I feel like if you think the only reason you skate with your head up is to avoid contact, it’s pretty good evidence you didn’t play hockey.

Or you played very low level hockey.
this probably shouldn't be anything more than the call on the ice. the new angle makes the hit seem less violent. the contact with the head is mostly because of rempe's size. no significant injury on the play and bastion was feeling fine enough to fight trouba later in the game.

Oh, was Rempe only informed of his own size after the hit?

Here's an angle where you can see Rempe skating toward Bastian:

Opposite angle of what's in the OP:

1st one doesn't look good. Looks like pure head shot.

2nd one doesn't look that bad at all, actually. Looks like body and head all at same time.

Its a pure glide and just a big guy getting called for a penalty for, well, being big. Shouldnt have even been a minor

Of course not. Not just because you might get blown up, but because you can’t see anything. Yes Bastian has his head down to pick the puck off the boards, there are situations where you need to drop your head. That not a green light to blow a player up, It’s on the player making the hit to avoid significant contact with the head.
Serious question. What should rempe have done? He got low, glided, tucked elbow. Should he have amputated his legs to shrink? Should he have just done a drive by and said ahhh not worth even trying to hit him, im big. What should rempe have done

Nope it is. Rule 48. Under certain circumstances it’s allowed, but I don’t see this hit during that criteria.
Did you read that before you posted it? It is, except when it isn’t is a non-sensical response.

He has 12 points in 43 AHL games...

The Rangers aren't looking for him to put up big production numbers though. It's the same with Edstrom....who is a little older and a more schooled player but the point of their development isn't for them to be production players. Chipping in offense is what we're looking for and taking on bottom 6 roles.....the Rangers have guys that can carry the offense including younger players. Not everyone is going to be a scorer.

He's a kid. 21 years old. HIs skating has improved a lot since we drafted him. In Hartford he's been developing a game and the Rangers idea is for him to fill a role. He's 240 lbs or so right now. By the time he's 25 he might be 260. In the past several years the Rangers have had issues with teams that have heavy games. I look at Rempe and Edstrom as players who might change that.

Bump him off the puck, rather than driving through him. I get it Rempe’s game is to be physical but that’s a predatory hit and he needs to pick his spots better.

You should watch the replay. Bastians head is about 2 feet in front of his body. What youre proposing is skating past bastian and trying to hit him when youre flying by. You know that right?

Not at all. What I’m suggesting is more of a hit with the hip/rear end, closer to the boards. Rather than driving through with the shoulder. You see it all the time on that type of play.

The NHL also weighs intent when dishing out discipline. To me it didn't look like he was intentionally trying to go after his head or drill him into next week, he tucked his arm in and was gliding at him. It seems like he was just going for a solid shoulder check. Does Rempe have a history of going after players? Honest question, I don't know him at all. If he doesn't I can't see him getting suspended to be honest, unless the NHL wants to make an example out of him

So when bastian turns and his heads down, do an immediate 180 and tap him with your butt. If you wanna outlaw hitting you can just say it

He didn't target the head. That's ridiculous.

But he is tall and needs to learn and acknowledge that you need to be aware of where your body is hitting another player. Just being big isn't an excuse. I don't think there's any intent to injure here. I think it's an unfortunate event that Rempe needs to be aware of. I don't think any further discipline is needed here.

I don’t want to outlaw hitting but if you are taking liberties on a vulnerable opponent and you make significant contact with the head, I think you should face discipline.
So you think troubas hit on meier was bad too game 7? If so, I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what this sport is
