Projects though, all late picks but valid point.

Should we expect 1st-4th round guys to make it sooner? Are the odds of them contributing low if they don't make it in 4 years post draft?

Robertson is now going into the 3rd season after the draft, after next season if he hasn't made it, what do we think of him? Tweener? Bust?
Robertson is small, physically immature, had a very late birthday and has had some injury issues, plus Covid. Some unique circumstances

If he doesn’t make it this year OR next year, he might be into BUST territory, yes.

We all have to remember that prospects are on their own development time line, and it doesn’t need to align with fan expectations or desires. What will be, will be on its own time.

Robertson is pretty driven, I’d think he makes it at some point this year.

There is a very strong lack of understanding of how prospects progress by a large segment of this fanbase.

We were spoiled with Matthews, Marner and Nylander (all top 10 picks) jumping right in and it has flawed the way a lot of people think prospects should progress.

There is a very strong lack of understanding in how most things work around the team.

You probably need a higher quality internet for a lot of the streaming. I have an IPTV that streams all of the AHL games, and OHL games for that matter as part of the package. It works fine for me, but I have Bell Fibe.

$35 CND?

Agreed. I remember reading posts around here of posters writing off Troy Terry already and then look at the year he had last year. Doesn't happen to every prospect, but to write them off too soon is ridiculous.

Terry did come out of nowhere a bit. He wasn't a bust at any point, but he definitely didn't have 30+ goal, 60 point potential at any point either. We will see if he repeats that.

I've come to the simple realization that most fans just know absolutely nothing about most guys until they reach the NHL. We want to have these good young players and good depth, but don't want to give the good ones opportunities to play (often over guys who should not be anywhere near an NHL lineup anyways).

Yeah for sure

Wingers should transition faster.

D and goalies? Could be mid 20's before those bear fruit.

NHL executives are not infallible, and the CBA is not perfect, but things generally are the way they for a reason.

Example- waiver eligibility rules. In broad strokes (some exceptions- looking at you 25 year old single season ELC's from overseas), if a not elite player/prospect is still waiver eligible their not being in the NHL yet is not really a warning sign in and of itself.

Instead of point out flaws among posters, why don't you enlighten us with your understanding

Clearly you are so ahead of the game. You are at NHL level of posting, then there's me, beer leagures

I seem to remember several of our self-appointed prospect experts confidently dismissing Engvall and Marchment as prospects. Of course they'll have no memory of that.

The flipside of this is that most prospects should be dismissed by around 23/24 yo due to the nature of pro sports and the CBA. This can be hard thing to do when you're emotionally invested in a prospect. Even the rare late bloomers always seem to blossom in their 2nd or 3rd organization. It's probably more important to shop around for late bloomers on the open market than trying to wait out past the 3-4 minor pro years you invest in your own prospects.

good guy to bring back

Reminds me of an AHL Bunting. Just a complete rat. He is very engaged.

Robertson - Holmberg - Anderson
Steeves - Gaudette - Abruzzese
McMann - Douglas - Simmonds
Clifford - Blandisi - SDA
ex. Suthers - Abramov - Shaw
Ellis - Chyzowski - Gogolev

That's a really sharp forward group. Let's hope waivers are kind.

LW Nick Robertson – C Semyon Der-Arguchintsev – RW Pontus Holmberg
LW Alex Steeves – C Nick Abruzzese – RW Adam Gaudette
LW Bobby McMann – C Curtis Douglas – RW Max Ellis
LW Pavel Gogolev – C Mikhail Abramov – RW Logan Shaw
LW Kyle Clifford - C Graham Slaggert – RW Joseph Blandisi
RW Wayne Simmonds

LD Carl Dahlstrom – RD Victor Mete
LD Filip Kral – RD Jordie Benn
LD Mikko Kokkonen – RD Mac Hollowell
LD Matt Hellickson – RD William Villeneuve
RD Axel Rindell

G Joseph Woll – G Erik Kallgren
G Keith Petruzzelli

Not sure keeping Simmonds really makes sense unless someone higher in the lineup gets claimed on waivers. We may give him a chance elsewhere. I'd also expect Rindell to get into the lineup before Hellickson, with one of Benn or Mete moving to the LD when Dahlstrom, Kral, or Kokkonen need a day off.

Leafs still need to cut some cap, and we will need a new #7 if Holl or Sandin are not there.

---

LW Orrin Centazzo – C Brett Budgell - RW Zach O’Brien
LW Brandon Kruse – C Ryan Chyzowski – RW Zach Solow
LW Keenan Suthers – C Jack Badini – RW Ryan Johnstone
10th C Todd Skirving
C Nolan Walker

LD Marshall Rifai – RD Michael Joyaux
LD Noel Hoefenmayer – RD Tommy Miller
LD Matteo Pietroniro – RD Brennan Kapcheck
LD ??? – RD James Melindy

G Dryden McKay - G Luke Cavallin

I think Kasper Larsen fills the last spot on the Growlers, but we should be fine for depth at all positions throughout the organization otherwise.

I want Douglas to turn into a hidden gem sooooo bad. If we can get Mean Gauthier level defence that can hit, I'd be thrilled. It looks like he's got some hands and a nice shot for a bigger guy.

Really wish he can take that next level to his game.
Douglas has already produced better than Gauthier at the AHL level at the same age with limited usage. If he can play at NHL speed he should be a wicked 4th liner. This is my dream forward lineup in 2 yrs.

Amirov Matthews Nylander
Robertson Tavares Marner
Knies Minten Holmberg
Hirvonen Douglas Tverberg

I see a good balance of offense and 2 way play throughout that lineup and a bottom 6 that will be a pain in the ass to play against.

Adds to a log jam though. Would be interesting to see if there is a trade attached, or they don't expect a guy like Simmonds to clear waivers.
Well if it’s an AHL contract like it says vs a 2 way NHL contract, then he can’t be called up to Leafs anyway.

What's his skating like? Can he keep up ?

Just dress him for two games we play against Winnipeg

Grebyonkin is getting even less ice time than ovchinnikov was last year. Went from 8 minutes to 2 minutes to 53 seconds and now a healthy scratch.

Ovchinnikov is getting close to 10 minutes per game.

Even more surprising because of how good he looked in the pre-season.

Troy Terry didn't come out of nowhere. He popped as a big time WJC star for the US gold medal team around 2017 after being drafted but seemed a little delayed on his journey to the NHL and faded a bit.

Grebyonkin plays for same team as Yurov who was just drafted so they are two youngsters looking for ice time. Could be a bit of an issue. Yurov’s been getting more minutes while Grebyonkin has been getting less as the games go by. Just hope he gets some minutes this season and doesn’t end up as a long term healthy scratch. Send him to the VHL or something at least
