Tribute Marner Appreciation Thread

Why does 9 more goals matter? Points were the same..in fact he had 84 points the years before with the islanders. So he increases his points with Marner by 4 whoop whoop! Tavares put up 84 points on a team that scores 264 and 88 on a team that scored 284... So his productivity actually worsened on Toronto.

Meanwhile Marners increased from 69 to 94 once he lines up with Tavares.
You don't see a difference of 9 more goals for Tavares in a season from 38 goals in 2015 to 47 goals in 2019? That's why they matter because we saw it happen when he was playing with Marner that whole season.

Yes, but point totals went unchanged. What's the relevance for goals changing, his points remained the same?

That isn't cherry picking. YOU made the statement that Marner was being carried. I proved that his scoring trend extended before JT showed up. It was the reason why Marner was asking for 8+ million b4 the season began. He knew JT wouldn't hurt him and it was quite likely he would hit high numbers.
You are attempting a sample size cherry pick by binning the observation earlier to make a pretty dumb point. Marner actually played on the 4th line before moving up to play with Kadri. His numbers were absolutely elite after the transition. Kadri killed it as well but let's just memory hole the moment to appease your stubbornness. Heck...why don't you average Marners 1st 2 years and compare them with his next 2 to prove he needed elite help. Anyone pointing out rookie years is just cherry picking I guess...
I got as far as the incorrect statement that I said Marner was being carried.

I said nothing like that, so there's clearly no point in reading further.

Tavares paced 91 points in 2014...which is higher than his 88 points with Marner. He also routinely paced near the 88 point pace while with the Islanders while having no star linemates. He had 35 points more than his closest teammate one year and paced that others. He paced 48 goals in 2012 with Matt Moulson and Brad Boyes as top teammates. Is it really that I impressive that he came to Toronto...while playing with a plethora of more skilled players and also provably getting more favorable matchups occasionally considering Matthews was on the other line? The leaf teams probably paced more goals than those Islander teams he played for.

He also had better playoff showing while playing for the Islanders.

If anything Tavares hasn't lived up to his potential here.

Not sure why people keep trying to act like Marner had this incredible effect on Tavares.
Agreed - it is certainly Marner (and Nylander) helping JT the last couple of years.

Since 2021, I'd say Tavares has been helped out by his linemates more than him putting either of Marner or Nylander on his back and making them better. Of course we have no idea what Tavares would be doing if he stayed on the Island and was managing a decline with other linemates on that team.

I know it wasn't by a lot, however last time I checked 88 points Tavares in 2019 with the Leafs was more than the 86 points he had with the Islanders in 2015. So, his best point total in a season did change, which is a fact you cannot deny.

He scored 12 more even strength goals with Marner, which is incredible. And we had a Matthews on the PP, otherwise he would have been the go to there, which he was his entire career with the Isles. His season with Mitch has no parallel.

As an aside, not only is it shameful this troll is allowed to abuse every Marner thread for years, the fact he’s also being fed now, it’s ridiculous.

I think it's fair to say that Marner has been the best play winger Tavares has played with in the NHL, so I'm including anyone who was on his line when he was with the Islanders.

12 more "even strength" goals is incredible? Interesting. So now your implying even strength goals matter? You called me a troll a couple days ago for pointing out that Marner has scored just 1 even strength goal in the past 27 games. You found that to be an irrelevant comment by a troll ...but 12 extra even strength goals is something incredible? And worthy for "you" to post.

I pointed out that Marner is 34th in the league in "even strength points". That was a "troll" comment too. Yet thr same posters are trying to say Tavares was much more productive with Marner than without Marner...because his even strength production was better.

Talk about a double standard! Great stuff.

Bahaha jeez this keeps getting better!
Is ES scoring supposed to be a giant problem of his or something?

He was 21st in the league in ES goals last year, ahead of guys like Aho and tied with guys like Stamkos. I don't see any point in getting upset over that stretch.

Marner is currently T-7th this season with 49 even strength points. Not sure where you see him ranking 34th in that category.

In both the OHL and the NHL Marner, has made this same assist while on a breakaway. So, at least one of his fancy passes has been able to work.

I don't get it.

He went alone on the goalie (opted for not trying to score :D), made a drop pass that could be intercepted by defensemen and we are calling it fancy assist / high IQ beauty?

If he scores on a breakaway, he stupid, but not even a shooting attempt and drop pass - Mitch the genius :D

It’s not just fair, it’s obvious.

Boring troll. Actually sorry , amusing troll, what winner is on her bashing Marner on Saturday nights at 4am. Bahahaha, you need to reaccess your “life” guy. Carry on. It’s all you have apparently, actually sad.

No explanation on why even strength goals matter for Tavares but doesnf matter for Marner? Can't explain your double standard? I figured as much.

Haha well the fact that you know nothing about time zones makes the rest of your posts make the quality of your other posts lot more sense... Additionally you have 24000 posts since becoming a member in 2017.. Which is double my posts and I've been a member for 10 more years than you. Your on a message board...accusing others I'm the same message board for having no life? Sounds like a good idea to me.

Why do you keep (and fail miserably) trying to make this personal?

It’s obviously personal for you, some weird way to get attention and fixation with Mitch? Ask a shrink? You just can’t accept you’re wrong? The best part, you can’t even see it. Lost.

Imagine someone on the Bill thread this year, undermining everything he does, how pathetic that would look given what he’s doing. Exactly.

Nhl.com has him where that poster suggested, although he did round down which is odd.

Your link is incorrect, check the math on his ESP, PPP and total points.
Mitch is in a four-way tie for 31st, but listed last because he has played more games.

Maybe lazy rather than rounded down.
