Knies isnt untouchable, hes just unlikely to be moved for a short term rental. Seems pretty clear Chicago asked for him and we turned it down, and that was a pretty enticing deal
Nobody is untouchable, but if you're trading Knies it better be for a productive player with term and not a Foligno.Knies isnt untouchable, hes just unlikely to be moved for a short term rental. Seems pretty clear Chicago asked for him and we turned it down, and that was a pretty enticing deal
I dont think any short term rental gets him if we passed on Hagel and MAF while dumping Mraz.Nobody is untouchable, but if you're trading Knies it better be for a productive player with term and not a Foligno.
I imagine he was upset because the GM talked. He wanted the Hawks GM to know that speaking about confidential talks is a no no.
That's all fine and dandy ..I imagine he was upset because the GM talked. He wanted the Hawks GM to know that speaking about confidential talks is a no no.
Was Toronto even in on Hagel? The only name I remember hearing from the Blackhawks was Fleury.I dont think any short term rental gets him if we passed on Hagel and MAF while dumping Mraz.
How do you not understand that Dubas was angry that the Kyle Davidson said to the Chicago media that they wanted Knies when talking to Toronto about trading Fleury to the Leafs. That's all fine and dandy ..
However this is a Matthew Knies thread and I'm failing to see how this impacts him negatively.
Since Toronto still owns his rights that means they like him and refused to trade him, and what would it matter if 10 teams leaked their interest in acquiring Knies in trade, as that from his perspective means he must be a good prospect if demand and interest is high and that is good thing not a bad thing.
It sucks about Robertson's injury and Amirov's cancer diagnoses. However, that's a great point because if both were on the team and playing right now, maybe it makes Knies more tradeable. Instead, he becomes more valuable from a prospect in the system.Robertson’s continued injury trouble and Amirov’s unfortunate and unfair medical diagnosis makes Knies even more untouchable than he already was. Leafs trade Knies and we’ll virtually have nothing in terms of potential scoring prospects in the system.
I feel some fans overrate him. At the end of the day he is pacing for a ppg on a team with Logan Cooley and another first round pick named Snuggerud
his production from last year to this year hasn’t gotten any better, even though his linemates have(assuming he plays with the two mentioned above). I get he is physical and a big guy, but he should be producing better than that with his role
If we could deal him for a top 6 winger with 3 or more years, I’d consider doing it because firstly, I don’t see this guy being as good as some project and second, he probably takes 2-3 years before actually peaking

REJECTED Leafs & Blackhawks Trade For Marc-Andre Fleury + Brandon Hagel (Petr Mrazek, Matthew Knies)
Let's go over Darren Dreger's Twitter thread from yesterday, highlighting how the the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks had discussed a trade involving Marc-Andre Fleury, Brandon Hagel, Petr Mrazek, prospect Matthew Knies, and draft picks. Ultimately, the trade did not end up getting done.

I remember when he made the trade for Jake Muzzin, he still held onto Sandin and Liljegren who were considered their best prospects at that time.Media always uses the biggest name Leafs prospect for clicks. It would have to be an absolutely incredible trade for the Leafs to be willing to move Knies before we get a look at him in the NHL. He’s got a very compelling set of tools, and people always seem to forget that power forwards take a bit longer to develop. Frankly, we shouldn’t move him before he’s 24.
Dubas moves prospects for good players, but he’s held our best prospects.

It doesn’t impact Knies at allThat's all fine and dandy ..

The only way Knies could be upset/offended is if it was the Leafs shopping him and that news got leaked because then it shows him his current team is willing to trade him away in the right deal.
I seriously worry about his posts. He just proved himself 100 %wrong and he can't understand it.And key phrase at.the bottom "Toronto declined based on the futures involved"
Yes, but I cannot remember which insider mentioned it. Possibly CJ.Was Toronto even in on Hagel? The only name I remember hearing from the Blackhawks was Fleury.

When have you seen a GM no matter the team publicly say we wanted this player and that trade never happened.
Dreger, as usual.Yes, but I cannot remember which insider mentioned it. Possibly CJ.
When the hell is he going to join the team? When is he eligible?
Knies specifically said he returned to college for one last shot at winning an NCAA title and the Leafs have no concern about his future with them.he may reject us again who knows
Fair enough, I just expect more from him considering the highlights I’ve watched of him and the situation he is inWorth noting his goal scoring (which is his main strength offensively) has taken a step forward. He's scoring at a .54 per game rate, last season he was at a .45 rate
Yeah I suppose it's possible, but looking at a "hilight" that got posted to Twitter very recently, a hilight of a practically end to end rush that he put in the net, great rush and finish btw. Unless everyone on the ice is bigger than average, Knies did not stand out as being a bigger guy than the rest. Whereas the Matthews who is also listed at 6'3" but actually looks it compared to the opponents, as did McMann the other night listed at 6'2"
I'm not saying that there is no way he's that big, I'm just saying that for a guy that big he doesn't really look it.
Reports were we asked on him but didnt want to pay the price TB did.Was Toronto even in on Hagel? The only name I remember hearing from the Blackhawks was Fleury.
I think you're gonna be surprised how garbage Kerfoot and Engvall look next to Knies from game 1 onward.I think people are going to be real disappointed, this kid won't come in and make any impact. Maybe by year 3.
