Honest question, but are As ceremonial or do they provide some utility?
https://www.newsday.com/sports/hock...zuccarello-as-an-alternate-captain-1.14350633The gritty forward whose passion, competitiveness and intensity — which even a brain injury after being struck by a shot in April 2015 didn’t diminish — belies his stature. The 5-8 playmaker led the Rangers in points in three of the last four seasons. That, as well as his infectious attitude off the ice, are what persuaded captain Ryan McDonagh and coach Alain Vigneault to choose Zuccarello to join Marc Staal and Rick Nash as alternate captains.
Mats Zuccarello was a natural-born leader even before anointed as one with an “A” on his sweater to symbolize his status as an alternate captain for the 2017-18 season that commences Thursday at the Garden against the Avalanche. He remembers the way it was for him when he first arrived as a 23-year-old from Norway for training camp in 2010.
Would like to see CK get an A; his work ethic and playoff contributions have been exemplary (certainly more so than MS's).Sounds like McD had a hand in the choice of Zooks.

CK or JT Miller would both be good choices in the future.
During AV's interview with Amanda, AV said he went to McD and asked him who he thinks should be given the A. McD said something like Zooks was an obvious choice (can not remember exact wording).
Nash is likely gone after this season, would think Kreider is next in line.Would like to see CK get an A; his work ethic and playoff contributions have been exemplary (certainly more so than MS's).
