It was an elbow. He needs to stop it but also, this isn’t Nuremberg.
It was a bad elbow. In-person for the first offense usually doesn't happen, but I don't think a few games would be unfair.

Of course, in that scenario, there's going to be worse hits that got less like there always is but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

The past is the past when it comes to discipline; you can't keep going down the "but this other hit..." rabbit hole.

Everyone would want this player on their team making these hits.

I'm sorry to Siegenthaler that he got injured.

I also want Rempe to keep playing like this, and maybe just don't do something stupid in the playoffs where it could lose us a game.

Rempe is a feared player in this league, and for a rookie sixth round pick you have to credit the guy. All this hate he's getting is jealousy.

It sounds crude, but every team wishes they had a player they could pay to consistently hit players in a dirty fashion. Matt Cooke played over 1000 games in the NHL. There are very few players that come around in the current game who play like this. It's a rare player to find.

Come on now. Keeping gorillas on a leash is a tough comment to swallow from a Caps fan. LOL. It's surprising that it's easy for you to point fingers when you're so used to having a career goon on your team.
Wilson is a legit top 6 player Rempe will never become.

But that's beside the point. While Terrific Tommy didn't blossom into the top liner he was during the Cup run under Lavi's coaching, Laviolette knows how to utilize a player with a strong physical presence in the modern league. And it's not by having an oversized rat running around throwing elbows like an idiot.

Everyone would want this player on their team making these hits.
Yeah everyone dreams of their team getting match penalties.

i would not mind a few games just so Rempe learns not to do it again. But he’s also not a baby and it’s not the league’s job to teach him to keep his elbow down.
On the other hand, if it were Jeff Petry on Anaheim Ducks no one gives a shit. The long and the short of it is Rempe is a useful player and we want him causing chaos in front of the net. Not throwing idiot elbows and certainly not posing as he walks down the runway.

lmfao my team has that guy. The real one.

They wouldn't and don't want the volume of trash this guy is pushing, he's closer to a 41 game suspension than a 20 goal season at this point.

I asked you to explain the current position by asserting that another situation you were vehemently against as a group employs a lot of the same attitudes to validate it, and asked you to reconcile the two positions. I asked why the franchise who freaked the f*** out about something that "has no place in the sport" despite two willing combatants is worse than this bullshit chicken wing and your response was basically "fans be crazy, can't help that".

So again, if you're admitting that fans are flawed and you're ready to steer into that for right now I'd better never see you trying to take that moral high ground again in other suspension threads, unless what you're really admitting is that you're a willing hypocrite and nobody should take you seriously at all.

I can take a paragraph or two to explain myself, you don't seem to want to do that in response to any individual point I've asked of you. Not one genuine response to one genuine question, because I'm asking you why it doesn't bother you as a franchise so proud to call others' actions into question like they're moral authorities on how the NHL game should be played.
Yeah, my opinion has changed since the Wilson thing.

You're right, I was pretty upset about that at the time. You didn't care. Most of the board didn't care. The DoPS didn't care. The Rangers were laughed at.

Now I don't care.

I don't believe in moral high ground in this league anymore. The league is not going to protect you and nobody is going to feel bad for you. That's just the reality.

100%. Before today I had faith Laviolette would get Rempe channeled correctly. Based on how he smartly handed Wilson. That said, I still have faith. Rempe is gonna be fine.

Way to completely ignore the part of my post where I said you don't want him doing something stupid that loses you a playoff game.

I could also care less he took a match penalty today. The regular season is 82 games. It's a very long season. You bet on the fact that over the course of a full season a feared player like him does more good than bad.

And the bad he does at this point is just the stupid penalties. He's actually been a rather productive NHL'er so far, and if you try to neuter him too much you might take that away. We already have Erik Gustafsson who takes a stupid penalty per game. It's not the biggest deal if Rempe occasionally crosses the line.

It's weird how people desperately try to make this kid a terrible player.

If it were anybody else it would be like 10% "good for him" and 90% "I've never heard of that guy" which is fine. But no, he has to suck, and we have to make a big deal about it.

I don't know if people are just that ignorant to who he is and think he's a goon because he had a fight right away, or they just don't like the guy for whatever reason.

And it's not just because of dirty hits because people were weird about it right away.

And like, yeah, absolutely he needs to reign it in a bit. He's most effective when he's skating. That's really what gets the crowd going. I'm bored with watching him fight already and this obviously doesn't help the team.

I like when he goes out and makes something happen during the play because he almost always does and that's what he should build on.

The Bastian hit was a bit awkward and you could say "well, maybe..." This was a clear "you can't do that" and hopefully that'll be made clear.

He hasn't been running into every fight recently, so maybe somebody is in his ear and he's teachable.

Rempe's got to get better at making contact - elbow extended is always going to be a problem. But I want him to keep doing exactly what he's doing but even better. He had the devils thinking about him versus their hopium based PO chance and he screened the devils goalie perfectly for an easy floater goal for Gustafsson which ended up being the GW goal.

I'm not sure why Rangers are so high on this guy. Clowns like Rempe make it really easy to give opposing teams a reason to run your best players like Fox and Panarin.

You can pretty easily say the hype got to him

Was just a matter of time
He better tone that sh-t down or a hockey stick may "get to him" if you get my drift. (and I'm not referring to the Devils per say but in general against any other team that he pulls that crap)

Looking at it live, I doubt it's possible to reactively elbow like that. Most likely just a result of trying to deliver a normal hit that missed due to Siegenthaler braking and avoiding the hit, which then caused him to lose his balance. Pretty sure Rempe's just trying to hit him through the body and that this would have been just fine had Siegenthaler simply kept skating as expected.

How? Skate with a gun and shoot Rempe when he's skating at you?
You have to joust him with your stick.

Look at what you said again...

If it's not possible to react with the elbow, that makes it intentional. If he's not reacting to somebody doing something unexpected he's coming in with the elbow out already and hoping for the best.

Regardless he came in with his elbow pointed out, which you don't do when youre hitting someone. Theres no way to defend it. Even if he didnt intend to hit the head with his elbow, he is still the person responsible for putting it out there in the first place rather than keeping his arms tucked in.
