Thank god Marner is with JT. Line won't be embarrassed defensively and has good potential on offense. If Cirelli get matched up against Matthews, Marner will get to eat. If they are matched up against Marner, Matthews gets to eat. End of the day the Toronto Maple Leafs get to eat and hopefully move on to round two.

Marner is great defensively, but he's struggled to create offense any closer than 55' from the goalie. Outside of the 3rd goal in a 7-3 blow out. Might be a good idea to stack Nylander, Tavares, Marner on a line...Nylanders speed pushes Tampas defense back.

Bunting Matthews Jarnkok
Nylander Tavares Marner
Knies Oreilly Kerfoot/Acciari
ZAR Kampf Kerfoot/Acciari

Here is where Marner ranks among Leafs forwards for on ice impact at ES:

Shots for: 1st for totals, 4th/60
Scoring Chances for: 2nd for totals, 3rd/60
High Danger Chances for: tied for 3rd for totals, 9th/60
xGoals for: 1st for totals, 5th/60
Goals: 1st for totals, 2nd/60

High Danger rate would be the thing to look at to support your argument here.

Getting to the lines, Keefe appears to be less worried about forward ES matchups against the Point line and more about making sure McCabe and/or Brodie is out there against them,

As far as forwards go there are 6 forwards between around 17-19 minutes against Point so far and Marner is one of them.

Marner's numbers against Point at even strength so far:

TOI: 17:13
Corsi: 64.86% (24-13 Marner)
Shots: 60.00% (12-8 Marner)
Scoring Chances: 68.75% (11-5 Marner)
High Danger Chances: 100.00% (5-0 Marner)
xGF%: 68.92% (Highest xGF% of any forward against Point)
GF%: 100.00% (2-0 Marner)
Appreciate you discussing the stats. Are these stats you posted individual measuremments?

Looking at Natural Hat trick, Marner ranks low in all these individual stats (posted below), while elite players on other team's rank high in these categories. Is there a reason why Marner ranks so low in these stats but other of the leagues best are high?

goals creates (ixG)
Nylander 1.25,

10 closeout games, 0 goals, 4 assists, 10 losses. Would be awesome to see a Marner hattrick tonight (goal, assist and a win).

GLG!!

He's pot committed at this point I think but who knows.

I hope Marner puts on a performance tonight that has him reconsidering his views.
LMAO. Not only pot committed, seems like he's been all in for years now. I think we'd all love nothing more than to see Marner put on a show tonight, here's hoping!

GLG!!

You hope? Alot of confidence that you have. 10 elimination games and he's been invisible, in fact the oppositions gwg have come from bad plays by Marner. But hey... Apparently I'm committed to "thinking" he's not been good enough. It's not because the stats and highlights show he's been incredibly ineffective in important games.

..... Your two posts are contradicting themselves... You realize that?

Your reading comprehension skills are lacking.

Lol... Can't explain yourself huh? Or do you think the "I know you are but what am I game" works for adults?
I could explain myself, but it would be a waste of time as intellectual honesty is not your thing and you've proven yourself to not be the type to listen. Oh yeah, reading comprehension not being your strong suit is another reason.

Because not only are your numbers wrong, you took somebody who's primary job is to set other players up for great shots and chances and compared them to specific players who take those shots and chances, based exclusively on underlying metrics that only credit players that take the shots and chances, and completely ignores playmaking.

Top plus minus for the playoffs, wasn’t in for a goal. Sometimes conservative offensively, but to play that many minutes and surrender nothing, really solidified fact he deserved to be in Selke conversation. 200 ft playoff player, check!

Impressive!

I just said it in the series MVP thread, I find it odd that after about 180 people have voted for the series MVP, only 1 has voted for Marner. I mean Sammy would get my vote but Rielly with over 100 votes and Marner with just 1 is very strange.

I didn’t vote for him either, have to say Morgs or Sam. That said he had a great series, he and Matthews were their man focus to shut down and they fought through a ton and gave up nothing the other way. They did their jobs and then some.
