I’m not a prospect expert but with all the injuries Robertson had to deal with I think he’s at least 2 years away.

Anirov could be good to go by the middle of next season.

Niemelia and Knies are at least 2 years away.

The rest I will leave to the experts lol

I think most of this list is pretty accurate. I could see Hirvonen playing 1 yr on the Marlies nextyear and possibly making a case the following year. Abruzzese might need 2 yrs on the Marlies with his delayed development.

Am I the only one who values Hirvonen so high? To me his likelihood of making the NHL is much higher than say SDA, Abramov, and Abbruzesse.

He's playing a man's game in a man's league. Ya he's undersized, but he looks like a complete prick to play against. To me he is a lower ceiling, higher floor prospect.

Kind of see him as a Victor Arvidson on the high end and an Andreas Johnsson on the lower end. But I do think he is made for the new NHL. Speedy, Tenacious, and skilled.

curious as to why people have him so low on their rankings

Definitely tenacious and skilled but I wouldn’t say he’s a great skater, that could hold him back. His stats in the Finnish league haven’t been anything special either.

What's the ETA on this list for the NHL:

On good authority:
  1. Robertson- spring
  2. Amirov- 2 seasons - 2023 spring call up from AHL
  3. Niemela - end of Muzzin contract
  4. Knies - 2 years
  5. Abbruzesse - never ECHL
  6. Abramov - never AHL
  7. Kokkonen - never AHL
  8. Holmberg - 2 years
  9. SDA - traded
  10. Anderson - traded
  11. Kral - next year
  12. Hirvonen - never AHL

To me, I don't think stats are everything. Yes they are a major indicator, but we also have no clue what opportunities he is getting with HIFK this year. Or at least I don't. I look at transferability of skillset. Something that I think Roni has plenty of. He battles in the hardest areas of the ice. In the corners and in and around the blue paint. Not all players are willing to do that. Sure that doesn't mean he is a lock for the NHL, but it vastly improves his range of outcomes. Wherein he could be used as a top 6 forward if he hit his ceiling, but also adaptable to a 4th line grinder.

Whereas for me, Abramov has a very shallow range of outcomes. I just don't see anything but top 6. If he cannot crack a role in the top 6, he will not play in the NHL IMO. Same with SDA, Ovchinikov, and Abrusezze. Although I will admit, I have only seen clips of Abrusezze and could be completely wrong on that assessment.

I look back at former leaf prospects like Bracco and see the lack of transferability to the NHL being the thing that trumped his actual abilities in the end. I think that is why I hold guys like Hirvonen and Kokennen higher on my lists, because to me they have high floors.

Lol at never for Kokkonen. He's one of the most defensively responsible defensive prospects ever who generates tons of possession.

My first reaction was anger seeing this. Then I realized that this is probably the most accurate list out of all. All fanbases waaaaaaaaaaaay overrate their prospect pool.

I would say Hirvonen is maybe 2 years away from first AHL/NHL. When he arrives I am pretty sure it will be winger mostly on defensive side. He is too small for the center position. He has good agility but lacks top speed to separate from opponents quick enough.
What hurts him some is his shot is not incredibly fast so he will have to go close to net. Closer the better.
He has good attitude and still work ahead but right now he is playing on a weak IFK and not making impact yet. I think he will be a third line winger with 30 point upside for now.

If I'm not mistaken, he is playing 3rd line now on a much better team than he was last year. Less opportunity.
