Marner is the real deal Hollyfield. But how could you pass up on a #1 D? I'd have to think real hard if i were Lou.

I commend the OP on a good point of discussion.

I'd give Ehlers or Connor from the Jets for Lindholm, easily. I'm surprised any Leaf fans are saying no to this. I don't think Marner is on another tier than those guys.

i love jets prospects, top 3 pool for sure but Ehlers is no way near Marner tier..we'll see about Connor i'm intrigued by that kid

Would Buffalo be idiots to not trade Eichel for Lindholm? How about McDavid for Lindholm? Marner was drafted right after those guys.

Leafs stick with Marner, no question.

McDavid is considered a generation talent and had 48 points in 45 games right out of his draft and has 6 points in 3 games so far this season. Comparing Marner to McDavid :shakehead

Eichel had 56 points in 81 games with the Sabres right out of the draft and he is considered to have more potential then Marner he is comparable to Matthews based on those two potential.

Great idea, but little to no interest from either side. Marner has yet to show enough to be worth Lindholm, yet his upside is to high for the leafs to consider trading him away at this point.

Either side says no, both sides are still friends.

Bingo!!

So receiving a 22 year-old #1 D is getting bitten in the ass? lol ok then..

My post obviously went way above your head, because I didn't say anything close to that.

Let me put it more simple.

Leafs aren't trading Mitch Marner.

Hopefully you'll understand that.

I don't know what ducks fans expect, I mean, they are literally comparing Marner to Gretzky on their board.

You wouldn't trade Lindholm for gretzky, would you? Of course not.

Lindholm is a total stud but at this point Leafs hang onto Marner to see exactly what they have. He's looked unreal in the small sample this season, plus pedigree etc, huge disparity in salaries (once Lindholm agrees to terms, not sure this could work cap wise). Make no mistake this is the kind of return Lindholm woud take and neither side would be laughing should talks center around these two but ultimately both teams abstain.

I think only one or two are and as far as I've read are comparing him to stylistically in nature, not talent level/expected production etc....fanbases love throwing out ridiculous "stylistic" comparisons, the Leafs aren't unique in this realm. He reminds me of Giroux more than anyone else honestly and G is an incredible player.

The moral of this story is fans love their shiny new toys, and are incapable of objectiveness. Thats it.

Mitch Marner is going to be every bit as good of a player as Matthews. Marner is as untouchable as Matthews. Nylander I could make a case for but I like some of the kids the Leafs have in the system (Neilson, Dermott) and have 0 interest in moving Nylander because the leafs D could sort its self out from with in.

2 Years from now

Rielly / Neilson

Dermott / Z

Gards / Carrick

Marcinin

This is all the more reason the Leafs do this trade. Lindholm is better than anyone listed pretty easily.

I don't know why people even waste their time with these threads, there is no universe in which Marner is going to be traded.

Lindholm would be huge for the Leafs' blueline, but the Leafs aren't giving up Marner. Many including myself believe he'll be the better player in 3 years.

You really think your GM wouldn't even consider it for Hampus Lindholm?

Really?

I get that the shiny new toy is exciting, but not being willing to move your toy for a potential #1 defenseman is a bit much. To suggest you guys wouldn't even consider it, for one of the best young defensemen in the game, well, that does come across as overhyping said toy.

And Marner destroyed junior, winning everything there was to win, and is looking exceptionally good in the time he's played for the Leafs, at times playing better than Auston Matthews. People here are writing him off without seeing what he can do at the NHL level. The dust hasn't settled from the draft yet, Marner could be as good or better than Eichel, yet people have drawn some kind of arbitrary line and call people stupid if they don't have the same arbitrary line drawn.

Do we send Mark Hunter with him? Marner is the company boy, the identity of the Leafs rebuild and the only hope of an Ontario superstar in Toronto. Nylander for Hampus, ok, fair deal but Marner is off limit. Bicker the value all you want Marner is as untouchable to the Leafs as they come.

They're comparing Marner's style of play to Gretzky, while putting qualifiers in front of it saying that Marner isn't on the level of Gretzky. You're being intentionally obtuse and are trying to make Leaf fans look bad. You're pathetic.

And some people are comparing him to Patrick Kane after 2 NHL games

The fact your trying to defending Maple Leafs laughing at trading him for Lindholm and comparing him to McDavid and Eichel is enough to know that this won't lead to anything good so I am done with this nonsense.
