I think Honzek takes one of the final forward spots next year if he’s healthy.
After that, I think we target a #3/4 LHD in free agency (~5/6 mil), and then one more #5/6 dman (2 mil max), a 4C (1.5 mil max) and a backup goalie (2 mil max).

I can’t see Quick leaving a perfect gig in NY behind Shesterkin for a middle of the pack Canadian team. I’d be happy to see Vlad re-signed, he’s been very very solid the last handful of games and I can’t see another backup being a big upgrade unless we get Freddy Andersen for cheap.

Random thought of the day: is there a defenceman in the $5 million range that could use a change of scenery type trade in a swap for Sharangovich?

Starting to feel like the odd man out. Log jam on the wings and missing a top 4 d-man.

I'm not naming these guys as a 1 for 1 swap, just guys that could potentially be available for a number of reasons, from rebuilding to change of scenery... I'm also not suggesting all are a good idea
  • Radko Gudas (ANA)
  • Mattias Samuelsson (BUF)
  • Owen Power (BUF)
  • Connor Murphy (CHI)
  • TJ Brodie (CHI)
  • Josh Manson (COL)
  • Damon Severson (CBJ)
  • Matt Dumba (DAL)
  • Ben Chiarot (DET)
  • Justin Holl (DET)
  • Brady Skjei (NSH)
  • Jeremy Lauzon (NSH)
  • Adam Pelech (NYI)
  • k'Andre Miller (NYR)
  • Travis Sanheim (PHI)
  • Rasmus Ristolainen (PHI)
  • Ryan Graves (PIT)
  • Mario Ferraro (SJS)
  • Logan Stanley (WPG)
And there is always the option to just outright trade Rango and sign a UFA defenseman...
  • Jakob Chychrun
  • Neal Pionk
  • Aaron Ekblad
  • Ivan Provorov
  • Vladislav Gavrikov
  • Brent Burns
  • Dmitry Orlov
  • Dante Fabbro
  • Ryan Lindgren
  • Cody Ceci
  • Matt Grzelcyk
  • David Savard
  • Ryan SUter
  • Alec Martinez
  • Jan Rutta

Hell yes to Pionk if we end up moving on from Razzy. Provorov all day.

Top 5 on that UFA list are great gets but alas will head to higher profile contenders and American destinations. Lindgren and Fabbro seem like viable depth options.

A lot of that potential trade list is down right terrifying. Brodie, Chiarot, Holl, Graves, Dumba, etc. might as well keep Hanley in the top 4.

Would love to swing a Matheson, Pulock/Pelech, Ristolainen or Severson. More likely Samuelsson or Manson type.

Think Sanhiem, Skjei and Power are pipe dreams.

There was a reason why included that I wasn't necessarily suggesting them

I really like Lindgren as a UFA... for trade... Nashville is in a weird spot and Skjei just hasn't looked good there. Sanheim I think could be had, Philly is definitely re-entering another rebuild after failing on their last one. Power... he's a Sabre and Kevyn Adams is the worst GM this league has seen since Milbury... so I wouldn't be too shocked if he was traded since they seem to be willing to move other struggling former high picks in awful trades with other Canadian teams (Cozens to OTT and Savoie to EDM)

Honzek is not playing 4th line minutes next year. He either forces someone out of the top 9 or plays big minutes in the AHL. I think the Flames finally pick up a right shot center and maybe make a trade for an upgrade in top 6 wing. Not sure how much of a splash they will go for defense, if any.

@super6646 Skjei has been mentioned. As a pipe dream, but mentioned nonetheless.

I’ll smoke whatever pipe is necessary to bring Brady to Calgary! That move alone would buy 18 years of goodwill for Connie in my eyes.

I think we should take a flyer
Thoughts on offer sheeting Bourque?
Depends if we can keep it under the threshold for a 1st round pick. I'm guessing that the threshold will be in the ballpark of 4.95-5m per year (at a max of 5 years).

I also assume Dallas is going to be moving out salary this summer. I suspect Dumba and Marchment will be moved to free up space.

Also, another factor will be Tyler Seguin's health... if he ends up LTIRetired, it changes a while lot, as it would free up another almost 10m

If he's willing and we think Dallas won't be able to match... I'd throw him an offer sheet of 2 years with a 4.5m AAV and would be willing to make year 2 higher to increase the QO number afterwards.

I could potentially see our pairings ending up like
Bahl-Rasmus
Weegar-Parekh
Solo-Pachal
Bean, Miro as extras

That’s pretty much what I’m expecting, though with Hanley re-signed as our #7 and Miro fired directly into the sun.

If I was Conroy; I'd be looking at the draft to deal Rasmus Andersson.
I think you'll have a pretty clear picture by then what it would take to re-sign him, and I have a feeling he's not going to be giving Calgary a hometown discount with how much he's left on the table with contract 1 with this club.

I'd target a team like Detroit, they're going to have a low teens pick; they want to finally take that next steps. There's only so many picks you can make until you have to make that jump. Then see what this team wants to do. Sitting on 3 first rounders would be solid, if the scouting staff likes guys then you make those picks for the rebuild, on the flip side, if there's a team interested in moving down you have the assets to do it; or finally if there's a team that wants to make some picks, you have the ability to send them around and pick up some age appropriate players.

Then I'd target a guy like Provorov in free agency to backfill and to give someone like Parekh a solid partner or give Weegar a legit top 4 guy to spend 23-24 minutes a night playing with.

Provorov - Weegar
Bahl - Parekh
Bean/Solo - Pachal

Yeah, offer-sheeting Bourque at ~4.5 for two years would be the perfect use of our cap space. I think he could really break out if given the right opportunity. Plus he fits our age range and is the RHC we are missing.

I agree that we should look to move Rasmus, but I can’t see a team like Detroit or Seattle or another team with a pick in the 10-15 range offering their 2025 1st for one year of Rasmus. I think our best bet is to trade him later in the summer (after July 1st) when we can let the acquiring team negotiate a long-term extension with him. If that were the case, I could see a team like Detroit or Ottawa or Utah offering a 2026 1st (top-5 protected or something)+ a prospect for Rasmus signed with term.

But agreed we should look to move Rasmus and replace him with a UFA like Provorov or Gavrikov or Chychrun or Lindgren that we can afford to overpay in the short term. That way we could get a nice package of futures without downgrading the current roster too much
