I like the kid, but I hope the expectations are realistic if he makes the club.

I get a sense that there’s a little bit of wishful thinking happening because if he somehow is able to slot in as a 2nd line center as a rookie, that completely changes the complexion of this forward group and, as a result, transforms the prospects of the 2023-24 team outlook.

How realistic is it that that happens?

I suppose there’s a lot of upside and little downside to giving him a 9 game look. He’s earned it.

He looks legit, but I’ve also thought Spooner and Knight were lights out picks in their pre season outings.

I really like this kid, and I wanna be right for once.

I don’t remember knight doing nearly as well and I liked him as a possible 3rd line sniper, ceiling was siding up with Seguin and popping 30 like he did with kadri in junior, but it never panned out as he was always a step behind the play either literally or figuratively, health off ice made things tougher.

Spooner if I recall did well at times but he always floated a bit, Poitras gets involved on every play from my couch

I don’t agree with loosegoose

I think Poitras will carry the bruins to the finals and score two game winning goals in game 7. The first was taken away by corrupt refs but then given back after video review using 4K drones, officially awarding him the two goals since there was no opposing go ahead goal anyways

Poitras will then proceed to carry the cup from Logan to causeway on his back like Jesus, rip off a mission impossible style mask, revealing himself to be Patrice Bergeron from 2011 that traveled through the quantum realm to right the wrongs of 2019-23

But is that good enough , no Hart trophy, no Conn Smythe...............:hit:

The only thing he'll gain in the OHL is muscle/stamina at this point. But maybe that would be a big thing for him to gain at this point.

2 shots in 4 games. 16 goals in the OHL, a league where Zach Senyshyn scored 46 in his D+1 season.

He can certainly learn to look for his shot more at that level and it’s going to be easier to work on it there rather than in Boston where he would have 42 million other concerns.

if the Bruins send him back I won’t freak out. It might be the smarter play for his development. If none of Beecher, Lorhei or Poitras make the roster, that would be lame.

Really? I never saw anything in Spooner that even comes close to this kid and I hardly remember Knight. The next time Ryan Spooner drives to the net like Poitras did last night will be his first. As always YMMV.

Might be a bit premature but an early kudos to the scouting department for finding this kid. I didn’t think he was anything special until I watched the Behind the B episode of the draft.

They were absolutely laser focused on landing Poitras—they weren’t even talking about anyone else. Seemed peculiar at the time (to have that much interest in one guy who was supposed to be taken later) but Poitras is tracking well.

We’ve clearly got a gap at C so let’s see if he can usurp it.

Also, I can’t stop calling him POY-tris in my head. Used to work for someone who pronounced their last name that way.

With health, training and teammate protection, I easily seeing him get a minimum of 15/30 for 45pts.(if playing with Pasta, maybe higher and move Coyle back to 3C)
his vision and hockey IQ are the closest thing to Oates or Barry Pederson that we have had for awhile. He's not them, but creating his own space to make the right play is a trait some supposed higher ceiling pick for a lot of team do not have. He also seems to be a Weeble, never taken completely out of a play. His ability to reorient what is going on against bigger players is surprising.

Give him the 9 games!!!

Do the Bruins also have a good time machine where he gains a year of conditioning and age while not being pounded on my NHLers?

Last night was a good look at what is in store for him, but he IMO along with Beecher
and Lohrei have earned starting with the team. I don't get why they would sweat
making a choice between Steen, Brown, McLaughlin, or Boqvist.

Give him the 9 games, at minimum, at this point. We've turned kids away for years. They put him in a position to succeed and forcefully take the spot in the lineup. I think he's done that and I don't know what else you can ask of him. Beecher, IMO, has done the same.

It royally sucks he can't go to Providence because I can't think of a more ideal place for him at the moment.

I’m really not concerned about poitras not shooting. He still scored a nasty goal. He has what it takes to score. He just likes being the set up man. He also is a puck hound with some hustle to his game. The play without the puck is what separates him imo. That’s why I think he is nhl ready. Even if he only plays 50 games and gets 25 points. The training facilities, coaching and training staff is superior in Boston than it is in Guelph.

I think this is well said. You can't just turn passers into shooters and vice versa. He's a Krejci type player as in he's going to look to set other guys up first but that doesn't mean he can't shoot and score when he wants to.

For sure they should work on his shot and try to add more weapons to his arsenal as he develops, but no need to try and change what's in his DNA.

But even Krejci was getting off three times as many shots as this, ya know?

edit: I totally get that he will always be pass first, and that is totally fine! And I'm not on the "he should go back" camp, just pointing out reasoning why it could allow him to develop into a more well rounded player.

Pretty much no one at his age is the complete package- learning to shoot more or take his chances seems to me to be something he can learn just as easily inthe NHL since the rest of game appears to be ready. But it’s the Bruins so I can easily seen them sending him back to the OHL.

Yeah for sure, and I think as he develops and guys start to cheat to the pass more often he will most definitely need to develop some selfishness and better shooting.

But as Dr Hook said above me I dont know that developing that shot against OHL level goalies is any more helpful than doing so at the NHL level, besides from the standpoint of gaining confidence.

But the rest of his game isn't actually ready. He is weak and undersized now. His line was really outplayed last night and centers are supposed to be driving possession. It will be easier for him to develop other parts of his game against his peers. Is that trade off worth it? I would keep him up with the big club. But, I don't think it's a 100% slam dunk, either.

I guess ready from a rookie standpoint in that he can play a regular shift in the league. I expect him to have to grow into the NHL in a few areas of his game. I do not think he is a slam dunk either and like you I would keep him on the club but won’t be surprised if he gets sent back to junior.
