Matthew Knies, do not trade this kid.

So we are to completely ignore the IQ, instincts, and skill-set displayed here by Knies because of the talent level of the opponents?

Classic glass half-full vs half-empty scenario.

The only way to answer it is to see what he turns into, which won't happen next week, next month, or next year, and I would much rather that it happens for us than for some other team that he's traded to.
It has nothing to do with da player in question .. my point was da highlight provided does not show elite skill .. it shows a kid skating past 3 pretty poor players .. when I watched him against other elite skilled players in world junior he looked pretty slow and unable to separate himself .. he lacks wheels

Agree. looks like a solid middle-six guy on an affordable contract who plays a well-rounded game.

Having said that...what would HFBoards be without bonkers trade proposals lol?

To VAN:
- Matt Knies
- 2023 1st Round Pick
- condition 2024 2nd Round Pick (turns to a 1st if the Leafs make the ECF)
- Alex Steeves
- Aston-Reese and Jordie Benn (to balance the cap)

To TOR:
- Schenn
- Kuzmenko

Do you do it?
I think it's a brutal and unnecessary overpay that Vancouver would take without blinking.

Lets trade Knies for swift 5'10" 180 player like were loaded with

If Knies is traded, it'll certainly only be because he, or is agent, let Dubas know that he did not intend to sign an ELC with our Leafs.

JMHO.

We don't need that type of winger .. we need a big strong fast 3C who can handle a tough playoff game to make it hard for Stammer and Marchand to play against .. JT can handle LW on boards in playoffs with Matty and Willy down da pipes

You don't have to be super fast to be good. To play a heavy heavy game you need to be physically large strong and have lots of heart. These are the playoff warriors we have lacked for a long time. 7/7 out in playoffs tells you the team is not built or was not built succeed in the playoffs. Do you need 8/8 to prove that?
There is NO hard dimension on D right now meaning teams will win battles in front of our net and it will cost us. Same goes for the forward group crash and bang is needed to wear down the D...

Been a fan of this kid since he was drafted. I read on Gopher's site he is now 6'3" 222lb up 12 from draft year. Big physical forward with good hands no way should he be traded for a water bug
Yeah I suppose it's possible, but looking at a "hilight" that got posted to Twitter very recently, a hilight of a practically end to end rush that he put in the net, great rush and finish btw. Unless everyone on the ice is bigger than average, Knies did not stand out as being a bigger guy than the rest. Whereas the Matthews who is also listed at 6'3" but actually looks it compared to the opponents, as did McMann the other night listed at 6'2"

I'm not saying that there is no way he's that big, I'm just saying that for a guy that big he doesn't really look it.

Killorn is not a burner and he's exactly what this team is lacking.

I'll pile on with the others and say I don't think that bolded part is correct.

Dubas was upset Hawks GM disclosed Knies name in trade talks, but if it was an ask on Hawks part why would that up set Dubas by simply saying "NO" and backing out of MA Fleury talks?

GM's ask for players all the time, but that should get Dubas upset, particularly ones he isn't willing to deal.. If that news leaked out of others interest and ask that is not on Dubas.

I imagine he was upset because the GM talked. He wanted the Hawks GM to know that speaking about confidential talks is a no no.

Because trade discussions are private interactions, and it's unprofessional to leak them to the media. Knies' name being blown up in the media and being associated to trade talks can make a prospect feel unappreciated or unwelcome, even if it's actually just declining to trade him to somewhere else that wanted him. That's not how we want Knies feeling.

Normally I would be shocked that this would actually have to be explained to someone, but.....

What the Chicago GM did is very close to tampering.

He's been pigeonholed as the common denominator for everything bad that happens on the ice. Nobody is sure how it started, my guess is that an error that somebody made in the past was compounded by Holl making the wrong read, which ended up in the Leafs net. A goal that gave the opponent a late lead that turned into a loss. The broadcast director had camera 3 take a long lingering look at Holl head down in shame, while anger and disgust played all over his face. During that shot O'Neil or Craig Simpleton prattled on about, missed opportunities, poor positioning or poor coaching, pining it on Holl

Since that day it's just gotten worse for Holl with disparaging remark building on the last disparaging remark, until nothing else could ever be true about the player.

In Hollywood when this stuff happens to somebody and suddenly the knives come out and a career is suddenly in jeopardy, the person affected hires a great publicist, who's job it is to rehabilitate the person's image. So a few photos of the person feeding the whales, petting the lions on the savanna or some such, and boom Nick Cage gets his career back.

This is why Holl needs a really good publicist because his underlying numbers which cumulatively show him to be a highly competent defender, yet nobody seems to want to believe them because they belong to Justin Holl. A recent article that breaks down these numbers recently appeared on Sportsnet written by Justin Bourne

That all said and exhaustively written by me on my goddam phone is not saying Holl is perfect, nor an allstar, but what he isn't is the bumbling fool some folks seem to want to make him out be.

I hope this has provided you with some clarity.

This is exactly why people like Dreger etal are full of kakapoopoo

Youre absolutely correct that GMs don't call the media to get a feel for the market. Nor does some intern that works in the GMs office call the media and put her or his career in jeopardy because some schnook "insider" offers him a C note for info.

When the hell is he going to join the team? When is he eligible?

It was clearly obvious from Dubas side that Knies was a non starter in whatever trade talks they had about Fleury and Davidson should not have said name in public to the media.
I doubt he wants to trade him but I also doubt it's a non starter.

Stop right there! That's the answer!!

You're making exhaustive claims in the wrong thread!

Dubas is not responsible for the two bolded players not being dealt for assets.

If that is case, Dubas gets a pass but Shanny was here and should have chose to trade.

The OwnRental is a stupid policy, it should be on a case by case player. If it's Mark Messier that you are OwnRental, that makes sense, if its Dough Gilmor, yeah OwnRental that guy but JVR? Andersen? Bozak? Gardiner? none of them are elite difference makers, they are all good to very good players at the time, what they brought in a trade would outweigh what they brought for their playoff run.

This is called hindsight.

No one knew how it would play out, other than their chances were 1 in 30, so by that logic there should have been 29 teams selling off.

You make the playoffs and anything can happen. LA won from the #8 seed, and didn't look much like a contender heading into the playoffs.

He has been eligible since he was drafted. He wants to win a National Championship with the Gophers. So early April is when we hope to see him in Toronto.
