Not sure how to feel about him likely missing from the game on Thursday, would be nice to have the bolts have a 5 min major PP for Kuch to bolster his numbers.

Maybe.... but could you imagine if we played you in a 7 game series... Devils players would be playing timid...
Anyone have the clip of Jack Hughes turning over the puck when he saw Rempe coming for him.
Kid brings energy... huge for the playoffs.

Does need to keep his elbow down.... but that could be learned.
He’d play four minutes and they’d get max one shift against each other where it’s a thousand times more likely he skates around him and scores lol

Everyone would want this player on their team making these hits.

I'm sorry to Siegenthaler that he got injured.

I also want Rempe to keep playing like this, and maybe just don't do something stupid in the playoffs where it could lose us a game.

Rempe is a feared player in this league, and for a rookie sixth round pick you have to credit the guy. All this hate he's getting is jealousy.

It sounds crude, but every team wishes they had a player they could pay to consistently hit players in a dirty fashion. Matt Cooke played over 1000 games in the NHL. There are very few players that come around in the current game who play like this. It's a rare player to find.
I hope you keep singing this tune when someone runs Panarin or Fox and they're out for your playoff run.

I said this last night, but if a kid is going to behave like this, especially taunting while getting escorted off the ice (read: hiding behind the refs) it's going to be open season on the Rangers star players from here on out. It's stupid, and I don't necessarily want to see someone injured from a clean hit (or dirty hit, for that matter) but players are going to take things into their own hands if the 'code' isn't maintained.

But until he learns he would be a massive liability if he pulls that off against other teams. Tampa or some higher functioning team would get 2 goals during that major and be done with it. Game over series swayed.

When an enforcer becomes a bigger threat by himself than the protection he's supposed to provide his teammates, targets shift, and the enforcer endangers his teammates. It's getting to that point very quickly. Players are going to feel justified taking cheap shots at any Ranger because of Rempe.

For me the question re 'intentional' is beside the point. He was missing the hit, and the arms came up *before* contact. Malicious or merely negligent? idgaf.

garbage behavior by rempe. acting so tough waving after a dirty hit

I thought HFboards liked when rookies showed up their opposition and disrespected them?

I don’t see much difference in waving while getting taken off the ice as I do a slap shot from the crease into an empty net

They’re both disrespectful, bullshit things to do

If you go for a big hit and the primary points of contact are leg on leg and elbow to head...that's not good. Also a clean hitter would tuck their arm in, not chicken wing so they can get contact with their elbow. If you are missing a hit, don't extend to take their legs or head out, that's dirty and deliberate. Anyone saying it's a happy accident he got his elbow that high doesn't know how to hit in hockey.

Watch the slow motion, he has the elbow tucked at first, notices he's missing on the hit then extends it at the end. That's on purpose, he wanted to get a piece.

It's a bad hit. He's going to get suspended. I'd guess somewhere between 3 and 5. Sucks but he's going to have to clean that up. He doesn't need to do the extras. His size and skating ability and speed he's going to run over people naturally. But he's raw and he needs to learn some shit still. His balance will improve and he's going to get heavier and he's going to get into fights. He's 21 and he could be the NHL for a bunch of years.

People point out the 54 penalty minutes and his only 56 minutes of ice time. Well he's also been on 4th line ice time and in 10 games the Rangers have scored 5 goals in those 56 minutes. He has a goal and an assist and came about as close to scoring another one in the St. Louis game as you can get. That would have been 6. 2 against. When he goes to the net he sets up a huge screen like happened with Gustafsson's goal last night. That's the third time that's happened. He's also had 31 hits and is 3 and 3 on face-offs and has 8 shots on goal in those 56 minutes of ice time. So I would say to posters here not to fool yourselves that there's nothing there. He's been a lot more effective than what most people think.

The hit was shit and stupid given the situation. Giving a shit team a 5 min PP when they're dead in the water and just looking to get through the season was inexcusable. Good thing for the Rangers that the Devils suck enough ass that they did nothing with the PP.

People calling for 5 or more are going to be very disappointed. This will get him 3 games max.

Probably, they'll likely have shut down several guys by then and certainly won't need to be worrying about points.

They're going to "send a message" and it's going to be stupid.

No one on your team outside of the clown you gave up assets for and plays 3 mintues a game is capable of sending a message.

Devils aren't equipped to do such things. Get ready for your GM to do some reallllly stupid shit this summer to address that.

Signed,

Someone who roots for a team that has a GM who did really stupid shit to address the same thing.

Even then I don't think its a battle that they want to get into. Not when their top 2 centers have bodies that are basically made out of egg crates.

I mean, they have MacD and Nolan Foote (who they just activated/called up) who provide little else besides being a big body on skates like Rempe. You don't need a ton of bodies to make a statement in that last game in April.

Long term, there's definitely a cultural issue that needs addressing in that Devils lockerroom - no doubt about that. Team is way too soft and I expect Fitz to address it in some fashion. But if the Devils want to go hunting in that game on April I think they certainly can. Don't envy the refs trying to manage that one.

Big fan of the kid but tonight is embarrassing.

For starters, I know he's answered every challenge but he needs to fight MacDermid in response to the hit against New Jersey last game. That's the code and "made men" like Deslauriers and Reaves don't have to give him the opportunity to make a name for himself: he's far too green to be acting like Ryan Reaves with the "only fight on my terms" bullshit.

But okay: he's only going to do it on his terms. I'll accept it while not being a fan of it, but waiving goodbye to the guy you've run from all night when you know you won't have to answer for it is clown show time and a total embarrassment.
No, he didn't. NJD came into that game with 1 plan and when it didn't happen they didn't know what to do. From his first shift they wanted him to answer. He actually did the smart thing there. However, this hit was not the smart thing.

Hell baby
I mean I'm sure people will post clips of elbows to the head that got nothing but that looks like 3-4 games minimum. He knew exactly what he was doing. No "he missed the hit" no "he's bigger and taller, what's he supposed to do?"

He lifted the elbow into the hit and targeted the jaw.
This x 1000

There is no legitimate defense for the hit. I had a lot of respect for Rempe before last night, I appreciated his first month in the league. He’s a lot of fun. This was just trash behavior, very Raffian

uh... one act is a meaningless gesture and the other is essentially making light of the fact that he injured someone with a dirty hit.

The two are.. not at all the same.

Yah, but if a 5 foot 1 guy lifts his elbow the same amount, it doesn't hit Siegenthaler in the jaw, so Rempe is simply getting penalized for being too tall.

The NHL has an interest in limiting traumatic brain injuries. Of course, stupidity also has other causes.

Edit: If this is satire, color me stupid.
Edit 2: Yeah, you got me. Good work.

Should be a minimum 5 gamer, but I fully expect the league to efff this up.

Players with reputations of being tough/hard to play against with years of service and almost no disciplinary record, get the benefit of doubt still get 3 games. This clown has been nothing short of reckless in his 10 game career.
