Zaitsevs contract is less of a boat anchor then JTs
JT only has two years left. It expires the same year as Marner's. That's not a boat anchor, just an obvious overpay at this stage of his career.

The 2018 team had 1 bad long term contract which was Zeitsev

On forward our team now is literally the 4 (3 were there in 18) with one on a shit deal and the others needing to get paid. Knies and jarnkrok at Forward. So basically the same or possibly worse then what was there in 2018

On D it's Lily, Mo and a bunch of dudes on their way to the glue factory and breaking down. Which I guess is better then Mo and a bunch of glue factory guys

Goalie we're worse.

We also have no picks and still have only one NHL player out of our prospect pool ( despite all of the Dubas is a genius drafter takes)

Dubas was smart in one way and that's that he ran away right before the roof caved in on his career
You do realize that next year we have a 1st, 3rd, 4th, two 5ths, a 6th and two 7ths.

That would be a big risk. Woll could struggle as a #1 for the first time in his career, Murray could of course be injured, and then despite signing a decent veteran #3, you could could still be up the creek without a paddle. If I am Treliving as a first year Leafs GM, I'm not prepared to roll the dice on that one.
If Woll isn’t the answer it’d be nice to know that now.

They've been looking for a goalie for 6 yrs, another year doesnt really matter.

It's crazy how much worse we are and yet we've done better.

False.

Then what do you do with Samsanov and Woll, both better/cheaper goalies?
Keep Woll and see if he can be a number 1. Samsonov is not part of the future so there’s no need to sign him if the can avoid it.

If Woll is the answer they can always find a good backup if one of the Marlies isn't good enough.

When was Murray solid exactly?

The guy finished with a 0.903 sv%.

There is no world where that is even decent.

I mean, we make fun of Edmonton with freddy who had a better sv %. Was he also solid except for when he wasnt?
Before injury he was solid. I’m assuming you mean Campbell in Edmonton? He had a worse sv% and is paid more for longer term and no trade clause.

If you mean Andersen on the hurricanes he also posted a .903 save percentage and is paid more with a ntc.

Before he got injured he was giving up 4 + for how many straight starts.?

Our D is in a much better position currently, I would not want to go back to:

Rielly - Hainsey
Gardiner - Zaitsev
Dermott - Polak

just my opinion though.

Sure, but if I take over the roster that Dubas did, and I elect not to sign John Tavares, in the summer of 2020, I have the cap space to bring in Alex Pietrangelo as a free agent.

So up front, I would have Matthews and Kadri instead of Matthews and Tavares, but on defence, I've added Alex Pietrangelo to be a true #1 defensemen.

I like that roster better.

I don't see it as much of a risk like I said with goalie's being so unpredictable year to year, Sammy could just as easily be as bad as Murray was this year, or Murray could play like he did in the first half of this year, there is no way of knowing imo with them so why would you handicap our cap with dead space for 2 season's or pay to trade someone when there's no guarantee the other 2 are even going to be any better.

Did you re-sign Kadri at 7 million? Terrible contract.

Petro has been a mix of good and bad with Vegas, his contract looked bad last year. Not sure he is a true #1 any more than Rielly is.

to answer your question it was 2 games. below is taken from a sportsnet article.

TORONTO – Matt Murray’s flared-up ankle injury is “going require some time, for sure” to heal up, according to Sheldon Keefe.

The Toronto Maple Leafs coach did not estimate a recovery timeline for his goaltender’s return but is hopeful Murray will not be sidelined long-term.

Murray underwent testing Sunday and will take time to rest. Expect an update when the Maple Leafs return from their bye week and practice Feb. 9 in Columbus.

After suddenly pulling out of Friday’s showdown with his former team, the Ottawa Senators, Murray was deemed unable to play due to an aggravated ankle ailment he had quietly been nursing for a while.

based on this article posted on Jan 29th on Sportsnet by Luke Fox Matt had been trying to play through an ankle injury which for a goalie would seem like a pretty tough thing to do. so it's not surprising he struggled in his last few starts. when he returned from this injury he was very poor.

And the next year we have one pick in top 3 rounds we've pumped away picks.

JTs is a massive boat anchor especially since we're going to give Auston and willy more. Even without the no move there is 0 teams that would take it

It's crazy how much worse we are and yet we've done better.

False.

Our "next level genius GM" got better by one win in the playoffs with two more years of work and left an absolute Shitshow contractual situation with no moves for everyone. Our situation is significantly worse now because we have minimal leverage and are stepping into even richer deals then he stupidly gave out

Trading a first to dump him and then blaming it on Dubas would be hilarious if it didn't hurt the Leafs which it would. The excuses made for Dubas ineptness were amusing over the years. Raise your hand if you want to give up a first to move this guy? What, no takers... Exactly. Only Dubas is that bad.

What ever happened to that guy who gave up a 1st to move Monahan last summer? Woof amiright!

That looks like February Article

At the end of the season he gave up 4 goals in 7 of 9 games and that was the last we saw of him

Leafs used 4 goalies last season....so did several other NHL teams....Ottawa used seven! There is pressure for NHL to compress the schedule and finish Playoffs by June 1st rather than this ridiculous mid June format which hurt fan interest. Players Assoc. gave approval of 84 game schedule...all of which shows NHL teams require 3 and more capable Goalies! Injuries WILL happen! Offer Samsonov a contract like 3 years at $10 million....he is a RFA with little leverage...bring Woll Samsonov and Muray all to camp...competition is a great thing! Even carrying all 3, Cap hit would be under $9 million! Mid 30's goalies Varlamov, Bernier, Reimer, Elliott, Quick, Halak, Greiss, Craig Anderson, Stalock all could retire this summer or play in Europe/KHL. Solid NHL goalies are at a premium. Supposed up and comers like Knight, Merzlikins, Kahkonen, Blackwood and (yes) Jack Campbell have struggled! Matt Murray just turned 29 last month and has value. By the ten game of each NHL season some team has a significant goalie injury.... Certainly NO need to give up assets to move Murray's contract now. One of the few smart things we learned from Lou is if you have time, USE it!

That’s a logical reason to sign Samsonov and have three goalies on the roster.

the article was posted on Jan 29th. and yea he had a very poor month which brought his stats way down, was a 920 goalie on Jan 1 and then 911 at time of his injury with potentially trying to play through said injury. and was terrible when he got back. he wouldn't be the first player to play poorly after an injury mid season...

I don’t know about decent but I think league average was about ~0.900 this season and by goals saved above expected he was about even.

Not great, but the discussion around him is definitely being soured by the fact that he had by far his worst stretch right at the end of the season. Petr Mrazek he was not.
