he had a bad game and that hit deserves a suspension but holy shit him not fighting MacDermid was f***ing hilarious lmaooooooo. the one reason he's here and can't even play. loser.

MacDermid would've done that with or without Rempe if he really wanted to. We shouldn't concern ourselves with a non-NHL bum who's literally only in the league to settle scores and can do nothing else.

Rempe was completely wrong. Bad look. Deserves punishment.
Devils fans want our stars injured next game for it. Also bad look.

No winners here. Except the Rangers. We won the deserve to win o'meter. Big win there.

I don't think the Devils players themselves want to get into a knife fight. This iteration of them would probably just end up stabbing themselves.

Whether or not this season ends up throwing them in a situation where they do stupid things for grit and tuffness next year ala Goodrow and Reaves is a different story.

He elbowed the guy. It was a penalty. Don’t have to beat ourselves up about it though. 1987 laughs at that.
This….
If you’re in the enforcer role or even a big hitter such as Trouba, you’re going to be predatory. That’s just a fact. You’re always looking to set the tone and clean someone’s clock. Put them Thru the boards……
Injuries are going to be a part of that one way or another.
It didn’t help that sig pulled back to stop and Rempe is 6’8.
He stuck his arm out to try to make contact and unfortunately his elbow went into sigs head.
Is it a pen? Yes. Is it unfortunate? Yes. Do I want the opposing player injured? No, am I surprised stuff like this happens? No

Messiers elbows were legendary in the NHL, that’s why a lot of guys wouldn’t take runs at him anymore along the boards, they got a mouth full of elbow pad.

Long time fans realize just how different/ less physical and crazy this sport has changed over the last 15-20 years.

Dev fans loved stevens but hate Rempe. Rightfully so cause of rivalry, but kinda hypocritical.

On a side note, I’m sure Rempe/McD are going to have a tilt soon, that’s just a forgone conclusion. Personally, I didn’t like the wave… that’s being a bit of a punk.
All said and done he prob gets 2-3 games max

Almost none.

If you don't think that the league is going to be tuned into the next game and basically tell both teams to watch their shit then you're nuts. The leash some of these guys are going to get is going to be awfully short.

Rempe will have to fight him the next go around though. He's kind of lost his license to ignore MacDermid.

It’s kinda of a natural reaction from fans. We all wanted subban to get his clock cleaned after Blais and the slew foot.

I don’t really think dev fans or their management realize rangers physicality should be here to stay and it’s only going to get worse for them in that dept. They moved guys like wood/zetterlund/sharengovich etc
While not fighters/enforcers that was a lot of their bite/identity.

We already have Rempe/edstrom/trouba/schneider/laf/tro/lindgren even Kakko that all play physical/finish checks etc

Berard/sykora/Othmann are coming…..
Even chlemar/BMB/Laba are not shrinking violets

Devs really need guys like marchment/wilson/verheagie etc
They don’t have those identity players in their pipeline. At least not enough talented ones

Doesnt help that guys like McLeod and Foote who can play that game might end up in jail.

I disagree. The hit on Bastian, that was a hard hockey play that should still be possible in today's game. If there's some head contact, that's tough luck and I don't think Rempe should be penalized just because he's big.
A flying elbow like last night's from Rempe is just an attempt to injure the opposing player and has no place in the game. Doesn't matter if they were common in the past or not.

Love the guy but worried about him in the postseason unless he learns how to play on the edge without taking penalties. I’m afraid with all the excitement and nerves he’s gonna cost them a tight playoff game by going overboard for a big hit. He’s got a reputation now, not going to get the benefit of the doubt anymore.

Last night is just a raw kid making a mistake he would've made in the AHL. I love him, love the energy he's brought the team and the league, I'm just not sure you can play him in the playoffs right now.

He's gonna learn from this suspension and possible demotion and it's for the better. Last thing we need is him getting a reputation amongst the refs and every hard hit is a penalty.

Best thing is, this kid is an actual player. At 21. Good days are ahead for him

I think what many people are missing here, is that Rempe was clearly told by staff/mgmt to not fight MacDermind. He would have 100% fought him if he was allowed to. He knows the only reason he is here is to play on the edge and he has done that to a T so far. He had the entire Devils team in a frenzy last night and had MacDermid running around like a clown. The chicken wing was BS and wrong, and I think he is aware of that. He isn't a malicious player he just plays on the edge.

Agree with bastan hit. But the premise/hunting is the same.
I played same in lacrosse/football/hockey etc…
You see a guy looking down/or over his shoulder etc your looking to put your shoulder down and run absolutely right thru the guy….
That’s how physical players are taught. You don’t want to injure them but you’re always looking for solid contact.

With bastan, being smaller and crouching down and Rempe being 6’8 it didn’t help the situation either.
But as soon as he hopped over the boards and saw the puck heading for bastan s stick he was lining him up to crush him….
That’s what I mean by predatory.
Sometimes guys move/ turn/go to stop etc and you miss and you’re throwing arms etc just to try and make some contact… that’s where bad things like sig or knee on knee injuries etc occur

Rempe needs to not leave his feet, especially by the boards, and keep his elbows in and lead with shoulder every time…
Injuries will still happen, that’s the nature of sport violence…
Trouba is textbook and delivering the shoulder

Second time he crossed the line, thank God it was Devils again who suck and couldn't capitalize. But you've got to wonder how the coaching staff feels about his inability to not cross the line. Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice etc... Literally like two weeks between the illegal hits.

Stuff like this can cost you playoff matches. Rempe needs to understand that if he wants to stay with the team it's not only about being the boogeyman. You're a 4th liner, your main job is not to be a negative for your team. If you create offence, nice. If you create good forecheck, nice. If you are physical, nice. But don't make stupid mistakes with the puck, have bad defensive reads or take stupid penalties.

It's basically him and Edström fighting for that last 4th line winger role. Going to be interesting how Edström plays now, and what happens after Rempe has served his suspension (because he's going to get one no doubt).

Another dirty elbow last night. His size doesn't help much in that regard. Needs to work on it.

Dirtiness will lead to more dirtiness. Be careful, but is there a clean monster?

Statistically the time from 2004 up until now, has been historically the least brutal and dirty era of NHL hockey (starting after WWII). I'm curious if Rempe actually will have such a big impact, that we enter a new era of rougher hockey. Not sure I like it.

Rempe is raw as it gets. The organization and coaching staff know they have to work with him. Many young players who play with this physicality need to "find the line" early in their careers. They need to use these last 18 games to get him to the point where you're not worried about him taking a major in a playoff game. If they can't trust he wont play unless a situation calls for him to be put in. Im hoping Edstrom gets recalled if (when?) the suspension is announced.

"Repeat offender" is a guy who has been suspended in the past 18 months.
I can see him become a repeat offender.

I like the kid, but after the elbow, he should have fought MacDermid.

We just went up 2-0 - a lot due to Rempe - and then it just deflated the moment. I hope the Devil player is okay, I definitely think he’s concussed.

To not fight after that? Wasn’t a good look for the kid.
