That is your reasoning? He will make a fool of me because he is over a point per game.... and because Gretzky told the best player in the game that he will win a cup because he is too good not to?
Mitch marner has more playoff points than Connor McDavid. Go hate on McDavid, he’s an oiler. Mitch is a leaf, show him love.

Or go cheer for the oilers. Cuz it’s gonna be awful hard for you Marner haters to be leaf fans.

Context please.
Marner has played more games. 32 vs. 21.
McDavid is 1.00 PPG and Marner is .8

Now our playoff failure doesn’t lie with one Mitch Marner, its hardly the fault of one player, it’s a sum of the core and Dubas depth building/salary structure.
Until something above changes, it might be more if the same.

And desire.

Desire to work hard for your buddies on the team. FOLLOW the strong leadership by key players.

Sparks said the truth, the team doesn't have it. And he never played again.

It's hard to build a winning hockey atmosphere, even harder in Toronto. I'm see the end game is Matthews gets traded and the entire management team goes.

Ideally something else happens.

Please tell me there is a chance.

When and how exactly did he say that?

He always looks great when games are fun and the opposing team isn't motivated to shut him down. Once teams decide to battle, marner will revert back to self preservation. He doesn't know how to play when the games get physical

Marner is a great player but is overpaid and has yet to find that extra gear in the playoffs. Until he does that he will always get dogged no matter where he plays or what he does in the regular season.

Oilers cant even make the playoffs. Trade mcdavid and rebuild.

Leafs cant make it out of the first round. Trade marner and rebuild.

The context is perfect.

I guess there is at least some truth to the saying, be careful what you wish/ask for.
Seems sad to be paying someone $11 million when they’re still trying to figure it out.

I would rather pay 11 million on the hope he figures it out than pay 11 million for something someone once did.

The constant ovetpayment of UFA's for days gone by is a bigger issue. At least Marner can still get to where his contract is acceptable.

False (well sort of). This happens in the playoffs because he's burned out by then. So yes it's conditionally true.

Marner says it straight up in his off season interview he needs to get stronger and faster to handle the minutes however I think we finally see Keefe be smarter with the ice time this year. It's ridiculous to have this guy average 24 minutes a night.

Marner has never disappeared in physical games otherwise. I have no idea how you come to this conclusion. There doesn't exist a team in the league who doesn't throw defensive plays at Marners lines, yet he racks up points all season long. The NHL regular season isn't playoffs, but its no walk in the park either. If what you're saying is true Marner wouldn't be a star today.

I say this every year, the guy was born to put up points and can do it in his sleep. Use him properly and he won't disappoint.

He is a great playmaker and should thrive on a line with two snipers (Spezza Nylander? Matthews Spezza?). One ugly goal sniper and one clean sniper. He should fake shots 9 out of ten times and then shock everybody with a goal the tenth time.
Anyway nothing to talk about or worry about.

He didn't. He made different comments after a loss behind a very different team almost 3 years ago, after putting up an 0.864 SV%. And he very much did play after that; only being replaced by a superior, previously acquired Hutchinson as the playoffs were starting, and Sparks was dealing with stuff, mentally and physically.

I agree in regards to not paying someone based on past performances. My main issue is with how Dubas has constructed this team, as well as paying a winger what you would pay a #1 center.
If this team can somehow get past the 1st round and make a serious run, then I will be the first to admit I was wrong and Dubas was right.

the old story.

the known vs the unknown.

traditionalists would say you bet on the known.

But I've learned millennials think they know better than all prior generations, so I would suspect many would agree with paying for a "hope" vs a "known".

as for my thoughts, I absolutely hate minny mouse marner, but can learn to love NHL hockey player Mitch Marner. I guess it's up to him to determine which path he takes.

I Think we need mariner on this team regardless of his contract.
I can't imagine that second line if it had another Engvall level player on it, we'd never get secondary scoring.

I am not a millenial but have watched it work in every sport outside of hockey.

I do wish however that every sport would adapt the NFL agreement. You can guarantee a contract but for the most part you only get a small portion,, and have to earn the rest and can be released anytime
