I didn’t vote for him either, have to say Morgs or Sam. That said he had a great series, he and Matthews were their man focus to shut down and they fought through a ton and gave up nothing the other way. They did their jobs and then some.
Fair enough. I'm not even saying that Marner deserves to get picked ahead of Rielly, just surprised that the margin is so wide. But that's just me, none of it matters, I'm just so damn happy that Sammy won it for us last night. I also think TB at 72% deservetowinameter is too much, I think we played better than that but whatever.

Go Panthers!

The biggest asset is his ability to read the ice. On the game’s winning goal last night you can see him in the slot. He is waiting for a pass from tavares but you can see he notices Reilly in the front of the net and he drops back to reillys defense spot. He is so tuned in to playing as good as defense as offense. People that slag on him dont know anything about hockey

This is why people that know hockey, like coaches and players-not guys in basements with cats-understand his influence and hold him in such hugh regard. Look at Cooper with Mitch in the line last night, he gets what he did this series. Nobody slags him, at least nobody that matters.

Said it back then and it's still true now. Marner should've been the #2 pick. He's better than Eichel and always has been.
You're not the only one, @diceman934 has been yelling this from the rooftops quite loudly since day one. It looked like it was close for a while there but in a re-draft, I doubt anyone would take Eichel second. Rantanen's the only other guy that merits consideration, I guess him and Marner would go 2/3 in whatever order depending on who's drafting.

What I'm hoping is that we can revisit this 5 years from now and agree that Samsonov should have been picked in the top 5. ;)

Did you use another name back then?
I did some heavy tire pumping back then, including saying he was better than Eichel...... many laughed.

Yes you did...there were not many who did.

Not many at all. In fact many people wanted Dylan Strome first and were disappointed when the Coyotes took him ahead of Marner. And then there was Hanifin, which he too had a good sized group of people clamoring for him as well.

If I was to take a time machine back to 2015 - I'd call anyone taking Marner ahead of Eichel clinically insane. Marner > Eichel is a very good call to anyone who legitimately made that.

I wouldn't go that far. Maybe put them under observation for a while. ;)

Not agreeing or disagreeing, Hard to compare in reality. If Buffalo drafts Marner, what does he turn into? Marner is extremely talented, but sometimes situation matters.

So keeping it real, this is almost Gilmouresque. When’s the last time we saw a Leaf who was one of the best offensive players and a legit top defensively? It’s truly incredible. Now just win a cup kid :)

The numbers Marner is going to put up during his Leafs career… will likely land him as #1 Best Maple Leaf ever.

If he can win a Championship or two… who knows where he will rank among the Greats.
