As the low ride rises on the villages and the barn of mayors greets no one without going through the Apostle. While there may be 8 deadly sins there are 16 chapters in the book of Marnier and the end shall come to all those with ice cream smirnovs. DIGIT

doubt it. I think they will trade Nylander before Marner.
This would be a dangerous move. Marner is not alot better than Nylander at this point but their contracts are very different. Leafs have depleted their depth to keep Marner, Matthews, Tavares as the core but have only regressed as a team. This is either bad coaching or a bad core, or bad cap management or all the above.

Thinking the coach and gm may be next though.

with no Tavares he still gets his points like he always has

He WILL prove it?!!! That's gold.... nice choice of words "will prove it".

When does he run out of chances to "prove it"? This is a serious question...when are we permitted to be critical?
I recently watched an interview with Gretzky and McDavid… (who got swept in 4 games last playoffs, what a bust. Trade him for a bag of pucks:rolleyes:). Gretzky told McDavid that “he WILL win a Stanley cup. He’s too good not to.”

Marner is not McDavid. But he’s been over a point per game for long enough that I’m confident he’s going to make a fool out of you.

But by all means… be critical. Cheer against him in the playoffs for all I care. Some of you fans would rather lose then be wrong and its disgusting.

That is your reasoning? He will make a fool of me because he is over a point per game.... and because Gretzky told the best player in the game that he will win a cup because he is too good not to?

I really think Gretzky was talking about the Canada Cup or the World Cup of Hockey.

He did quite well on the 3rd. line in his rookie season no?

Maybe just drop the top 6 strategy and give him his own line.

Tavares can play with anyone, he did for the Islanders.
I agree ULF, I think it's time to try to get more balance on all lines. I think this will create matchup difficulties for the opponent, I think it will create inner competition for our top players, I think it will give the rest of the roster a feeling of more purpose and I think it will eliminate the mindset of our best players that they should be putting up 2 points a night like McDavid line.

I really think Keefes way of coaching is way too focused in the top 5 guys on this team and there seems to be no "in this together" feeling about the mentality of this team. Keefe putting out Marner/matthews/Tavares as a line sometimes, or when he puts out matthews line and then Tavares line for 4 consecutive shifts cannot be a greatest age to the bottom six guys. Our top 6 isn't gonna win us a Stanley Cup... we need the entire team to buy in and feel like they are part of this team. I want to see other guys carve out roles and find purpose. I've noticed that nobody seems to be developing under Keefe... and I think it's because he's so focused on the top guys and the leash is so short for the other guys. I also think the problems dermott and Engvall have had are partially because of his coaching.... the right to swing back when your not seeing anything, opposed to just getting it deep"...etc.

This is why I have no faith in this team ever figuring it out with Keefe, in comparison to the successful teams....this team right now Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander and the rest of the guys. The message for awhile seems to have been how much did these guys produce, how did they do? It's not how did the team play?

So yes I agree, I want to see three or even four lines rolled for better or for worse roll with them and get everyone involved and feeling important.

I heard reports that marner would have signed at a 8.5 mil caphit after his second season but dubas wanted to wait. Another fantastic move by dubie.

I’d love to have that confirmed.

Even that was overpay money at that time.

If the team was always going to double down on Marner he should have been signed as early as possible.

The only contract worth giving Marner was a bridge. A GM that was focussed on winning would not overpay Marner. Especially after every star possible aligned for Marner just before the deal.

It was plain as day to know that it wasn’t time to lock in Marner.

But Dubas doesn’t care about winning that much. He enjoys being a player’s GM. NHLPA GM.

Nobody “hates” Marner.

It’s not a personal thing.

He’s a player on our team: The Leafs.

I’ve been watching games before his parents got to grade 9. From MY perspective, Mitch is a guest on my team. A team I’ve watched for twice as long as his entire life. A team I loved to watch over the Christmas holidays at Christmas parties at my gramma’s house. With my uncles and cousins.

The issue is his greedy contract and contract negotiations. And the gutless newbie GM that signed overpay deals players will never live up to.

The greed is what people don’t like.

Yeah those 4 guys are good, but not sure how optimistic I can be about 4 guys being to outplay 4 lines on opposing teams during a two month playoff grind.

Agree with your premise whole heartedly .. but keep in mind Leafs used to be/likely still are a CASH cow for their owners .. back in da day when I was at KMPG we had da Leafs account .. da seat revenue was small compared to da sponsorship revenue .. everyone including players/agents/parents etc associated around team all know .. no one else in league even remotely close .. leafs could triple salaries and make massive profits .. sponsorship $$$ go to arena account (same as Raps) and not part of what players get in CAP YET .. da CAP really hurts Leafs cause players want their piece of pie and negotiations are much much more difficult than any other team .. so they put a guy making hundreds of thousands to negotiate between millionaires and billionaires .. it truly is a difficult task and much harder than most understand .. you really need a hard *ss in that role to make it work .. Dubie is everyone's friend wrong guy .. da Leafs can't say, like Tampa owner says, that all hockey $$$ will go back into da team every cent but he won't fund a nickel from his pocket .. Larry takes out a LOT .. and he does not need it at all .. so there is so much GREED both ways because da POT is massive .. I think only way it changes is if POT gets reduced .. but hard to see that occurring

The playoffs.
Where a 4 million player can be worth 10 million and a 10 million can be worth 2.

What’s the margin of difference in the playoffs between an 8 million Aho and 11 million player?

It’s about a complete team, balance, 4 quality lines and hard to play against. Do we represent this?

And desire.

Desire to work hard for your buddies on the team. FOLLOW the strong leadership by key players.

Sparks said the truth, the team doesn't have it. And he never played again.

It's hard to build a winning hockey atmosphere, even harder in Toronto. I'm see the end game is Matthews gets traded and the entire management team goes.

Ideally something else happens.

Please tell me there is a chance.
