Matthews may be our best player overall, but this season Marner is our best player.
Marner and Nylander have taken turns being our best player.
Matthews may be our best player overall, but this season Marner is our best player.
I don't get how it's overall when he only does one thing better than marnerMatthews may be our best player overall, but this season Marner is our best player.
Matthews has a higher career PPG and has 129 more career goals and plays centre. It's hard to say Marner is better overall, but definitely this season Marner has outperformed Matthews by a fair amount.I don't get how it's overall when he only does one thing better than marner
It's actually pathetic that they attempt to reach for the stars with some sideways criticism because Marner doesn't provide anything current to criticize. Not even an absent period.
We’re long past more about the messenger, it’s comical that isn’t computed. It's actually pathetic that they attempt to reach for the stars with some sideways criticism because Marner doesn't provide anything current to criticize. Not even an absent period.
They could just wait for an inevitable slump or legit point to gripe but there isn't much more to say in their world of hockey that satisfies the troll urge.
Bang on. Going in to this season, Matthews has been the better player by a good margin. Now he's having an off year though so Marner has been better, going forward who knows?Matthews has a higher career PPG and has 129 more career goals and plays centre. It's hard to say Marner is better overall, but definitely this season Marner has outperformed Matthews by a fair amount.
You're quoting this post from almost a week ago, seriously? Why don't you two get a room and yell at the clouds together? It's actually pathetic that they attempt to reach for the stars with some sideways criticism because Marner doesn't provide anything current to criticize. Not even an absent period.

I think this is over the top harsh. IMHO the only negative thing you could say about Marner is that on several occasions, he hasn't been as effective in the playoffs as he was during the regular season so there is some truth in there. That said, he was very good in last year's playoffs and I expect him to to be very good going forward. We'll see.You can cut off all your fingers and still have enough to count the amount of times Marner drove the net to an area where he'd need to take some pain in the playoffs.
Devils and Tampa just made big moves. Boston....literally flawless. Teams 1-10 can easily make Marner useless if he doesn't step up.
If this guy wants appreciation it's time to be a playoff star. Has been irrelevant in the post season for almost half a decade. Tampa would have bounced us in 5-6 games if it wasn't for nylander and Tavares.
He's a little boy when it becomes a men's league. Hands up if you're tired of the spin back to backhand pass, or the "I don't see that going in but it probably increases xGF nonetheless" playoff style that marner is the poster boy for.
Beyond the tedious nobodies….
What a list to be part of.
It’s funny how all these lists we now see Marner in, he’s surrounded by hall of famers. Perhaps it’s instructiveIf Gretzky had Marner, Ovi would definitely not be able to catch him

I said it last year...the Leafs need Nylander to be good to win. Now that he is playing like a bonafide franchise player, the buds have a big chance...provided their depth shows up. Dubas and Keefe for that matter, never had it easier.Marner vs Nylander, now Marner vs Matthews.....
How about we just luxuriate in the fact that the Leafs have 3 (arguably 4) of the most talented players in the league who can take over games, and enjoy the fact we have them all.
Marner is on another level this season - I love watching him play. I think we can actually thank Nylander in part for that, as his breakout with the visor change for migraines (anyone remember that?) has spurred Marner to his greatest performance yet. Marner is doing things I have never seen from a Leaf before, as do AM (when healthy) and WN.
Watching him has been a joy. I feel bad for those who are willing to overlook this because "muh playoffs". This level of play bodes very well for the playoffs.
They absolutely do need Willy to be good to win.I said it last year...the Leafs need Nylander to be good to win. Now that he is playing like a bonafide franchise player, the buds have a big chance...provided their depth shows up. Dubas and Keefe for that matter, never had it easier.
Six consecutive 1st round exits makes everything anyone does less enjoyable, and I know I'm not the only one. That has nothing to do with Marner, it applies to Matthews winning the Hart, the emergence of Nylander as an elite player, the fine play of Samsonov, everything. It's still fun to see skilled players make great plays, it's just a bit less joyful then it would be otherwise. Watching skilled players do their thing is nice, but the most joyful thing I've experienced as a Leaf fan over the last 50+ years is winning in the playoffs, nothing else comes even close. M&M could both get 150+ points and it still wouldn't compare to the team winning a couple of rounds.Watching him has been a joy. I feel bad for those who are willing to overlook this because "muh playoffs". This level and style of play bode very well for the playoffs.

I'm not sure that's fair - Gretzky had Kurri, who is #1 on the list.If Gretzky had Marner, Ovi would definitely not be able to catch him
Not his best game but certainly the best Leaf last night.
