Well deserved Selke Finalist, should win but I imagine it goes to Bergeron on reputation.

Wonder how many Hart votes Marner receives?

I missed most of the game as I was on the road but what the heck is he doing here? Brutal.
I was watching and I was like WTF was that? Then I realized it wasn't nearly as bad is looked, game is played at such a high speed, can't always make the right move, he didn't realize the situation at that moment, happens all the time. And even if he did realize he could have gone straight to the net, he was at a bad angle, on his backhand, the D was there in an instant, not likely he could have scored there anyway. JMHO.

I'm more interested to see how many Conn Smythe votes he gets. Come on Mitch, help the team get to the finals, we need you at your absolute best tomorrow.

GLG!!

He was good, but not great to his standards, which speaks volumes on how good he is yet ppl on this forum treat him like he's drouin
People are acting like he makes 13.38% of the cap and are also taking into account he's been inadequate for all the playoffs he's taken up this valuable cap space.

Marner just needs to shoot more often. He's 10x more dangerous offensively when the opposition can't cheat towards the pass. He needs to simplify and stop trying to force plays that aren't there.

Whenever Marner is in the mood to shoot both the goals and assists pile up shortly thereafter.

That said, he had a strong first series against Tampa and I'm sure he'll get it going this series too. At least he still adds value without the puck, unlike some of our other players *cough* Nylander.

Wingers play a position that has less defensive impact, so it’s very difficult for them to truly deserve the Selke.
I'd say Stone had a proper claim in at least 1 of the 5 years he was nominated. It's weird because the award was originally created for a winger.

It's pretty impressive how much Marner impacts the game defensively as a winger. I don't think he'll win because as a winger he doesn't carry the same defensive responsibility as a centre but what he does out there is best of the best as a winger.

Marner is great on the PK and with his anticipation and takeaways etc. but lets be real. The Selke is a reputation award.
They all kind of are including Con Smythe. Kane among a few, didnt really deserve his.
edit
other than the rocket

He was excellent against Tampa.
Well, maybe not stand out, but Nylander looked dangerous trying to create offence many times last night whereas Marner was by comparison, invisible.

Go on, I'm listening.

He didn't play with any pace and wasn't a consistent offensive threat throughout the series. For large chucks of the time he was hemmed in his own zone and not moving his feet through the neutral zone. His point totals were very flattering based on the impact he had on a game by game basis.

If the Leafs are going to win they need Marner to be creating multiple scoring chances a period. Playoffs swing so much momentum shift by shift, he needs to create that momentum. Matthews to a large degree was doing this by himself when they were on the ice together.

Great to have Marner be a Selke finalist. However, while he's undoubtedly the best of the lot offensively, I unfortunately don't imagine that being enough to propel him to victory in this competition.

You should be telling me you agree, because he was undeniably good in the 1st round against Tampa.
4 years of 10.6 mill per year and he has been bad to good, nothing beyond.

He has 4 assists dating back 12 elimination games.

Pretty low bar set for a player making 13% of the cap.

I agree his point totals were very flattering and he was nowhere near as good as those number would suggest. I still think he played quite well overall, but was very disappointed in his play last night. Whatever, I'm giving him a pass for last night but at that cap hit, you don't get many passes so let's hope he's a lot better tomorrow!

Pretty amazing first round. Crazy, elite numbers.
