Matthew Rempe elbowing on Jonas Siegenthaler (suspended 4 games)

Devils really need to have some type of response when these teams meet again on April 3rd.

Rempe has taken out two of their players (possibly for the rest of the season) with dirty hits. Devils are already out of the playoff picture as is and will have nothing to play for in the standings with that game.

It's not new, and it's not pointless given how gameplay is governed, and enforcement. If you have the roster that you can shelter a player who can go out and help you win a war of attrition against another team in a playoffs series, that's an advantage. People are saying 'not smart' because taking major penalties is where it crosses the line from being a strategic positive to a negative.
 
This isn't specific to Rangers fans at all (I have no problem whatsoever with the NYR or their fanbase) but on this site and in general you always have morons that would defend their team's player even if he literally disemboweled a live human baby at center ice.

There is no defending this hit and I don't really see anyone doing so. He'll sit, he'll deserve it, and if he repeats hits like this he'll be out of the league very quickly even though he has positive qualities that can really help his team.

MacDermid backed everything I said in his post game comments. The Code has given this kid the spotlight and then he broke it tonight. Weak.

Have to think that building a rivalry was the intention behind giving them all those lottery wins. Still, don't think they'll come close to Avs/Wings level. Not in this day and age.

The funniest part is that you think I'm a Devils fan. Shows pretty much that you have no argument about the behavior of your franchise and players, you're just desperate to whatabout to something else.

When did I say that?

Rempe deserves a suspension.

But let's not act like he is the first or the last player to gain this reputation.

The league is very tolerable of these players.

Nick Cousins might only have one point of contact unless you count his email but what we need is a Darius Kasparitis reincarnation in the league with his wonderful submarine hits.

Every fanbase errs on the side of defending their players. Many Rangers fans defend Jacob Trouba too much in my opinion, but honestly if Trouba was on another team that fanbase would probably defend him too in the exact same way.

The difference with this hit is that there literally is no defending it for a variety of reasons.
 
I thought he was a good story...but now he looks like an idiot out there.

They need to teach kids lessons.
 
The thread is not full of Ranger fans defending him. I saw a couple of idiots. Most people say suspend him for a bad play. There are people defending his skill level. Those are different things. I can't speak for twitter. There are Devils fans saying the Devils should end Panarin's season in the next game. Also pretty dumb. Small part of the fan base. They don't speak for most.

Perhaps this is a lesson in not acting like one fanbase is more or less "good" than another.

You ever met anybody that's just really stupid? Not saying this to be facetious, but honestly asking. You ever just sit down and talk to somebody who's dumb as a box of rocks? He ain't gonna be reflecting on this in a quiet moment.

Rempe is a feared player in this league, and for a rookie sixth round pick you have to credit the guy. All this hate he's getting is jealousy.

It sounds crude, but every team wishes they had a player they could pay to consistently hit players in a dirty fashion. Matt Cooke played over 1000 games in the NHL. There are very few players that come around in the current game who play like this. It's a rare player to find.

There's a reason that meatheads like Rempe that specialize in putting your team on the penalty kill are dying out at the NHL level.

I hear you. But he's 21. He's in a league with guys much older and wiser and I'm sure he's been told by plenty of folks he needs to do this sort of stuff to carve out his role. At some point some adult will have to take some time and explain how to conduct himself and why. He can hit and fight guys without going over the line if he so chooses. Other guys have done it and so will he if he wants to stay in the NHL. I'm sure a number of morons have figured it out with some time and experience.

I think you fail to see the irony that you’re trying to brag by suggesting Ranger fans, for the most part, are objective and non-biased, when there is a mountain of evidence suggesting otherwise. So perhaps, you are also not exactly objective and non-biased.
