You can keep trying to twist the data as much as you want.

We are very lucky to be able to get eliminated on April 27th as opposed to April 4th thanks to Marner's awesome play.

What do you think we would do without the 179th best goal producer in the playoffs and the 42nd best playoff point getter????? And I'm not talking Andre Burkovosky (44th best pp/60 in playoffs) nor am I talking Nick Foligno (180th best g/60 in the playoffs), I'm talking the legendary Mitch Marner!!!

#WeAreBlessed #ThankYouLordForMitch #JustPassedupanOpenNetToHonorHim

Boston got rid of Thornton got a cup
Washington got rid of Semin/Green got a cup
Florida got rid of Huburdeau got a cup

Leafs can't get rid of Mitch though lmfao

I’m going to come with middle ground. I do agree with you. But the issue is those teams traded those players. They weren’t walked to UFA. The move everyone wanted shoulda been made in 2021 after Montreal or 2023 after Florida. The opportunity to make that type of move is GONE, unless you can convince him to waive in the next few months. The three teams you named didn’t build via UFA. They made some big trades to change the identity. 2023 was the best opportunity. We brought in some good players and you coulda moved Marner and sold ROR maybe on a new era ect.

The cap space is nice if you let him walk but it’s a massive gamble and people keep down playing it. You have to bank on your UFA signings to produce more than they are worth. Who in UFA would you replace him with?

The bum might be the top right winger for Canada. Too funny, this place is a toxic afterthought. Once again reality pierces the circle jerk.

Nobody nominated as Selke finalist is "over rated" defensively. Maybe jaundiced eyes here are, reality suggests otherwise. Marner was out two of the last three minutes for a reason.
He’s a solid two player only problem is he’s on the smaller side plays every bit his size and gets in his own head in the playoffs when the games matter let’s hope some of that can change cause he’s got the skill to be great

No they were, means you can't accept it. It wasn't an accident. Asks Berube who's his best defensive forward. Look, he's failed when it's mattered, but he's on Team Canada for a reason, he's an All Star for a reason, he's a Selke finalist for reasons. We can admit all that and still be critical.
He made team Canada already??

I fully expect Reinhart and Marner to be the top RW. I think Point will play his off wing or C. Canada’s very loaded with right hand shots. Verhaghe has to be on this team too. Guys a stud, sucks we let him go in a throw away deal.

That's not a realistic option.

Again, we can't trade him. It's either keep one of the best players in the world, or lose him for overpaid mid-tier UFAs that provide less collective impact.
Wow
1. Any trade is possible if parties agree.
2. The point of the discussion is at the percentage of the cap he MAY want, likev13+ for 5 or 8, his cap space is more value than he is. We are losers, we must be prepared to try and win, with or without Mitchy. His demands will make the decision for us. He is a very good, superior player, but he has a limit

Do you believe there is no Cap Hit too high to re-sign him? What if he wants Max?
Of course there's a limit. I wouldn't pay him max. But there's no reason to think that it's going to take anything close to max.
You can keep trying to twist the data as much as you want.
Nothing is twisted. You can easily verify the data yourself. Those stretches of season-playoff production discrepancies aren't as abnormal as you want them to be, and they happen to all sorts of players. It doesn't mean what you want it to.

Marner isn't any of those. Marner is the Backstrom, who was kept. The Bergeron, who was kept. The Barkov, who was kept.
Any trade is possible if parties agree.
Both parties would not agree to that. It's not realistic. I'm talking about realistic alternatives before we throw away one of the best players this franchise has ever seen.

It's not though. People overrate what cap space actually gets you.

Bergeron Center 6'1 196lbs
Barkov Center 6'3 214lbs
Backstrom Center 6'1 202lbs
Marner Winger 6'0 180lbs

There's a big difference between Marner and these guys.

Reinhart C, 8.6 million after a 57 goal, 94 point season and Stanley cup.

We paid Nylander W, 11.5 million after a 98 point season.

Now we are talking about Marner, pacing 8-10 goals for 11.5-12 million? Marner has 4 even strength goals in his last 36 games.

How do we think we are going to compete against the leagues best?

almost like the big difference when comparing hyman and marner on opposite wings on that graphic above.

and yet, somehow, someway, it was used to evidence to BOOST marner.

twilight zone 'round here.

marner continues to be garbage. least this'll be the last year we have to see him wearing Leafs colours.

In 2019 Berkshire indicated there is a stat that tracks goal producing plays and Marner was far down the list in the league, despite Marners 94 point season that year. While Matthews, Nylander and Tavares were high.

This year he has at 3 points from clearing or dump ins. He has at least two assists from his shots attempts that were blocked at his teammates cleaned up.

He only has 1 5v5 pass that was intentional that led to a goal and it wasn't the greatest spot, but Matthews has the greatest shot and scored. Not that great of a setup either, it was a high low set play that all the leafs often do.
This would be interesting to have a look at if you can find it again. It appears to me that Marner scores a lot of cheap points anyway but if there was some hard data backing this up, yeah that would be interesting.

Marner isnt that heavy or tall either. Mind you all players sizes are exaggerated.

Takes more than one player and you can't change that 10 games into the season.

Just seems weird to froth on a guy after he played well about something he can't change today.

Its not the 10 games. Its the 8 seasons (going on 9). He is the only one that has failed every playoffs. every playoffs. And he is about to get a pay raise, when he isnt living up to his contract now.

At 13m I can assure we will be a better team with a 7m and 6m player instead. He does not have the level of impact needed to command that money.
