Agreed! I can't figure out how the NFL got it implemented

Weakest union is sport

Pretty much what ACC1224 said, very weak union and players also no alternative for players.
I know KHL and other Euro leagues don’t pay as much as NHL but at the very least, they still pay pretty good wages comparing to average people. While there is just no other football league, I know some will say what about CFL and XFL….but those two are not comparable.

Damn, havnt read the thread for a bit but a couple of you guys really pulled one out here, I'm almost convinced.

Thought you guys were flailing about looking foolish but just when I started to lose hope, BAM......I had no idea that using Sparks as the catalyst in an "argument from authority" on what it takes to win in the NHL would be so effective.

I always thought he was just a tool that stuck his foot in his mouth and never got another shot again but damn, he was really talking about Marner this whole time and he was obviously right. Please take this and run with it. A winning strategy if I've ever seen one.

I do wish however that every sport would adapt the NFL agreement. You can guarantee a contract but for the most part you only get a small portion,, and have to earn the rest and can be released anytime

In an ideal world I'd like that to happen in the NHL BUT as a compromise the league shortens ELC to 2 years and RFA to 2 years. So guys could hit ufa by like 22 or 23.

We'd see so much more player movement. Will never happen though.

If that’s the case, owners won’t go for it.
I think overall, as much as I hate the cap, it saves the league.
What I like to see is some sort of luxury tax or teams can acquire cap space and draft picks for money, as long as the team paying them are in the black.

the old story.

the known vs the unknown.

traditionalists would say you bet on the known.

But I've learned millennials think they know better than all prior generations, so I would suspect many would agree with paying for a "hope" vs a "known".

as for my thoughts, I absolutely hate minny mouse marner, but can learn to love NHL hockey player Mitch Marner. I guess it's up to him to determine which path he takes.

millennials definitely know more than previous generations. access to information is at an all time high.. its evolution... you think you know more than people in 1850? probably right?

hot tip: be willing to adapt in life. it's not that hard to change your opinion.... ....

Pretty strange to hate someone you don't personally know or have even met.

Information isnt knowledge unless it is true or useful.
I'd say that millenials have the potential to know more and some do but a pretty coddled generation that orders its food clothes and mates via an app creates a faux impression of any real useful application of competence.

Sure, there’s a lot of great information available, but there’s also a lot of bad information, and even some fake information. If you can’t sort through the bull crap, you’re actually less informed.

Big difference between having access to information and being able to absorb it and understand it.

hot tip: change is only good if it’s for the better

Apparently it is.
I mean you are asking us to expect a different result right? Doing the same thing essentially?

It’s different.

We lost Hyman, and have replacements not filling his role.

Hyman was a great left winger on this team.

Next time folks are fretting over "bad" contracts, imagine this:

Gallagher: 6 yrs/$6.5M
Anderson: 6 yrs/$5.5M
Dvorak: 4 yrs/$4.45M
Toffoli: 3yrs/$4.25M
Armia: 4yrs/$3.4M
Petry: 4yrs/$6.25M
Savard: 4yrs/$3.5M
Price: 5yrs/$10.5M
Joel E: 3yrs/$3.5M
Weber 5 yrs/$7.8M

Yep that's one genius super-depth GM of the year candidate that's going to be icing a bottom feeder while being way over the cap.

And the other genius super-depth GM of the year candidate, Lou, is off to a pretty scary start as well.

As a Leaf fan I'm not really concerned about other teams situation. It doesn't make the Leafs cap bind any better.

right! Those contracts are ugly, even at below market value. Only ones I’d take are Dvorak and Toffoli

They've gone farther than the Leafs have and don't have $40 mill tied up in players who don't show up in the playoffs. Well Nylander did.....

Yet somehow we couldn't get past this team with 10 bad contracts.

Also Toffoli is totally worth what he's making, as is Price when he's healthy.
