Tocchet must be desperate for a HC job because the deck is stacked against him in Vancouver. Fans & media are hating the mistreatment of Boudreau, and it won't be a warm reception for him as he enters our shitstorm.

I imagine he'll be tasked with turning the Canucks into a defense-first team to mitigate the gaping hole we have on defense. It'll be very interesting to keep an eye on how he handles JT Miller. Interesting times ahead.

Bruce has not been treated well by the management team.

They've called him out multiple times in the media despite giving him a shit roster to utilize. They ask him for a better structure but most of the players they've given him care little about defense and details. On the other hand, Bruce has said all the right things and has not once clapped back at management publicly.

That said, he's made enough idiotic roster decisions this season to warrant the firing.

Only like 14 months but it was a fun ride, Bruce.

Bruce was hired before Jim. Bruce is not the coach Jim wants. Jim knows Rick from their time with the Penguins. Jim wanting to get rid of Bruce was always a given.

I was terrified last off season when there was rumours going around that Tocchet was near a deal to be the Jets new coach. I’ve heard nothing to suggest he’s anything but an awful coach, but who knows. I just remember how relieved I was when heard we got Bones.

I thought Bones would to well with the Jets at least shortterm ( mid to longterm we'll see ) . Players love to play for the guy and he's very good at team building stuff. Perfect coach for a team where the locker room was supposedly fractured. He'll get that fixed . The longer he was Stars coach though the worse it got tactically. It's like he made the Stars a 1 line team by choice last year . Just compare Benns numbers from last year with this year ( or even use the 20-21 season under Bones ) . Something was just off last season . Everybody that wasn't topline wasn't allowed to create offense last year.

For those of us who haven't been following closely, can someone give bullet points on what makes the Canucks such a tire fire compared to the other tanking teams?

I am not a Canucks fan but it just seems like they dont have a plan to me. It seems a mish mash of actions. One minute they are trying to get rid of contracts. One minute they are signing Miller to a large contract. The GM thinks they need minor tweaks. Then they realize that major tweaks are needed. They have also treated Boudreau poorly imo.

Rutherford seems to be the defacto GM. I have no idea what Allvin does.

But to me, as an outsider, with limited knowledge, I am assuming that the Canucks are such a mess because of Ownership meddling. Rutherfords old but I dont think hes this inconsistent or this dumb but who knows.

canucks are next level at this shit.

they don't just unnecessarily extend a star player a year early when he is notoriously a bozo extremely likely to slack off the second he gets such a deal.

they don't just extend the bozo when their captain is also a pending ufa and they don't have enough cap to sign both thus signalling a choice being made to said captain and ensuring that said captain is also a lame duck in the room as far as said bozo is concerned.

they don't just make sure the captain gets the message by belatedly opening extension negotiations with him in the $5m range.

they don't just hang their coach out to dry as a lame duck who they didn't really want to sign last summer, they do it only a week into the season because the team has a "mysteriously" bad training camp and a rocky start.

they don't just continue to throw shade at their own coach as if it his fault he suddenly cannot control a dressing room he had eating out of his hand a season earlier. they do it when the team blatantly completely stops playing defence while a bottom pair dman starts dressing down the bozo on the ice on live tv for lazy play and the captain focuses on his stats for ufa negotiations. must be the coach's fault.

they don't just let their meddling owner get involved in flying out to interview a mid season replacement coach even though they have made a point of claiming to the fanbase they have a poho and a gm running the show with hockey ops autonomy from ownership.

they don't just hire a retread old boy's club project with major fleas on him mid-season because nobody else is available. they do it two years in a row.

and they ice it all by letting the whole completely predictable but now suddenly done in a panic firing thing play out publicly on a "two more weeks" timeline to ensure boudreau has to keep coaching in the shittiest most embarassing circumstances imaginable

not to mention i will also bet they don't have tochhett under contract yet so he will now bend them over on all the details, which will mean he will be horrendously expensive to dump and he will stay employed long after he should be gone.

and i will also bet they are only suddenly panic firing boudreau when they showed every sign of blowing off the season because highes or pettersson or both have now made trade requests. so stay tuned.

what a miserable pathetic ride.

I also dont understand what they think Tocchet is going to do for this club? Ownership is something else.

It's basically a slow motion train wreck and I can't stop gawking at it.

-Always right up against the cap
-No good prospects
-Meddling owner
-Team will most likely make offseason moves with their eye on getting back into the playoffs, not rebuilding

I think he'd do great with the Sens. He's hardly the worst coach in the NHL and I think he will get some calls.

The Sens main issue is literally finishing (They can improve a bit on their defensive zone coverage as well, but there are many teams in the playoff spots that are awful defensively, so if they can come close or even excel their finishing, they'd be comfortably in a playoff spot). Boudreau's system always seems to make players overproduce their xGF, so I'd love to give him a try.
