He seems to be going to the “dirty” areas a little more. Will that continue? Who knows. I’ve said it before, he’s not a very fast point A to B skater and lacks that burst. This is why he is usually neutered in the playoffs. But if he fights for his space, than maybe he can find some success
100%....and it is just "a little more".

Lets not forget its a contract year. Once he gets that 8 year nmc, he will be back to perimeter hockey.

It’s a bit much for sure, but that’s the beauty of it, everyone can evaluate a player as they wish.

While I don’t agree with his over the top hatred, there are some valid points there. There have been players in every sport that can accumulate points, but the eye test sometimes doesn’t match.

I think alot of the Marner push back is solely based on a select group of posters who make any excuse to pump his tires. Make comments that seem like he is the only one on the ice at times. And again, those posters have every right to do so.

Just wish we could keep the personal insults out of it. It’s healthy to have different opinions and we shouldn’t really get upset over it.

Couldn’t agree more, there’s nothing wrong questioning his effectiveness in the playoffs, there’s nothing wrong with believing he is an extremely important part of our roster. You have extremes on both ends but I will say things have been fairly civil as of late. I think there is more common ground for all fans on Marner than we think.

Why dont you ask your relative.. you know the one who apparently was a high upnexecutive for the Leafs and gave you completely incorrect information about the quit crying bro story?

What relation was that guy to you again? what was his explanation when you confronted him with his completely bogus story he reportedy fed you? You must have been pissed! Completely destroying your credibility like that.

Haha I had no relation to the guy. He was an assistant coach, actually saw him the other day and had a good chuckle and what a complete baffoon you are.

Lmao your attempts to troll are honestly pathetic. You’re not funny in the slightest, you think Marner Only Fans is a good insult for some weird reason. But it’s fun working you up into a fit hahaha. Cannot wait for another week of you running to this thread after some great Marner performances!

Same, 11.5 is the max I’d go, matching Nylander

You can continue your Marner hate tirade now. The day he signs his extension midget be the best day on this board honestly. Might just be the thing that breaks you enough to leave for good! For that reason alone I hope for an 8 year extension.

I think many fans feel this way, but I think the reality is that Marner's career stats are better than Nylander's, including in the playoffs, so it's hard to envision a scenario where he doesn't get a higher AAV.

Absolutely. I think that’s a fair assessment. Of Marner wants to buy some good will, the best way would be to match Nylander’s money. If he wants to go short term to cash in again is also have no problem with that too because at least gives us the flexibility to move off him if by some unfortunate chance we continue to struggle.

What you said was that everyone drastically drops off in the playoffs. You are wrong, period.

Matchups less than nothing to do with it. M&M always face tough matchups both regular season and the playoffs, so do the players on top lines on every team in the universe. But that's no excuse, top players keep on producing offence same as the regular season. Rantanen for example is a playoff beast but Marner, the guy so far hasn't figured out how to be anywhere near as productive as he is during the regular season. I know you're loath to admit it but it's the simple truth.

LOLOLOLOL.

You're lost. Go get some sleep or something, sheesh.

Marner doesn't play at a rate of 81 % ( absolutly nobody playing at this rate in regular season) vs toughest matchup in regular season

Everyone complains about playoff Tavares but neglet to point out he mostly got defensive zone starts, while Marner got much more offensive zone playoff starts.

Offensive zone start % 2024 playoffs:
Marner 63%
Nylander 45%
Tavares 33%

Also... note that Marner fans always apeculate hes injures in the playoffa when he isnt...but Matthews and Nylander were actually ill but they show them no mercy lol.

Nylander had no injury at all, he had migraine issu. By experience, when you've got migraine, you just can't do anything so i understand why he didn't play those game. When migraine stop, you came back at 100%. Every detail like sleep rime, nutrition, alcohol, drink water , head hit and more having impact on migraine.

Marner had high ankle injury who's taking in general 6 to 8 week just for the recovery but the time you find back your pre-injury game taking a long time. Some player dealing with high ankle injury like football player struggling extremely hard to come back from high ankle injury and needed couple of month to get it back to their previous level. That's the issu with ankle sprain, you can still have issue with it even after the recovery.

If they all do get pushed, don’t focus on one guy
Really it’s him and Matthews that are the biggest concern. If they can’t play and be effective and the team relies on Domi to lead them, they’re not winning.

These numbers are based on +- which pretty much everyone besides you realized many years ago is not a good way of evaluating players, especially with such a small sample size.
Ignoring facts like usual. Back to the kids table for you.

You're on a roll today. First you continue on with this nonsense about "everyone drops off" in the playoffs, even after being shown that this isn't true. Then you follow up with Nylander being "unable to create anything" which is completely insane so of course you have nothing to back this up, and now this random 81% number without any explanation as to what it means. I can't wait to see what's next.

I explained to you that your stats are based on +- and thus aren't very useful here to put it mildly. Back to the 1970's for you, come back when you're able to keep up.

Wow, really? If you're hoping the Leafs make whatever decision because it has an impact on what people post here then, that's pretty crazy. If someone's posts trigger you to this extent, you might want to consider ignoring them because this is not rational.

Gary if you couldn’t tell I was being facetious with that post then I don’t know what to tell you. It’s not that deep. No need to try and give me life advice when it’s back and forth banter

Kampfs pass on the SH goal...thats a 4th liner making that pass. When Marner does that he's hailed as Gretzky junior. Passing isn't nearly as difficult as scoring (which is why Nylander is more valuable than Marner).

Marners lack of speed is incredible though... look how slow he is after his steal on the PK. Suzuki blows by him like hes standing still.

What in the world am I watching? This is a post to show us that Marner is slow? What a beautiful play and goal by him. My goodness you're getting desperate.

Some of the stuff posted here is so over the top, it's often impossible to tell who's being serious and who isn't, if you weren't being serious then I'm happy to hear it. Putting someone on ignore if their posts upset you is sound advice though. I wouldn't call it "life advice", just advice on how to keep this place enjoyable for you. :)

Agreed, that was a very nice play by Marner!

I just like getting under his skin and being annoying. I would just completely ignore him if he was truly bothering me and I would assume he’d do the same for me. I don’t think he would at me as much as he does if he also didn’t slightly enjoy the back and forth. No harm no foul on my end. It’s just the internet at the end of the day.

You should post this in a Matthews thread because based on this highlight reel it was
1. Nylander
2. Marner
3. Everyone else.

I'm starting to think you may have been right all along on this. Should the playoffs go well I could see a high 11's payout, brought down to 11 with deferred bonuses. A balance of saving face and securing a palatable AAV. Might depend on any free agency back channeling.

I'd note that we shouldn't assume this new trick is a given, as it's actually disadvantageous for the player.

Lets break them down, which ones specifically did Marner play drive?
I mean it's a stupid question because you're only looking at 4 mins out of 420+ in the entire series but I've come to realize that you only look at stats that fit your narrative. But besides that Marner was the driver behind his goal which is pretty obvious and the Knies goal which he set up for a tap in. His other primary assist to the defensemen on the point I don't know who you would say was the play driver, it was a pretty basic play off the faceoff but the right one none the less.
