Reports surfacing of former #tblightning captain Marty St. Louis losing his mother are accurate, condolences to the St. Louis family

Supposedly she's been ill for a while. Maybe this has been affecting his play and who knows about his status for the game tomorrow. Regardless, condolences to him and his family. Always sad to read stuff like this.

EDIT - NYR confirm.

#NYR confirm Martin St. Louis' mother, France, passed away today unexpectedly at age of 63. No update on hockey for a second. Terrible news

Well, that could explain his play. Either way, condolences, and now I feel bad for him being booed yesterday. :(

Awful news. Reminder to us all that players, at times contrary to popular belief, are very much human.

Awful, awful news. I don't expect him to play, and he deserves the time off if he chooses to take it.

yeah me neither. when my dad died i was a wreck for months...its been six years and i still have moments where im kinda stunned. i dont think that ever goes away.

I called my mom tonight to tell her I love her after I heard about MSL. We are a hockey family, and we were actually arguing about game 4 this morning. When push comes to shove, your family is your team. I wish MSL the best during his mourning.

Terrible news. The one tweet stated it was unexpected. I wonder if it was or not, or to the degree of what unexpected means. Had she fallen ill recently with something but was expected to get past it? And then conditions got worse in the past week or so? MSL literally had been on fire during the first few games against Philly. Since then he has slowly not looked like himself. He didn't have the same jump that he usually does. I would imaging this has something to do with it. I wonder if he plays tomorrow night for his mother. If he doesn't play it is more than understandable. There are things more important than hockey.

My condolences goes out to MSL.

Pens fan putting hockey aside for the time being.

I'd like to offer my condolences as well to the St. Louis family, and right before mothers day too, I feel for Marty and his family during this time. :(

Condolences to Marty.

Still one of my favorite players of all time.

Stay strong bud.

That's heavy. Rough time for Marty and his fam. I don't expect him to play tonight and if he does, I hope nobody decides to smack talk him if he has a bad game. I lost my dad four years ago (the day after Father's Day, at that) and it still stings all the time.

Was she sick for a while? Was she local?

Might explain the nature of the trade rather than just a rift over Team Canada.

Horrible situation to be in.

Condolences to the St. Louis family.

Playing any game with that on your mind will affect anyone.

He would never mention that as a reason, but I think we all know better.

Hope he takes the time he needs to process what has happened. Be with your family, this would not be the last game you will ever play.
