He has been really good. I remember last season when all of a sudden started scoring goals with a sniper like shot that he seemed to have developed overnight almost, and then just kept sniping and sniping. I said then that after all these years when he hasn't produced in the playoffs, I can't celebrate until he does it in the playoffs but he didn't look like a player who was going to fade away again, and he didn't. It feels the same now except that he looks even better and I can't wait to see this version of Marner in the playoffs.

Haha, I see what you did there.

When I don't care about a post, I usually just scroll on by but you feel the need to quote me, and respond. Human nature is such an interesting thing, don't you think!
Its an appreciation thread, your all over the place, contradicting all the way.

What makes Marner more valuable than Rantanen?

1) Rantanen playoff stats blow Marners out of the water
2) Rantanen season point totals are comparable (Rantanen ppg is slightly higher since 2017)
3) Rantanen scores more goals than Marner
4)Rantanen is huge and occasionally hits opponents but size is obviously an advantage
5) Rantanen averages more goals per game
6) Rantanens cap hit is 1.8 less than Marner.

What makes Rantanen less valuable?
1st team all star selection. That fact that Marner has failed to garner a point in only a single game the whole season while in a slump. Better overall skill.
Why dont you go back to the main board and slam Marner there instead of pretending you are really a leaf fan.

I am enjoying it quite nicely right now on my huge TV. Not sure why you are calling me Chief. I'm not Native , a quarterback who sounds like Kermit the Frog and you don't know me like that. :)

You lost me with the Kermit stuff, sorry. Calling someone "chief" isn't something you should take offence at, and none was intended. I mean if you really want to feel offended, I guess you can always find reason to do so but there's really no reason to in this case. Might want to do some googling, or maybe start by reading this:

For the record, I think it's absolutely hilarious that you think my trade proposal is "dubious", and horrible for the Rangers and the same time, you think that offering Marner for Rantanen isn't enough and we'd need to add Sandin to the package. I mean if you don't value Marner as highly as I do, that's fine, we're all entitled to our own opinions here but I suspect you're in a small minority here and if you want to argue that Rantanen>>Sandin, a Marner appreciation thread probably isn't the appropriate place to do it.

And BTW, very hypocritical of you to act offended and then make this post:
Limp wristed reply. Try again.

If you're offended by talk about a Marner trade, not sure why you're quoting me and not the guy who not only asked for trade proposals in the first place, but thinks that Marner isn't enough to pry loose Rantanen, we'd have to add.

He's too low in production to be in those talks.
Seems accurate. I mean if you really want to be optimistic, you could say that if he keeps playing the way he is he could get into consideration eventually, but it would probably take at least a couple more months and if the voting started today, the number of votes he'd get is likely to be zero. Best to not speculate, just leave him alone, let him keep doing what he's doing and let the chips fall where they may. And who cares about the Hart anyway, at least I would hope that if Marner had the choice between the Hart and winning at least one playoff round, he would choose team success.

Marner's had his ups and downs, but it's almost impossible to not appreciate what he's doing for the team now. He's absolutely killing it and he needs to just keep his head down, his mouth shut and keep doing what he's born to do - play hockey. And if he does feel the need to open his mouth, keeping the conversation about his dog would be an excellent idea. :)

A fun little stat with no context or reason for posting other than it catching me off guard because it seems like a flukey day to check.

Career point totals:
Matthews: 483*
Marner: 483

So devoid of any talent for so long (except maybe Phil), it's truly incredible we have these guys to watch every game. Not even mentioning our other great players.

Marner was phenomenal last night against the Wings and has been our best player in most of our recent games.
Since moving to Tavares' line he has been shooting more and attacking the net which is what opens up the lanes for him to make his amazing passes.
It's great that both our top two lines have been productive, but I think Marner-Matthews will get reunited in the somewhat near future and go on one of their tears.

This fan base is so toxic at times.
Go to a Matthews appreciation thread and it’s all about how great he is
Go to a nylander appreciation thread it’s all about his elite skills
Go to a Tavares appreciation thread and it’s all about how good he is

Go to a marner appreciation thread it’s all about what we can get if we trade him

Marner is the best winger in hockey today
If your in a slump just play with marner for a few games and your slump is done. He is the only player on our team who makes other players better when he plays with them

Paul Statsny, Taylor Hall and Cory Perry all had longer season point streaks... Are they better than everyone without a streak? And do you mean the main board where majority have said the exact things I've said about Marner vs Rantanen?

Oops i didnt get the memo that as a Leaf fan i have to ignore logic and always like every Leaf player, no matter how they perform in the playoffs. Thanks for reminding me, ol fearless leader, i wont let it happen again.

M&M will probably be reunited at some point, agreed. I just hope for two things from Keefe:

1 - Keep Marner with Tavares at least as long as the team keeps winning and/or the point streak is alive. Once those things end, do what you like.
2 - In the playoffs, don't be afraid to change things up. There is no reason Marner can't play on different lines on different nights.

1. Fair, but lets not pretend like Rantanen's Avs were facing the likes of the Bruins and the Lightning in the first round.

2. Rantanen since he came into the NHL has been saddled with Mackinnon. Marner just played his first full season with Matthews last year and didn't get JT until his 3rd season. Marner has a career ppg higher than Rantanen but it's cute that you removed 9 games where he didn't score to make him look better.

3. And Matthews scores more goals than McDavid...so what

4. See point 3

5. You literally repeated your 3rd point lmfao

6. Matthews makes less than McDavid, it's for a reason.

Yeah once the squirrels turned it into a goalie discussion and trade thread I had to employ the selective reading tool.
Squirrels can sure be a pest.

Another great game from Mitch last night, easily the Leafs best player as he is almost every night.

You're wasting your time with him; when I saw you guys arguing with someone on my ban list, I figured it was Antropovsky. Guy has an obsession.

I agree… if things get stale or the team needs a spark we shouldn’t hesitate so long to make a change even if it’s temporary

Mitch is a polarizing figure on our team, and around the league for that matter. For whatever reason, people just seem to not like the guy. He's got a personality and a flair to his game that I can see being annoying to some. But my god, is this f***ing guy special.

Has Marner ever been on a line where it wasn't the best line on our team??? Seriously

Wherever he goes, his line mates benefit. He is truly a special special player. One thing I've really noticed lately is how active JT has become in transition as a result of Marner's ability to feed him the puck. Usually JT is very responsible and will never get too deep into the rush as he doesn't want to get caught too low on a transition play that can easily be turned back down the ice. But you can see him explode past the blue line when the puck is on Mitch's blade. He knows Mitch can get him the puck, and more importantly he knows Mitch is able to cover his defensive responsibility should there be a turnover on entry.

I love the magic Mitch and Auston have been able to provide us these past 2 years, but I honestly think having them separated is the right call. I was not in favor of that move a couple weeks back, but I think the proof is in the pudding. Jarnkrok - JT - Mitch looks great IMO, and you can slowly start to see some chem forming with Bunts - Auston - Willy. That JT line is very defensively responsible, and they can literally be put on the ice in any situation. Not even mentioning their ability to produce as well.

But back to the man of the hour, Mitch. What a talent, what a player. I really hope our boys can have some playoff success this season. I just don't want to see any shoot from the hip reactions like trading one of Mitch or Auston away if they fail once again. Hard to come by one special talent like that, let alone 2.
