Mason was like born to play hockey, like some people are born to become physicists. It’s 2nd nature to him, everything he does looks so authentic.

I swear the scouting reports on McTavish were saying those same things. When he was bouncing around through the different levels of competition, interviews from his coaches were praising his work ethic

Fantastic pass. Head up the whole time. Looked like he was going to bear down on the shot, and he pulled an audible and sauced it over. Nice finish too.

The book on McTavish is he loves to shoot and shoot accurately. Because of that, the goalie has to respect Mac is going to shoot first than pass. Mac having the ability to pass makes him far more dangerous as he's a true two-way offensive player.

I totally forgot that OT goal was Terry's hat trick. Mac has it on the back of his mind on who's close to a hat trick and makes it happen. He did it with Vatrano earlier in the year and he did it with Terry tonight. Mac could have easily shot that puck and make it b/c I've seen it done before, specifically at the WJC's.

That hesitation move he pulled at center ice was a thing of beauty. Sucked the defender in, spin, and boom gone.

Last night shows how unselfish he is as well. I’m sure he wanted to pull the trigger for his 3rd GWG in a row. Especially with his shot.

EDIT - I’m dumb forgot about Philly game

In his first 100 games he has 59 points and so far on the season has 13 points in 11 games. Hope he is able to finish the season above a point per game.

D+1 (18 years old): 9 games
..... 2g +1a = 3 pts (0.33 ppg)

D+2 (19-20 yrs old): 80 games
..... 17g + 26a = 43 pts (0.54 ppg)

D+3 (20 yrs old): 11 games
..... 7g + 13a = 13 pts (1.18 ppg)

total: 100 games, 25g + 34a = 59 pts.

In Mac's scouting report, some scouts noted Mac often has multi-point games. In just 11 games this year, he's got three multi-point games. Last year, Mac had eight multi-point games in 80 games and one multi-point game in the first 11 games.

I'm so happy to see Mac make that big jump from his rookie season! And he's still a work in progress! Although it's a small sample, Mac's improved his FO% from 42.3% last year to 54.7% this year. Mac's going to be stronger next year, and maybe even have a bigger physical bite!

We all knew it had to be Carrick - your fourth liner don’t always score 2 goals. Good on MacT to push it back. Just shows his calmness and leadership.

This is consistent with him knowing which teammates needed a goal for a hat trick in Vatrano and Terry. Mac could have won the game in OT with his blazing shot instead of dishing the puck to Terry, but Mac still dished the puck to Terry to get the game winning hat trick goal.

I think the narrative of him dishing the puck to Terry for the hat trick is silly.

He’s trying to win the game and felt it was the best play, not for individual stats. Empty nets are a different story.
