I think you people need to relax. Mitch Marner is a great player no doubt, but we’ve all seen enough things with him that are major red flags and ones that don’t help us win. A good five game stretch doesn’t change that. We know he’s going to get his points, he’s paid a top five salary in the league to do that, but nothing this season matters until the playoffs, and that is where Marner truly chokes. To be honest, I’d trade this guy in a heartbeat for a number one defenseman. It would go a long way into helping us win. I’d rather win a cup than have a 95 point winger who folds in the playoffs.

Dubas could have drafted a D like Werenski. His cap hit is a lot less than Marner so you could add a piece.

With no Tavares, Marner never gets a huge number of points, and his cap hit is way less.

There have been threads, but we should keep in mind the tiers these guys are in, there are the double digits and then the guy at 7.

And all the players have to play their best, not just marner.

With great reward comes great expectation.

fair enough, we need them to set examples. Nylander can have games of being the best player on the ice. Same goes for Tavares
Similarly, Ritchie should look like a 2nd line winger every 5-10 games just like how engvall looks like a 3rd line winger every 5 games.

Marner has been good the last five games, so I’m not too worried about him. It’s nylander and Matthews, they don’t seem to have much chemistry or finish. I’ve said it before but I don’t think they have a 5 v 5 point together. If this continues for a few more games, I’d suggest three lines with nylander on the third with kerfoot as they have chemistry and this gives us 3 scoring lines.

Level of kate lowering. Marner needs a change of scenery. I was happy we drafted him. Preferred when he ran shotgun with Bozak and JVR. He has Kapanen written all over him. Can't stand his attitude and that's not going to change.

Marner will have more ups than downs when it comes to regular season and in the end, I still see him as a guy who can score at a PPG + clip in a season regularly. But my gripe with him has been his past 3 years of sub par playoff performance and judging by his constant puck over glass penalty during those past 3 playoff series, I believe the problem is largely mentally and its frustrating watching these unfold after he demanded about 2 mill more than his worth.

There was a recent thread about JT where I said he looked cooked and he quickly turned it around. Honestly everyone gets criticism, but the person who seems to get by with less is Matthews. It makes sense. He might be the best player this franchise has ever had. Our 1st overall stud center. Still, he has looked bad to non existent at times but doesn't receive the same vitriol as Mitch.

Marner is very fortunate Matthews and Tavares can carry him when he's off which is majority of the time. They usually do a lot of the tough work anyways.

Marner doesn't disappear in the playoffs. If you don't bother to watch the games, just look at his scoring 25 points in 32 games. He should be better, but hasn't disappeared.

I am not defending him against the Kings bc he was bad but so was the whole team.

maybe Eichel and Stone will have conflict in Vegas and it ends up trading Marner for Stone plus in the off season, lol.

he didn't play with JT the last 2 yrs and produced while Johnny had to have constant excuses made for his declining production

he played with neither JT or AM in his 2nd season here and still paced at a 90pt pace the last half of the season

he was the best player on the Knights with no other future stars , ripped it up and led them to a Mem cup win while the immortal JT constantly shit the bed trying to lead a team anywhere

also , why is it that some fans believe the player who has the puck on his stick constantly is the passenger on the line ? it's like some believe the puck just magically appears out of thin air for JT and AM in a prime scoring spot

and while AM is able to turn a nothing play into a goal JT can't and this idea that JT elevates Marner is pure f***ing non sense
