Matt Rempe hit on Nathan Bastian (No Hearing)

Clean hit, shouldn't of even been a penalty. No strides, arm tucked, hits the entire body and doesn't leave his feet. Anyone who thinks it's suspension worthy doesn't know the rules.

I think you forgot the part where he hit him in the head. Should be a long suspension. Unfortunately the NHL’s definition of long is 5 games.

I guess I see the hit differently. Looks to me like he pretty clearly nails him right in the head.

He obviously hits the head, no one is arguing that, but the line of the hit is through the core of the body. its not like an angled approach where he picks the head.

should he get out of the way for bastian since he has his head down? rempe is skating to get into the play and then absolutely hits him, but just as with other NZ hits and such if the player is hitting through the core of the body with the alignment of the hit the league doesnt suspend on head contact.

What's the difference with this hit and the hit trouba had on meier last year in the playoffs? same hit, through the body with initial head contact. no suspension. or the hit on athanasiou. just different parts of the ice

i guess all nhl players should skate with their head down bc then they can take the puck end to end without an issues since everyone has to abandon contact haha

Nope it is. Rule 48. Under certain circumstances it’s allowed, but I don’t see this hit during that criteria.

You'd just skate end to end every shift and nobody would be able to take the puck off you! No stick lifts and stick checks cuz those are for snowflakes amirite lol

First impression is a 2-3 game suspension, but would like to see more video of Bastian leading up to the hit.

Looks like Rempe has a considerable amount of time to line up this hit—not a case of Bastian moving his body immediately before contact making the head contact unavoidable.

News flash, a guy having his head down or being bent over doesn’t mean you can hit him in the head. Onus is on the hitter no matter how tall he is to make sure he’s not crushing a guy in the head.

Had all the time in the world to choose a better angle or let up, Bastian didn’t make any late movements or change his body position. Skated at him with speed from a distance (charging) and drove right through his head. Head was clearly the main point of contact.

In summary, charging, no last minute movement by Bastian, head clearly the main point of contact.

Probably rightfully gets a couple games for it.

Looking at the box score, apparently he came back and got into a fight with Trouba. I guess he needed more head injury.

literally any coach at any legit level instructs people to take the body and not reply solely on stick checks, so yeah, nhl teams just replying on sticks would probably not be very effective, but sure, try it...
