That's what goalies in this league have been like for the past 15 years or so.

I mean, how many guys in the NHL have had a really solid 5-year stretch since 2005? The days of having a stud in nets for the better part of a decade and no worries about consistency or big saves is long gone. Whtever is going on in the goalie world, it's not creating guys who are consistently elite from year to year anymore.

the other part of this is there are so many good goalies out there for crazy cheap - and next year in expansion there will be even more available.

Nilsson being a good example of a guy who could be good but not great and make your team respectable.

Logan Brown, Brannstrom, Balcers OOPS!, Chlapik, Jaros OOPS.

I also want to see what Sokolov can do, he seems to have a bit of magic, the season is frigged completely and I’d like to see him Play a game or tow
At this point it wouldn't hurt. Apparently Sok kept up decently in camp so I could see him getting games down the line.

If Dorion was in front of me rn, not sure if I'd scold him or tune him tbh.

Sit him for daccord and get him working with our goalie coach.

Build his confidence up. Guy is feeling rough from his last 2 seasons and he needs to build himself up obvs.

What a mess. We really needed some pre- season

It’s hard to even not like Matt Murray. He just showed up here to sucker Pierre Dorion to get his money and inside you’re like ‘well if you were going to sucker a GM for money it would be Pierre Dorion, I can’t even be mad about that.’
I’ll never begrudge anyone for getting their cheddar

But what were the negotiations? Like this must be more than Murray ever dreamed of getting after his year last year. But was his first ask 8~9 a year?

Teams are allowed to carry 3 goalies this season...
Then bring him up yesterday for christ sake. Murray needs to sit for a bit. Sample size is big enough for me.

He's not only putting up bad numbers, he looks completely off and uncomfortable. I can't see that being reversed in the matter of a few games. Would love to be proven wrong though

Man was i wrong on this one, i didn't think he'd be our saviour or anything but i thought he'd be an upgrade over last year.

Structure in front of him has been terrible but come on...

Worst goalie trade since Leclaire, at least we weren't paying Leclaire gobs of money
You weren’t the only one. I got slaughtered by most posters when I said I thought getting Murray was a terrible idea. Most said he’s had one bad year but 2 Cups, I got called an idiot lol.

People need to chill, for how bad Murray has been our defence has been soo much worse it's not even close we can't keep letting snipers like Boeser just walk uncontested in for a clean shot or letting teams have a player open between the faceoff circles for a free and easy goal or set up for one. He could be as bad as he seems to be now but I cant say he is without giving him a fair chance where he actually has help.

Gudbranson shouldn't be on the PK he is too slow and he gets caught flat footed when players get behind the net and just skate or pass it right by him to the front of the net it's comically bad, off the top of my head he is responsible for 2 PP goals against us because of the reasons listed.

For the 16 goals we got scored on during the VAN series at least 6 of them maybe more can be directly blamed on our lack of defensive support, don't get me wrong goalies are supposed to help you out and steal a few of those but when it happens 10+ times a game you're going to let some in, and when that happens not even Carey Price can help.

When MTL had no defensive support for Price the media and fans were calling for him to be traded because he "sucked". Not comparing him to Price just saying even the best goalies cant do anything without a team barring a few exceptions (Hasek, Roy, Brodeur).

(Edit) I should also say I was against getting him and signing him, but i'm willing to give him a chance.

The rumours were that he was getting 6M wherever he went.

If he helps us get the #1 pick why should we be mad? I have no doubt there are lots of players who don't care to play right now but are going through the motions.

I didn't think it could get worse than Anderson, but Murray has one upped him pretty hard. Gonna be a long 4 years for him and the team if he doesn't get his shit together.

The team in front of him may be dreadful, but his performance is still very poor in context.

That, and the other suggestions of goalies we could've signed, assumes any of them would want to sign here.
Didn't trading for Murray rely on him being willing to sign here? I guess he was RFA, and the likelihood of losing him to an offersheet was nil. In hindsight we probably should have gone to arb...

Can you imagine, trade a 2nd for him only to take him to arb...

Anyways, hope he can pull out if this funk,

Because being stuck with this contract will be terrible. Melnyk won't bury it and spend more. So we will be looking to attach that contract to trades to balance the books.

We had to replace Ryans contract with something...

He give what, maybe 3 bad goal. Couple goal was deflection and other or perfect shot. Top corner or the puck hit the side of the post. Mistake by our defense and let the player alone. I want to see a bigger sample after the team start playing well before to be worried

Hard to blame Murray for all the goals... he play in front of a AHL defense in the toughest division in the NHL. like poor guy.

He's had a few bad goals, but moreso he just looks leaky all over. No confidence at this point. Looks small in the net, not aggressive, out of position, lapses in focus, etc.

The team in front of him certainly bares a fair amount of the responsibility here, but I don't see that improving much based on the roster, so we can only judge Murray with the chips he's been dealt. I do agree though, that defence is awful, so good luck to Murray.
