Marner scores first SCF natural hat trick in 38 years

Man he must of really wanted out of Toronto to be producing like he has in these playoffs being the easy favorite for the Conn Smythe Trophy right now :popcorn:
 
As a life long Leaf fan, I say good for Marner. I hope he wins everything, he deserves it. He was their best player and they lost him for nothing, due to greed and pure and utter incompetence. Half the Leaf fans thought Matthews was their best player but it was never ever true. Matthews was always second to Mitch and now it's all coming to the surface. Marner was always their #1 guy and letting him go for nothing is probably the biggest f-up of their entire history. Looks good on them. It's honestly one of, if not THE worst thing to happen to to this franchise, ever.

The silver lining for Leaf fans is that maybe this catastrophe actually shakes up this organisation up and forces them to wake the f- up

lol Marner has absolutely buried Matthews, just look at tonight. Unbelievable, congrats to Mitch. There's no comparing the two, Mitch is simply a tier above. Matthews has never even come close to any of this success in any playoff series, it's just not even up for debate.

This crest means something to him man, it's unbelievable the amount of passion he's playing with now that he's immersed in a winning culture which has commanded the respect of everyone in the NHL

Been an amazing story and he's doing his best to author the fairy tale ending

If Vegas wins the cup Marner is getting Conn Smythe. Amazing since he was ran out of town in Toronto as the weak leg vs Nylander, JT and Matthews.

Even if Hart wins the series with 2 more shutouts and Marner does zero rest of series, I dont think he'd beat Marner.

If Vegas loses the cup does that make Toronto > Vegas?

Marner would have had the playoffs of his life and they lost. Last year he lost to the Stanley Cup winners in 7 while playing poorly.

He had a 2-1 lead on the Stanley Cup winners last season also.

Nope.

Plenty of Leaf fans knew they were losing their #1 guy. It was always crystal clear that he was the best player on the team and it wasn't even close. The rest of their guys were/are a step below him and these playoffs have erased any doubt about that. The guy is simply a superstar, and the Leafs have none of those

I keep landing 60/40 with more culpability towards Toronto on that one again and again.

His whole time in the TML organization was starcrossed. To be fair, stories about him, his father, and those he surrounds himself with are not positive at all. A lot of that started with him basically a kid.

Toronto had the total combined hockey intelligence of several executive configurations chosen by MLSE.

That’s too much executive know-how to fumble a pick like that. Even if it just came down to an unmanageable kid, I don’t understand what it is that Vegas did so differently - but Toronto seemed adamant about using Marner to compliment other players, while Vegas puts Marner out there with players that all complement each other far better.

He’s a smaller defensively, gifted guy that likes to pass….put him out there with a bigger guy that likes to shoot and a two-way forward who can take over some of the defensive heavy lifting - Howden & Karlsson aren’t magic; they’re just good at their roles.

Collectively, those three are more impactful together balancing each other’s respective games than just sticking Marner with an admittedly super talented goal scorer (Matthews) and telling him to model his game after whatever’s necessary to be Matthews’ set-up man.
 
ngl, even though I don't want Vegas to win, I'm loving this.

A true playoff beast, leading the entire field by 8pts with 28pts in 19 games so far. What a gamer.

He never was the best player here. You are a victim of recency and confirmation bias.

Pretty much shows that the Leafs organization and team was/is dysfunctional. Marner thriving seems to be a good case in point.

Marner has always been better than Mattews.

Matthews being a 2 way player is the biggest lie in the NHL

the year Mattews was 2nd in Selke votes was hilarious.
He wasn't even the 2nd best defensive forward for the Leafs let alone the NHL

I think he's trolling for fun though

which is fine

I'm okay people trolling sarcastically for fun
