Maybe the scouting staff really did see something in Peksa after all. Let's hope he keeps this up and show it at the KHL level as well

You sometimes hear about how teams draft one guy on a junior team but fall in love with an obscure teammate cause they see something special in practice or games on repeat viewings. Hopefully there's some of that at play with Peksa.

A little like how the Leafs wound up with Salming bac in the day.

Probably the best Leafs defender I saw since Horton.

I'm surprised, I hadn't remembered Shack playing with Salming.

Really, really felt bad for Jim McKenny. Just like to say, "you were okay in my mind. Thanks for the memories"

That will ultimately be the defining factor. NHL goalies out of Russia were all multiple years into their KHL careers by now. Peksa (and Akhtyamov) haven't even started theirs yet.

It is a small consolation that they are at least doing well in the VHL, but if they can't beat out Miftakhov, Mosin, and each other for the KHL backup job in Kazan this year, then they still have a long way to go to be considered legitimate prospects. Or maybe they can convince a team with weak goaltending to give them a shot.

Salming was the best Leafs defenseman... period!

Curious case of Josh Hosang? What happened. I thought the Leafs were really interested and he seemed to do well. I never heard or read about any issues while with the Marlies. Did I miss something? They never gave him a chance.

He started off red hot and cooled off in the latter half of the season. He was never good enough to warrant a call-up.

Probably not good enough. To make the nhl level, hockey iq is extremely important. Ho-sang probably lacks it there. For a skilled guy, he’s never gotten a point per game in the ahl and i believe he got top 6 minutes as well. If you are mid 20s and can’t get a point per game, it’s pretty much over unless you play the f1 position or pk well or play very good defense.

Ho Sang is one of those guys who at first glimpse, looks incredibly impressive. His skating is elite, as is his puck handling. When he's skating around, doing his thing, it looks pretty impressive. But, it doesn't result in much happening in a positive manner in the offensive end, and he really isn't that great in the defensive zone. To be 25 years old, and sub PPG in the AHL, isn't really all that great. His results were mediocre in the Olympics, and it seems after the Olympics, he just disappeared. He didn't get a chance, as he never earned it, and there were numerous younger Marlies who had better results than him.

Aki Berg vehemently begs to differ on this point, but he forgives you......
how dare you forget the great martin skoula.

P.S. just saw his picture on wiki...is it me or does this look like a mugshot.

This is what I think Ovchinnikov, Akhtyamov, and Peksa should be hoping for if they are truly legitimate prospects who are getting blocked.

EDIT: Just so people are not worried, 'vk' is a social media platform in Russia. It has never given me problems with viruses, etc. in the past, in case people are worried about shady links.

What does it say... rough translation? Thanks

I don’t understand this, they want him around the leafs instead of playing?
I would imagine it is so they can monitor his health and design a training regimen around his issues until he is given a clean bill of health.
