Here is the issue, what do you do in the playoff? Poitras may be able to be an effective 3C in the regular season, but can he help your team win the Conference Finals against the Panthers as a center, or does the team want to roll Frederic in that slot? Does it make sense to go with a regular season lineup that you will just have to change in the playoffs?

If I am GM/Coach, if Poitras improves on last season, I still put him at C even for the playoffs. But reasonable minds can differ on that point, and if the B's do not intend to play him at C in the playoffs then they may has well training him up on the wing because they probably need his skill in the lineup.

If Poitras looks good/comfortable at center in the NHL I'd let him play there for the first 60 games. You can reconfigure your lineup for the playoffs after the deadline, which most teams have to do anyway.

Not to drag this too far off topic, but how often do deadline adds make the ultimate difference? I've always felt they tend to do more harm than good by messing with line and room chemistries that were working well enough to get a team to the POs already. That aside, I hope they give Potsy a run at 3C but equally I am fine if they slot him at 2RW to start with and see how it goes. I just want him on the roster and doing well as he is a needed player for the future.

Can't agree more. We need to have him ready to jump in at 2C - I hope he repeats his performance of last year but it seems foolish to assume Coyle will undoubtedly stay at that level.

Meant to post this in one of the GDT's recently but forgot.

He makes some very subtle, clever passes. I'm not going to go crazy and suggest he's the next Krejci just yet, but how he seems to understand/think the game without flash and excessive skating speed really reminds me of him.

While I agree, I don't think it's the end of the world if he starts on the wing a bit. Bergeron did the same thing, Seguin too.

I don’t think it’s an issue putting him on the wing. He will still see some centre duties. Bruins have been known to do this.

Based on the reports from camp hes off to a great start. If he can emerge as a legitimate threat this year in the top 6 that really rounds out the bruins roster pretty good up front. I think he flashed enough last year where that is on the table. Kind of reminds me of how barzal plays a bit. Really fast with the puck on his stick and it finds him

He has been the highlight of camp for me. Isn't he the same birth year as the Philly rookie we had to listen to how great he is for his age?

That goal he scored over that massive goalie was a superstar shot.

The top 2 spots are fine in Lindholm and Coyle, right? Maybe you don't think so, but it seems good to me. They also have a lot of depth as far as bottom 6 goes, too. For this season, anyway, Poitras can do a Bergy and start as a RW, but can slide over if the need is there. Maybe next season or the one after, Coyle drops back down to a 3C role as he gets older and Poitras then full times as a center in the top 6. Sounds fine on paper, anyway.

I think he stays at center and the 2nd and 3rd lines are not really any different. I mean that’s our hole isn’t it 2nd line winger.

Coyle works with anyone so it’s just a matter of who Poitras fits with. Poitras with Marchand and someone bigger could be Jones Geekie or Freddy is best case scenario to me and then Coyle back as 3C with whomever.

I think the bruins have no choice but to keep him on the roster. He really is one of their best offensive players. He probably belongs on the second line. Let’s hope the injury isn’t bad. They might use ltir to juggle the salary cap since swayman is about to use up the remaining cap space.

There will be some growing pains, and hopefully less injuries, but his ability to create stands out with our lack of offensive depth. Montgomery seems to put him in spots for that which is great. He's solid at protecting the puck, I hope he can learn a bit about leverage from Marchand to get even better.
Not gunna get too crazy with expectations but I think he'd be a great fit on RW with Marchand and Coyle. He def should be on PP2 as well. Although playing a full season as 3C would be huge for his development too.
