Marner said that?

Not that I'm pining for Lou or anything but addressing the media was done so much better when he was in charge. But you'd figure a guy like Marner if anyone would know what this town is like. He should be in a position to teach others how to handle the media instead of setting an example of how NOT to do it.

Sometimes I wonder about that boy ... oopsie, I mean man.

Yeah thats the actual quote. Article for reference:

I hadn't actually read that until now. this put a smile on my face:

• Great line by Knights coach Bruce Cassidy when a reporter began his Kessel question: “He’s a guy that doesn’t like the attention…”

Cassidy, smiling: “He doesn’t like to stretch either.”

Hehe

It is really weird this year already.. a very carefree whatever approach.. probably thinkingnhe is growing up and has figured it out.

I bet you he believes the old doesnt matter what i say they will write what i want so i will just say my bit

Mitch played like Mitch always plays .. and he is a fun guy who always has a smile on his face and tries to bring other people up (don't read anything more into his comments then that) .. in fast games like last night it is very hard for him to excel with points .. but it is next to impossible when he is playing by himself .. Matty is too far back of play .. he is using his energy to get back on defense and right now his conditioning is terrible he can't skate up ice and contribute offensively .. once Matty is back in game shape then Mitch will be fine again for his points

Mitch has that fun loving kid persona to him, which clashes in those grit grinder games where guys who are paid less than him are going through walls and sacrificing their bodies in that classic blue collar hockey sense.

You seem to think any loss is the same. It's not. We haven't played like this in a long time.

And you can't just go around putting alternate meanings to words. He said it's unacceptable. He considers it unacceptable.

My thoughts - we literally played like a$$ against Montreal, Arizona, and Dallas. Us being surprised at them playing poorly is more surprising than these guys playing poorly on a game to game basis. They just don't have the fortitude to show up for 60 minutes every game.

I'm not too worried about the comments, what I don't like is Marner isn't in game shape to start the season once again and it looks like Matthews followed his off season training regiment this year.

In your early to mid 20's you can get away with it to an extent, take 5 to 10 games to get yourself up to speed. That's not going to be the case much longer though..

Is there any way they can get together with Syd and Mac in the summer?

What does unacceptable actually mean though?

We really didn't though. I get people being disappointed about not living up to our potential, but that mixed with a lot of early season rust leading to struggles with finish and execution of plays/passes and at times disjointed-looking play has resulted in a lot of wild exaggerations about how we played overall relative to the other teams in those games.

Should we have done better against those teams, especially considering the quality of opponent? Yeah. But we still should have won most if not all of them. This game, we just straight up sucked, in a way we haven't in a while. That was the worst 5v5 defensive performance for this team in almost 4 years.

He has been like that since he was 6 man .. he can LOL in dressing room and crack his team mates up minutes after a tough loss .. not many, including me, have that persona

Yes it is. Hockey isn’t big their but the media attention Lakers/Lebron get not just in LA but across the states is bigger than Toronto. Dallas is constantly criticized not just in the market but across the United States. Hockey is small attention compared to NFL and NBA.

I’m a laker fan and watch ESPN/Fox heavily. Those markets get talked about more, but the media they face in scrums are not nearly as bad as Toronto. Also they don’t face the same scrutiny. People love the lakers in LA even if they suck. They are not nearly as polarizing. The only player who gets the same hate is Westbrook. But it’s deserved, he’s an ass, bad teammate and legit sucks. Marner/Tavares are neither and get same amount of hate or even greater. Cowboys are the most popular team in the NFL

I guess we'll agree to disagree. I don't care that AM and MM aren't scoring - we're clearly - obviously - both playing down (or not at all) to opponents, and we're at the same time not showing up for long stretches of games. I say this only because the warning signs are all over the wall that this will continue, and we (collectively) should not be surprised when it does. It is about the least surprising thing I've seen so far this year that we turned out a performance of that magnitude last night given the trend this team has demonstrated of regressing to the mean. I don't mean to sound so debbie downer, but moreso than in years past I feel like this is just what it is with these guys.

Yeah, of course. And like I’ve been saying since the Montreal series meltdown. It’s important not to hitch the Leaf come up narrative to the Marner maturity story. It’s a balance between harnessing his productivity but not letting that fun loving kid persona become the character of the team. Accept him, protect him but his personality shouldn’t be the team’s.

I don't see any reason to believe this will continue. There's a big difference between this game and the normal ups and downs that we and all teams experience. If we're going to be informed by history, there's every reason to believe this horrible game to be a blip and we'll go back to being the excellent team we've been for years.

Yes, unacceptable means not acceptable. So how will this team respond by not accepting this kind of effort level?

Yesterday wasn’t a once in 4 year occurrence either.

Uhhh LA is ruthless vs the Lakers. Look at Russell Westbrook.

the excellent regular season team, you mean.

I expect that we'll respond with one of the good performances that we normally have, or better, instead of an extremely, extremely rare performance like last night again.

The excellent team.

I always liked Marner but the more I hear him speak he comes off as spoiled and entitled.

But I don’t need to like him personally, just want him to stfu and play hard.
