Somebody is going to seriously hurt this guy

This is, I think, a key point in all of this. Teams have to protect their stars, and Rempe is now declining fights. How do you protect your stars if you can't get this guy in the box with a fight?

The league needs to step in here before someone else gets seriously injured on the ice for this f***ing farce.

MacDermid backed everything I said in his post game comments. The Code has given this kid the spotlight and then he broke it tonight. Weak.
I disagree. McDermid went into that game with one focus. Respect? There was no respect even on his part as he slams the door pissed he didn't get what he wanted. There was no need for Rempe to fight the first shift when NYR were kinda' buzzing. They were never in a position where he should have answered the bell and he played it perfectly, until his elbow hit. But at the point it didn't even matter.

That's the upshot of all this. It won't be NJ but some team is going to go after the good players on the Rangers. That's not good for the league. It's fine if the tough guys hit each other and punch each other but once the guys people actually want to see play get hurt on cheap shots the league will have a problem.

He didn’t fight anyone after he hit Bastian? If not, there’s reason for Mac to want to fight.

C'mon if the roles were reversed and MacDermid or another Devils player had injured a Rangers player for the rest of the season on a dirty hit in the prior game, you don't think that Rempe would be out there targeting that player and Rangers fans would be calling said player out if he refused to answer the bell?

This thread is full of Rangers fans defending him lmfao
Almost all Rangers fans want Rempe to get BETTER at the terror he's sowing especially among soft teams like the devils, not STOP doing it. Better means staying on the ice and in the lineup so he can :
1. have an opposition player chase him around from the opening whistle instead of having the opposition focused on trying to win the game;
2. have players like jack throw the puck away blindly rather than get hit; and
3. screen the goalie with impunity as the small and weak dmen stand around him helplessly.

Ironically, Siegenthaler went over to Rempe after the Bastian hit, gave him a couple nasty slashes and tried to stand up for his guy, but realized he was outclassed. Rempe dropped him with a couple punches

MacDermid vs Rempe is a lock, April 3rd
I expect the Rangers much superior coaching staff to tell Rempe to not engage and let MacDermid chase him around AGAIN and throw the devils completely off AGAIN. MacDermid could easily have been called for a penalty in that first shift from hitting Rempe from behind but Rempe just bounced up and kept forechecking- maybe next game the refs call it and the devils start the game with a penalty right away.

At this point Rempe is in the devils heads - why let that come to an end with an opening minute fight? The more MacDermid plays the weaker the devils chances of doing ANYTHING.

He needs to learn how to use his size effectively so he's not at risk of killing dudes. He has potential to be good but the antics after the hit, waving to the guy and taunting is just really poor thinking, if you can call it thinking at all. He needs to remember he is a monster, he is not a normal sized person. A big advantage if used correctly, but this kind of shit is way over the line and gutless.

Guys a clown but he's just doing what got him there in the 1st place.. Devils had 10 minutes of PP time from this guy over 2 games and did nothing with it. If they buried the Rangers on the 1st 5 min major this probably wouldn't be happening again.

He had to answer the bell from his last dirtbag hit. Maybe he’ll decline for this one too.

You would hope so, but the I just saw this replay of Rempe last night, unless he has a change of heart it's not happening.

You ever met anybody that's just really stupid? Not saying this to be facetious, but honestly asking. You ever just sit down and talk to somebody who's dumb as a box of rocks? He ain't gonna be reflecting on this in a quiet moment.

I hear you. But he's 21. He's in a league with guys much older and wiser and I'm sure he's been told by plenty of folks he needs to do this sort of stuff to carve out his role. At some point some adult will have to take some time and explain how to conduct himself and why. He can hit and fight guys without going over the line if he so chooses. Other guys have done it and so will he if he wants to stay in the NHL. I'm sure a number of morons have figured it out with some time and experience.

I’ll just add- Carcillo was a dangerous dirty dummy, and he’s seemingly changed his tune upon reflection. He now goes too far the other way sometimes, I’m not sure he’s ever acknowledged his own role in concussions- I still think he’s dumb, but he’s definitely also looking at things differently now.

So- I don’t follow Rempe closely enough to assume him dumb, I just know my friends and I were a lot different at that age. Much more short term thinking, driving faster and doing more reckless things. More impulsive. So, like- suspend him, but also adjust the culture accordingly. Too many people cheering this dude on when he is literally college aged. You know how much dumb shit college kids do that they kinda marvel at when they’re 40? That’s where he is, but we know shit has long term consequences now.

Yeah, clearly some 4D chess being played here by the Rangers coaching staff...

Have Rempe avoid fighting so that maybe the Devils will take a penalty going after him (they didn't) and then have Rempe go out there and injure a player with a dirty hit to give the Devils a 2nd 5 minute power play in as many games. Just like they drew it up! :dunce:

Continues these embarrassing antics, he's going to find himself quickly forced out of the league. He's a dirty player and intentionally out there trying to injure. Lacking some brains.

I don’t think you understand how the code and respect work.

I mean I'm sure people will post clips of elbows to the head that got nothing but that looks like 3-4 games minimum. He knew exactly what he was doing. No "he missed the hit" no "he's bigger and taller, what's he supposed to do?"

He lifted the elbow into the hit and targeted the jaw.
Exactly the part in bold and I seriously question why he is even in the NHL we don't need garbage like that at all.
