Tribute Marner Appreciation Thread

Marner ties franchise record. Top forward on team. 1st team all star 2 years in a row. Generating enough chances to actually understate his performance but let's save time on this tribute thread among the clowns.
.....but but playoffs
.....but but he is over paid
.....but but Rantanen is better
....but but he is responsible for all the leafs woes

Recommendation to the haters...
STFU and log off for awhile. Nobody gives a shit about your cringe analysis

i just wanted to shout out Marner for the streak and his overall great play this year. Even last night had he not scored that empty netter, he was the most dangerous Leaf player. He generates so many good scoring chances. could have easily had an assist and a goal earlier in the game. Keep it up Mitch and go and catch Lemieux and gretzky.

FYI i looked up the record and mats sundin is the next player after those two.

Atta boy, Mtch! One day you will actually be appreciated around here.
What makes you think he isn't appreciated, of course he's appreciated. Right now he's the toast of the town but should he underperform in the playoffs and we lose again, things will change again. That's completely understandable and that's just the way it is so may as well get used to it.

That was really cool, made my morning. Thanks for sharing! :)

I would enjoy all the individual accomplishments so much more if the team won a round or two every now and then but still, I was happy for Mitch last night. Hopefully he keeps it going for a while, breaking the record against TB would be cool! :)

Oh chill. Recommendation for you -if the haters bother you so much, then quote them when they post something you have an issue with. This rant of yours out of the blue is as cringe worthy as any of the criticism Marner's ever gotten.

Congrats Mitch. You're on a roll, you are much loved by your teammates, your dog, and the vast majority of hockey fans in this town. You are playing like a superstar, keep it up (but save some for the playoffs too).

GARY GARY GARY ,

Actually I think what ns67 said was pretty accurate. Old grey HF ain't what she used to be. Too many primates looking for likes in all the wrong places. Maybe another forum overhaul would work , a meritocracy of sorts. With tannings beds and candi.

Sorry I've been high. dkm

I'm setting my over/under on Marner's point streak at 27.5+/- .

I got the over and think 29-30 then it gets kaiboshed randomly. Have not checked the schedule but if someone can provide a break down of the next ten I'd like some feedback.

How far can Mitch money Marner take this hot hot heat3r , how many games?

I'm hoping he makes it to 30 games.

The way he plays it always seems a little shocking when he doesn't get at least a point.
Based on absolutely nothing, I think it ends in Tampa Saturday.

Great post, the back handed compliments and qualifiers, just stuff it. Come back in May, what’s the point of any of it then. We’re responding to what we have and history has him in the books. Did anyone say that about Sittler? Where’s the cup Darryl you bum! Get lost, it’s so transparent and intellectually boring too.

Exactly! If Mitch is going to leave behind a truly dominant legacy in the blue and white, he's gonna need some playoff success.

Always 2 sides of the spectrum

LOL wut? Sittler's teams were never contenders so nobody in their right minds was expecting them to come anywhere near the cup. They did win some playoff rounds though and they upset the heavily favored NYI team which is for me, probably among the top 2 playoff moments for this team over the last 50+ years.

Anyhow like I said to the guy you're quoting, if people post nonsense then it makes sense to quote them and put them in their place. As it is however, you're both yelling at clouds so why not just chill and save your energy for when you have something to complain about.

Like I said. Nobody cares about cringe analysis of Marner in a tribute thread. Get the hint.

The only cringe around here is you yelling at the clouds. Everyone seems to be pretty happy right about now, why not just SFTU and end enjoy the moment?

I'm not yelling. I am lecturing a scold and directing the clowns. Public service. You are just unaware that these antics of yours and others are seriously pissing people off.

Its funny to see the Marner fan club gate keepers and how personal they take the criticism Marner has taken at times.

The issues with Marner stem from his cap hit. Had he taken a team friendly deal like Marchand has, like Pasta has, Like Bergeron, like MacKinnon before he cashed in, things would sound a lot different from this fan base.

If a player is asking for 11 million a year I fully expect the fan base to be all over them when they are not playing like 11 million dollar players. He's 100% living up to his contract right now. But he needs to maintain this level to do that. If he disappears come the playoffs we'll all be right back here wondering why the f*** he's paid the way he is.

I don't need Marner to put up points in the playoffs. But I do expect to see this same gritty, going into the corners, defensive style of hockey he's been playing the last 6 weeks. If he can put up points, like he's doing now, thats just gravy.

You're not quoting anyone, just complaining and that's pretty much the definition of yelling at clouds. I've been happy with Marner's play for a very long time now (goes back almost a year), I even praised his play in the last playoffs (even though we lost), I argued with a guy just the other day who thinks we would need to add Sandin to Marner in a trade for Rantanen and I said several other nice things about him in recent days, so sorry if those "antics" have upset you.

Marner tied a record last night. It's not the most meaningful of records but still, it's pretty cool. And that vid of getting drenched by his teammates after the game was also very cool, and I haven't seen anyone post anything negative about him since then so ... I still think my suggestion of STFU and enjoy the moment is a good one.

Yeah it's probably best not to appreciate him for the next 5 months in case he has some playoff struggles.
Eeyores looking for doom and gloom at every turn.

"Right back" ?
Looks like the bus stops here daily.

I enjoy every successful moment of the team. Your condescending sophistry is something else. Why don't you add a few more qualifiers of why people should temper their happiness over Marners success while pretending you are wearing his Jersey? Better still, just come out and say you don't like him instead of being so needy you need to lie about your support to fit in.

None of them took "team friendly deals". They just weren't as good when they signed. The argument basically equates to being upset at Marner for being so good at such a young age and preventing us from drastically underpaying him.

So why don't you reserve your comments about gatekeepers for a time that Marner is actually playing poorly? Seems strange that you would set up a criteria for criticism, admit Marner doesnt meet that criteria and then criticize those who are actually defending the very principle you set up.

I'm as happy as anyone at the moment and if you think that I "don't like him", you're delusional. Seems like you're just dying to pick a fight with someone, why not just STFU and enjoy the moment like (almost) everyone else seems to be doing?

I‘m just glad to have not boxed myself into a corner so much that I can’t just enjoy the moments. The guy is probably going to be bronzed one day and people here act like he’s just figuring it out, it’s hilarious. Look, listen to the former players and coaches, they see what a rare, all around talent he, the ankle biters here are frankly clueless. It’s social media, we all jammer, but it isn’t serious and I find the Marner haters the most confirming of that view. Again, his number is likely raised and we still have these bored guys stuck in a dead end job who can’t even see what he is, it’s ignorant really.

Every guy on this team has something to prove, Marner isn’t different. Also true, he‘s perhaps the best player at his position in the game, literally 200 ft of impact, even strength, power play and penalty kill, the total package. I couldn’t be happier to be his fan boy, I’ve been it since he started and love watching him.

Is it really that difficult to understand that he's currently living up to his contract? Quick tip. The key word here is currently.

He was putting up points at the start of the season but he didn't look like his usual dominant self
The pick was bobbling on him and he and Matthews just couldn't get on the same page

Now he's just taking over games, the puck looks like it's glued to his stick and he's dominating at both ends of the ice and making his linemates better

It's great to see an elite player playing at an elite level
