Lol I've never said Marner is driving the bus on playing with Matthews...ever.

I don't think hockey players have that kind of power.

All stars in all professional leagues have that kind of power. They may not control down to the exact minutes but stars do have a lot of influence within their organizations. Most organizations want their best guys to stay and be happy so they will take into consideration what they want. Crosby literally made the penguins resign Malkin and Letang even though they wanted to move off both.

I’m a maple leafs fan. Even your jokes are a pile of dog shit. Come up with something at least funny or creative lol.

also seems like you were wrong again about Marner driving the bus on playing with Matthews. As suspected it’s been Matthews driving that throughout the organization all along.

10:40 mark they reference Elliot Fried’s 32 thoughts where he reported Matthews has been extremely vocal that he wants to play with Marner. Just like many of us suspected. Marner is on that top line because the best player in the organization wants him there.

I actually want to see Marner with JT, I think splitting the two big guys is better for us in the playoffs. But it’s funny how we constantly harp on Marner as being entitled when it seems like Matthews is pretty much getting whatever he wants. I’m sure all the top guys are, but we have to look at the situation for what it is. 34 has a huge say clearly and they want to keep him happy.

Two ex players were discussing at intermission yesterday how Marner is the 2nd most important player on the team. Hardly ground breaking news but interesting none the less.

Lol, got to love the strawman fallacies the Marner Only Fans come up with.

- Marner doesn’t go anywhere near the net. That’s the difference.

To put it into visual perspective for you, here are last year's 5v5 playoff shot locations: Mitch Marner in 7 games versus William Nylander in just 4 games.

Please enjoy:

one of Nylander's goals was from the lower southeast quadrant of this chart, the florida if you will. thanks for sourcing these, guy who doesn't care for Marner or think about him at all really

One goal was a point shot with mcavoy doing all the work for Willy

An open net goal after Carle felt alone on the ice and gave up a free 2v1. Nylander
just had to shoot it in a half empty net...

The only goal Nylander scored last 3 year against any top 6 line at 5v5 is a shot from a pretty bad angle gm 5 vs florida...

Last 4 game Nylander goy 4 goal 1 assist vs 1 goal 4 assist for Marner...

2 of those goal was actually basically empty net goal with Rielly/Tavares doing everything with nylander just sent free puck in open net

1 was actually a missed pass who hit Carlo....

Did that really make him better than Marner...

When you're focusing on only one part an forget everything else, you don't get a pretty good picture.

Yes Marner had not be enough good in playoff but sorry nobody had been enough good and need to raise their game. When people said Marner would struggling into Berube system, i was sure it would not be the case and would just help Marner to simplify his game and i tought it would be the player with the highest positive impact. This season, sorry it's marner who was carrying the 1st line, certainly not Matthews who had been pretty easily the worst player of core 4 this season.

No Marner playing great hockey, let see what will happen in playoff in a new system ( whos for me a better fit for marner style). Everybody have something to prove!!

How’s your golden boy Domi doing in the goal scoring department? Don’t hear you bitching about his goal scoring production much. How’s his primary assist numbers looking as well?
Compared to last year after 14 games, he has the same number of goals and one fewer assists.

Primary assists at 5on5 he leads the team, with one more than Tavares, Rielly, and Marner.

I dont hate or praise Marner. He is what he is. Fanastic passer and good on D.
Personaly i value offence more then d in a forward. and goals more then assist(if you are not P Forsberg). Dont know what he is worth in dollares. i am afraid he always will be to fragile mentaly for the plaoffs most important games.. And like a fool i think he will turn that around this year. But this will be the last time. And it is sadly only because its his paying season i got some hope he will be a beast in the playoffs. A small whining beast , but a beast non the less.

As much as I could agree with you he needs to play away from Matthews for that to be proven though he’s had a good year thus far

I know; the goal came from a shot from one of the locations represented on the chart
So Nylander scored a goal by shooting the puck. Ok. Not sure the relevance when discussing Marner's average shot location/distance.

I notice Nylander had 6 shots from the slot area, although apparently he's too scared to ever go there.

He had a great game vs Boston, I thought he was the best player on the ice by a mile on both ends of the ice. He looks far more engaged physically this season, maybe it was the pressure getting to him or maybe culture change with Berube ? But I like his game so far, not the playoffs but I can't recall ever seeing Mitch engage with guys physically after the whistle and throw shots. Also Matthews coming to his defence vs Suter the other day was nice to see, that kind of stuff was unheard of from this team.

I gave him a lot of shit, i'll also give him credit where it's due. We all want the Leafs and Mitch to succeed for this team. Really hoping he can consistently play like that.

He’s a career over point a game player with and without Matthews so why are we sticcin them together spread the offense
Willy and Auston are both shoot first guys, Marner is a great set up guy

"Mitch Marner has 16 goals, 52 assists and a plus-minus of +16 in 56 games without Auston Matthews in his career"

Too bad he couldn't produce when Matthews was out against Boston in the playoffs in the spring. There were a ton of posts here saying OK Mitch, now we really need you to step up and show us what you're worth. Well, he sure did show us, didn't he.

It's frustrating seeing how good Matthews/Domi were last year and having Berube basically avoid them ever being together this season

If we can get a center at the deadline, we should reunite Matthews/Domi and let Marner play with the new acquisition. Spreads out the talent and will give us 3 really good lines

Knies - Matthews - Domi
Patches - Tavares - Nylander
McMann - XXX - Marner

If they get someone like Gourde that L3 suddenly becomes an elite matchup line that can score

I've noticed that too this year, and he's actually winning his fair share of board battles. A couple games ago he was out late to seal a win and he won and held off two players on the boards, was quite physical. I mean, the obvious retort is the playoffs, but it is noteworthy that his style is more engaged physically so far this year. It's an encouraging sign, that and more forward play making, the "north south" engagement, rather than curling away at all times, it's more situationally appropriate so far.

Would you pay him 12M?

Marner generally has no issue lighting it up during the regular season when teams are tired and you get to play weaker teams and shinny hockey. He struggles when they force him to shoot by covering his teammates in the playoffs... well, because, he can't.

The playoffs have all been the same thing. Double Matthews, block the pass to the other linemate and let Marner beat the goalie - which he can't.

If Marner had a decent shot, he would be a lot harder to defend. Since he doesn't, he cripples his linemates because the other teams double Matthews and dare Marner to shoot and he can't. If Marner wanted to help the team and improve his game, he would take the same determination he took getting one of the highest paid RFA contracts of all-time and establish at least an an NHL average shot - but he doesn't. He just blames the media every playoffs.

Marner himself isn't a bad player, but when you factor in his contract demands, it's not worth it. If Marner is going to demand a raise (which is likely expected) I'd much rather just spend it on multiple players who score at a higher pace than 15G/82 games in the playoffs. Matthews had no problem scoring goals at an even higher pace last season with Max Domi.

Yes, playoffs is the obvious retort, and with good reason. We've seen encouraging signs from Marner every year during the regular season but you should know by now that it means nothing. Pumping this guys tires during the regular season only shows how gullible you are, best to drink your koolaid quietly.
