I don't see how you can claim to care about player safety and not think that's a 20 game suspension. The only point of contact was the head. It wasn't accidental, there wasn't follow through. He got off the bench and charged at Bastian who was bent over for a good 3-4 seconds before the hit. There was no point where Rempe could have possibly thought "I'm not going to hit his head if I continue this trajectory" unless he has an IQ below 60. I don't think I've seen such a blatant headshot in a long time.

But the principal point of contact was the head....which is illegal in the NHL whether it is hit with the shoulder or the elbow. It wasn't a legal hit in the NHL based off of it's rulebook. I don't think it was like an egregiously dirty hit or anything but I wouldn't be shocked if he gets a call either.
this isnt true, the league has constantly ruled that head as PPoC is okay if the hit is through the core of the body. this hit was through the core of the body.

I’m pretty old school but man, that hit was bad. Scott Stevens style

Did you watch the second angle of the hit? There was no contact with the body whatsoever.

Legal hit in the Jacob Trouba world. Unfortunately he isn’t Jacob Trouba so he’s going to at the minimum have to give back his last paycheck.

Player put himself in a position that contact with the head was unavoidable. League rules state that is not targeting the head.

If you’re a tall guy and you play in a league that’s trying to eliminate headshots, it’s your job to figure out how to throw checks without hitting the head. Rempe did not. You can try to hide behind the rules as they’re currently written but that’s being naive.

You can make contact with peoples head. Learn the rules.

was there any way he could have hit him while standing up?
If no how can that be a penalty
Bastian was in a vulnerable position. Rempe could have held up. He'll learn from it. He's a physical player, but I wouldn't call him dirty. Just an unfortunate outcome where a kid is trying to make a name for himself to stay in the lineup.

Anyone calling for a suspension cares to remind us how many games Tommy Wilson got? Or the contact of Panarin's head with the ice doesn't count bc it's not Wilson's elbow?

"Principal point of contact" hasn't been part of the rules since 2013.

How was it unavoidable? Bastian was already head down battling with the puck before Rempe even got on the ice. It was a full on charge into a headshot. I know Rangers fans are known for being fairweather but you could at least read the rulebook before spouting non-sense.

The rule doesn’t say a player can’t be hit in the head. Head contact was unavoidable. Bastian had his beak out, head was down a millisecond before and Rempe is 6’8
This. It is funny how many people who invoke the rule book don’t actually understand the rule. There are legal hits which include head contact.

The rule book literally states its not the players responsibility to ensure they're in good position before laying a hit. Should players not finish their checks? Perhaps you're the one spouting nonsense there skippy

it's not his fault he's tall, but that excuse doesn't really work anymore and hasn't for awhile

first angle looks like an elbow to the head in real time, second angle looks like a shoulder check to his face, either way i don't think this is what a coach means when he says finish your checks
