As Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart said in 1964 about obscenity, pornography, and hits we don’t want in the game:

“I know it when I see it”

That is not a hit that we want in the game.

So if your of a certain height you shouldn't finish your checks?

Yes. Finish your checks. But you probably have to be more careful than others about hitting guys in the head..just like you gotta be more careful swinging your stick around. Or walking through door frames.

What is this clown Rempe even doing in the NHL?
eh, he's obviously huge, but is a good skater and has enough skills to probably be an effective fourth liner who can beat the crap out of people if need be. If he can make sure to not do shit like this and get suspended then he could stay in the lineup and other teams will probably hate him in the long run because even "regular" hits from him are gonna hurt

Pretty much.

In today's NHL, that should be 1-2 games.

Everyone making the size argument: is Rempe free to high-stick everyone Ty in the face because he's tall?
They can’t even keep their own garbage straight.

The same people whining that Bastian was crouching to find the puck are saying it’s cause Rempe is “too tall” lol. A guy that’s 5’10” is putting his shoulder in Bastian’s face too.

The guy is a goon and the Rangers lose nothing with him getting a match penalty because he was only going to play 90 seconds anyway. Sideshow.

I think you mistook this year for 2005.

For a bunch of years now, the NHL does not want you to hit the guy with the puck if it's gonna be in the head. Especially guys who don't see you coming.
Like, how am I supposed to debate you when you don’t even know the rules?

No because high sticking is an objective penalty. Making head contact with a shoulder isn't otherwise 1/4 league would be serving suspension at any point. What a laughable comparison.

Smoking a guy with primary contact from your shoulder to his head is an objective penalty.

This is that really problematic grey area where Rempe didn't do anything wrong technically (kept his elbow tucked, didn't leave his feet, didn't take strides prior to the hit), but it was still head contact because Bastian was in an awkward position. How much responsibility is on Rempe to not hit Bastian here, how much responsibility is on Bastian to not put himself in a vulnerable position.

Kind of a silly post, but I guess most haven't followed his development. The kid was drafted as an awkward, tall, skilled guy. He changed his game as he aged but never really lost the skill he had as a young kid.

He's also a good skater (not just for his size, he's a good skater in general - elite for his size) as we saw when he sent Bastian into the netherrealm

Yeah, it was textbook. Shoulder tucked, glided in. 5 minutes for being to big and Bastian having his head down.
Head is clearly up. He was turning up ice. It's the hitter's responsibility to make a clean hit. Rempe goes for the left half of the body and ensures contact up high. If he angles to Bastians left shoulder he has a much great chance of a clean hit.

I'd like to see a longer replay. Rempe appears to come from distance. Gliding at the time of impact would not exclude him from a charging call - if the league remembered they had that rule in the book.
