This is a fantastic interview and well articulated as well. Kudos to Olivier who has really developed himself into a good 4th line player

Looked good again last night but if it comes down to Rempe or Edstrom in the playoffs there is no doubt who Lavy is gonna pick. I know Rempe is the popular one but Edstrom is much more composed especially in the d and neutral zone. Especially with positioning. Still tho wanna see as much as possible of Rempe for the rest of the regular season and especially up until the TDL.

You can see the potential with Rempe for sure. I said it somewhere, maybe in this thread, maybe another, but Rempe is ahead of schedule and I think the team would feel more comfortable sending him back down to finish his AHL season and then be the 13th forward who they don't need to keep on the roster until the playoffs role around.

I think Rempe goes down after the deadline and comes back a Black Ace that youre very happy using as nuclear deterrent in the playoffs. And there's no doubt he is a problem in front of the opponents net.

He needs to stop fighting every time someone asks.

Let it be a thing where you do it because you have to, not just because it seems like a fun thing to do.

When he hits people, goes to the paint and works the walls he can actually be a pain in the ass to deal with and those things actually help a team win games.

the coach should not have allowed him to do a staged fight for the 2nd day in a row, end of story.

btw, can he play C at all? i noticed him taking faceoffs. if we trade for a forward, I would love to see a 4th line with him, Vesey and Edstrom in the playoffs, with Goodrow in the press box.

Someone who follows the WHL more closely can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he primarily played C for Seattle. He had a recent interview where he was talking about the transition to wing. I think he's very comfortable taking draws for that reason.

I definitely don't see him as a C at the pro level. At least not yet. By playing him at wing and sending him in as the F1 on the forecheck, you create a huge problem with his size, skating, and willingness to lay the body. Much of that gets neutered if you play him at C.

I'm hearing on the wire that the city of Columbus is bestowing the title of Sir Mathieu Olivier and giving him the keys to the city for standing up to the one they call Rempe.

He can which is great!

"But that only works when Rempe isn’t tossed out of the face-off circle.

“I get kicked out a lot because I’m so big and I’m over the dot and they think that I’m cheating. But I really can’t set myself up in a way that’s not cheating because I’m too big and I can’t get out of the way. But most of the times, the linesmen are good guys and don’t kick me out.”

Rempe won 46% of face-offs when he did stay in. While hardly elite — a 55% rate is considered the sign of a good face-off man — it wasn’t bad for a first-year WHL performer literally still growing into his big man role."

Seattle Times when with the Thunderbirds.. Am I allowed to put links here?

Props to Oliver. Stand up guy. Respects the other guys that are also doing the job for their respective teams.

Props to Rempe as well. First, he took a few real good ones in that tilt, and he also fired back. He def has a solid chin. Truth is, that one could have went either way, and this is indicitve of his fighting style. He's wide open, and he is going to trade punches. Hes not going to hug you, afraid to take a punch and fire back noogies like Donald Brashear. He's not going to get technical, tie up his opponent and tire them out like a Darren Langdon or Marty McSorley. His closest comparable i think is Stu Grimson. He's going to use his range, and height and fire away. Very exciting to see that in a young gunslinger. In addition, not too many players i can remember who grew up playing in a non-fighting environment that transitioned into that and had the success that he has. They play again on Wednesday. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if there is a Round 2. Some gunslingers would duck the opposition. I don't think Rempe will ever duck anyone.

Agree that he can say no from time to time. He will learn that. He is also the young gun that everyone is going to gun for that still plays that role.

Upcoming schedule has a lot of teams with these types of players. If Rempe stays past the deadline, and doesn't get demoted or scratched he is going to be very busy.

Columbus- Oliver rematch maybe
Leafs- Ryan Reaves <-- Reaves probably has this circled on the lockerroom calendar
Panthers- Gadjovich (Very active fighter)
Blues- No real enforcer there, but gamers like Schenn
Devils- Bastian i would assume will look for some revenge. Smith may step up like he did with Wilson
Canes- Lemieux wold like dress for this one
Lightning- Maybe Essymont
Penguins - Take the night off
Isles - Martin but i dont think there will be a rematch unless the game gets chippy.
Jets- Lowry likes to step up.
Bruins- Frederick loves to fight NY Rangers
Panthers- Gadjovich again
Flyers - Deslauriers already has a rematch circled on this calendar.
Avs- MacDermit would likely get the call up.
Yotes- Obrien
Pens- Take the night off again
Devs-
Wings- Take the night off
Habs- Wifi is probably waiting for this one. Maybe Pazzetta as well.
Isles-
Flyers
Senators- Last game of the season. I would imagine they call up MacEwen.

The Grimson comp is a good one. I think he might’ve been caught up in putting on a show. He’s fought similar sized guys to Olivier in the A and the scraps were more defensive.

It also took Grimson time to fill out into the killer he became

Are we trying to see how fast we can get this kid knocked out of the league with concussions as fast as possible? Broken hand? Orbital bone?

He should be fighting when it matters, it mattered when he first stepped into the league, now he's got 5 games and everyone knows him. If he fights 15 times in the next 20 games he is an idiot and nobody should be hoping for that.

I also posted that he can say no from time to time and i think he should say no at times. So if the "we" is geared towards me, no i don't want to see anyone get hurt. However...This is the his role. Concussions, busted bones, are the occupational hazard that comes with the territory.

Im pointing out upcoming schedule which has some clubs with guys that will certainly looking for a dance. Two of which are Enforcers who left here maybe not on the best of terms. Reaves and Lemieux. There some rival games there with a guy who is going to want a rematch in Deslauriers. And perhaps Rempe himself also wants a rematch in the net Columbus game.

Bastian got his ass kicked by DeAngelo. He isn't going with Rempe unless he wants to land on IR again.

But fighting just for the sake of having one is dumb. Thats what Rempe needs to stop doing.

Does Reavo even play?

This serves no purpose in winning hockey games. He should be fighting when necessary to protect teammates. That's it.

Rempe lost that fight pretty much when it started by making a bad grab. If you notice he grabs Olivier's jersey above the shoulder pad and because of that he had no control over Olivier's punching hand and I'm pretty sure Olivier knew right away he had this advantage and just kept swinging away.....kind of like a boxer when he sees his opponent is on the ropes he just went in for the kill. Matthew still got in some really good shots....Olivier was pretty marked up too and it says something for Rempe's punching power in a fight he was pretty much on his heels the whole time.

Exactly. He’s cut everyone he’s fought so far. I’ve mentioned he’ll eat some to land his. The initial grab put him in a bad spot.

Olivier was mashed by Lucic last year. He gave up after he was hurt and Lucic stopped. Rempe can learn from that

Now that we know (according to Olivier) that it was Rempe who challenged him during the game and not vice-versa, I will be really disappointed if the leadership group (namely Trouba, Goodrow and Peca/Laviolette) doesn't take him aside and tell him, while the enthusiasm is appreciated, the fighting just to fight stops here and now. Fight coming to the defense of a teammate (or yourself)? Yep. Fight to try and bring the team energy around when things look to be going sideways? Yep. Fighting on your first shift because you "feel like it" or even worse, the other guy does then No. Tell the other guy "On my time".

The Rangers didn't need that fight at the beginning of the game. In fact, they looked fine and CBJ took it up a notch after the fight. If anything, the time for Rempe to search out a fight last night would have been after they went down 3-2 and where getting their shit kicked for an extended period in the 2nd.

There was definitely a correlation to the respective energies of the teams after the fight.

I agree and he had a really smart fighting style. Rempe should study Scott and Chara. Copy how they used their reach. Rempe is taking too many punches for his reach. If he keeps that left arm straight other guys will struggle to reach him.
