The truth about Marner is, he's exactly this good to keep playing like this bad in the playoffs.

He hasn't shown superstardom in the playoffs a single time at any point.

Nylander has the same points and more goals without playing with Matthews or PP1 time. Marner is also a classic stat padder. Wow he showed up big in Tampa game 2 T_T.

Time for someone to post those pictures reminding everyone that Marner is a 1st team all-star. Any time I dared to question the narrative that Marner is the best winger in the league and 1st team all-star proves it (even though it doesn't consider playoffs), one poster here always posted that pic as if that's conclusive proof that Marner is the best, must have posted that here a dozen time by now. I wonder if that poster is beginning to understand that 1st team all-star doesn't prove dick, not for people who think playoffs count and want to win the cup some day. Anyhow, if you are going to post that pic again, better do it quick before they give it to someone else for this season.

Seriously though, those posts always made me cringe. All this bragging about Marner for regular season this and that, who cares. Gotta get it done in the playoffs or it's just so much noise.

There's still lots of hockey left to be played. Hoping Marner has a big night Sunday to lead the team to victory. There's still plenty of time to re-write the narratives and how people view you as a hockey player could swing dramatically based on how you play for the rest of the games this team has left in these playoffs. Come on Mitch, show us what you've got. Whatever you have as a player, better bring it in game 3.

GLG!!

I've given up expecting Draisaitl level impact from Marner in the playoffs.

Leaning towards wanting to swap him for a cheaper star in his age group. Regular season is so bogus. Teams stop trying halfway through the season the playoffs are set for at least 6 teams per conference by xmas.

Amazing that he's still leading the Team in points.

He’s been awful

All chances, zero finish, just like the rest of the stars

Rewatching that third goal, that’s a terrible play by him, get the damn puck out

He’s been insanely perimeter too, allergic to going near the blue paint

Marner deserves 99 % blame on the game winning goal.

Holy crap he acts like an 8 year old scared of the puck. Carry it out of the zone or chip it out. Instead he does a shitty pass to Matthews lmao.
Matthews completely fumbled it. You are blaming Marner for Matthews getting the puck taken away? What a joke. You realize there is video?

Yes it's entirely Marner's fault? Why is he passing at all in that situation when he has free real estate?

Chip or skate. Pass to Matthews is the -99 IQ play.
Why didnt matthews chip and skate when he had daylight, unlike Marner

That was a stupid play to make regardless. Just make the simple play there you are behind your own blue line.
They make those kinds of passes to each other about 10x a game for God sakes

Are you blind or just have Marner googles?

Instead of skating he slows down like an idiot and does a backwards pass to Matthews?

I just watched the video just to be 100% sure and the commentary on the broadcast nailed it - "Marner's got an opportunity to get it out and instead, a risky play just inside your own line". That says it all, when you're almost out of your zone, that is NOT the time to make a drop pass behind you, that's hockey.101.

The only joke around here is your posts. You and your small posse of fanboys can never seem to admit that Marner ever does anything dumb. He's a smart player, no doubt about it but you and your boys also went way overboard taking that Cooper quote as gospel truth, and interpreting his words as meaning that Marner is the smartest player in hockey history. Get a grip.

Marner stans are hilarious. He's been an absolute joker this entire playoffs.

Points don't mean anything, dominance does.

Marner's entire playoffs "dominance" this year doesn't equal Nylander's game period 3 in 5 on 5. Wow he put up a bunch of points when we got blown out by Tampa and when we blew up Tampa. Then he had some shots from the point that got tipped or lucky.

SOOOOOOOOOO DOMINANT GUYS. You can really tell how Marner is a better player than Drai, Mcdavid or Tkachuk based on point totals.

So you Leaf Bandwagoners who watch jack shit during the year, come to post on a forum as an expert about the Leafs during the playoffs. What an absolute authority you are.

I and many people watched that play in real time...as soon as I saw the drop pass, I was already thinking 'no, what the heck is Marner doing making that pass'? And bam, Panthers score! It's a freakin' facepalm moment. That pass cannot happen, especially in the playoffs...they have been taught since they were kids to not make those kinds of plays. That was boneheaded and a momentum killer, and Leafs never recovered in the game after that.

I am shocked this is a debate that entire play was on Marner. Matthews could have done better but I am sure he was not expecting that puck there (why would he). Marner has been deferring all series nothing new here. It's like watching hot potato with him he doesn't want the puck.

Imagine thinking it's possible for the leafs to have any bandwagon fans after the last 20 years lmao.

why are you such a gatekeeper? maybe you should sign up for being a reddit mod.

Anyways, I watched NJ lose in OT the last game of the season without Brodeur, to keep the Leafs out of the playoffs in like 2005 thank you very much.

Agree 100%. Everyone makes mistakes, and not every mistake has to end up in the back of the net but still, you expect better from Marner who's supposed to be such a smart player and for him to do that at that moment is a huge disappointment. It's not just that it's the playoffs, but it's down 1-0 in games, the opposition just tied the score a few seconds earlier FFS, if there ever was a time to NOT f*** around in your own zone, that was it.

Yeah fairly common play for this team, they do it many times a game.
Matthews has to be better there.

Nylander has been the best player in the playoffs in the last 6 years.

Marner has been.

I got nothing against nylander hes great and amazing to watch when on

But hes like the 4th best leaf player in the playoffs these past 6 years

16, 34, 44 in any order come ahead then hes 4th

Nylander, kadri, and Andersen's choking tendencies are the reason we don't have a 2019 series win vs Boston

Absolutely, it was a terrible decision by Marner followed by a bad decision by Matthews. However, it isn't just them doing that.. failing to clear their zone when they gain possession or turning it over just inside the other team's blueline for odd man rushes is a normal play for this team.

The question is: why do they as a group refuse to stop doing it????
