Dude do you want to see headshots? I do not consider that a hit rather a dangerous dirty move knowing the ramifications of head injuries.

There is zero room for that in the NHL, after all it is called the Department of player safety and that was just reckless.

It's an easy suspension for the league as well as the guy is a complete non NHL player.

My initial response to this- the hit itself looks clean, elbow tucked, not charging, but the result is unfortunate because Bastian had his head down and didn't see him coming.

I feel the same...Head wasn't targeted intentionally, but contact was made - that is the unfortunate reality of a fast paced contact sport.

Sooner than later we'll see fighting and shortly after that checking removed from the game entirely.

I personally don’t like that hit. You can call it a fundamental misunderstanding but there isnt another level of hockey you can make that hit without facing severe disciplinary action. I guess this is what hockey purists warned about when people wanted players to helmets. It’s a slippery slope. First they make you wear helmets, next thing you know they want to stop hits that knocks a player into next week.

I don't care about intent the video shows that the head was impacted and the Devils player was in a venerable position being partially checked.

dont think it was even a penalty. Def should not be a suspension. He was basically suspended a full game for a borderline bad hit. Move on. He hit the head of a guy bent over and hes 6’8”. No intent to injure, no elbows up, and he was gliding in.

But the refs were atrocious tonight.

How bastiaon doesnt get an instigator after trouba destroyed him is mind boggling. Literally chased him down and grabbed him from behind to start a fight.

Also the puck literaly hitting the 6th man on ice, play stopped and no penalty.

So it doesnt surprise me that they completely blew this call as well.

I wore out my fair share of Rock em Sock em VHS’s. It’s conflicting because I still do like that part of the game, it’s just getting harder to look past the damage that style of hockey can cause.

Should've been a match penalty on Bastian. League is a joke. He lead with his head directly into Rempe's elbow.

Wish Rempe a speedy recovery. He'll definitely be out for a few games with an upper body injury due to this senseless hit

I don't get the whining, Even if it wasn't a game misconduct it probably would have still been a penalty and the Refs gave the Rangers a slashing makeup call right after the 5 minute major.

So whats the issue?
-hitters can't hit anymore? you've had more then a decade to whine about that change
- Scott Stevens got to do it 20 years ago and its not fair?
- Rempe is a star player that was missed and will affect the Rangerd dearly if he is suspended?

How can you hit a guy head on then? Bastain bends down before contact Rempe doesn't change course at all. He didn't just hit the head, I could see a penalty for targeting then. He went thru him, the game in general is so soft.

This is that really problematic grey area where Rempe didn't do anything wrong technically (kept his elbow tucked, didn't leave his feet, didn't take strides prior to the hit), but it was still head contact because Bastian was in an awkward position. How much responsibility is on Rempe to not hit Bastian here, how much responsibility is on Bastian to not put himself in a vulnerable position.

This is it. Rempe has to avoid the guy but also very reasonable to say bastion must not put himself in that position.
It’s a poor decision on top of a poor decision.
