I'd class him as a wierd kind of NHL depth

+waiver exempt
+unknown quantity, might have more than tweener upside
-unknown quantity, might not hack it
From the preseason and his games with the Marlies, I'd put a good dollar on him cutting it as an NHL guy. I think he's got a 3C/3W upside with possible top 6 potential. He's just so smart out there and he makes the right plays, plays with effort and good pace. I think this is a guy that we're going to see in the NHL sooner than later. If he doesn't get a shot this year, I hope we lock him up and give him a chance to run with a spot next year because he's a hell of a player. From the current Marlies squad, both he and Steeves are on my radar to end up on the Leafs roster before the end of this year. Especially if we can unload a guy or 2 from the lineup (Kerfoot, Ritchie, Holl etc).

I don't think he is top 6 or even top 9 based on skill. He is extremely smart, plays hard, wins draws, great in his own end, and does a lot of little things to make himself effective, but he doesn't really have that high end skill you want out of a top 9 guy.

As a 4C and PK/Faceoff specialist, however, he has a lot of what you like in a very cheap package. He should have been in the NHL on Day 1, but good for him for having patience and working hard in the AHL.

I don't wish an injury on anyone, but would love to see him up in the NHL.

I know some of you on here are likely sick of my support posts for Dubas and his staff, but if this pick alone does not give people confidence in them as a management staff I don't know what will.

Who the hell trades for an additional 7th round selection in a draft where you already had 2 7th rounders. Someone on staff clearly had made this a hill they were willing to die on. Not necessarily giving that credit to KD, but the fact that he went out to acquire that pick shows how much faith he has in his staff. Hard to argue with it either TBH.

Tverberg looks like he could be a real steal if he keeps this up. Every clip I've ever seen of this kid is that he skates like the wind and body bags players. The fact that he is putting up pts now is a really good sign. I know he was a big pt guy in Jr.A Ontario, but like many posters on here have said, Hockey East is no easy conference. He's making a name for himself that's for sure.

He is living proof how every pick counts. Kid was the 5th last pick in the 2020 draft.

3rd in NCAA U20 scoring, 1 point back of Kent Johnson (5th overall pick by CBJ) in 1 fewer games played.

Niemela/Tverberg/Steeves have me feeling it again

I feel like our entire prospect pool right now is a collection of these bloom late picks.

Noel Hoefenmayer with 6 points in 6 games for the Growlers so far this year. Leads the team in points.
And Petruzzeli with a .970sv% (1GAA) through 3 games.

Both guys are likely too good for the ECHL but they're in a tough spot due to the log jam on D and in net. Ideally when Scott is healthy, i'd like to see Petruzzeli promoted to the Marlies and Scott get rehab time on the Growlers. Potentially could see a guy like Kellgren loaned out.

When is Scott back

its super early. And we need to sign him to an ELC but this is exactly what we need. We need a blue chip goaltending prospect. I wanted Lindberg who went to pit. But we need to develop a 1 goalie.

Under 25.

blue chip C. Matty
2 star wingers. Check.
Good checking/depth wingers. Hopefully some of Robby. Knies. Amirov Anderson. Googlev tveberg mark. If 2 hit that’s huge.
If steeves can be a top 9 C and kampf is a checking c

With rielly. Sandin. Lilly. Niemela. That’s a good start.

A No1 goalie puts us in great shape.

Don't sleep on Kokkonen Def.

I know it’s looking a little ahead but any nhl draft prospects people have their eye on, roughly where we are expected to finish? Do they look at goaltending for a pick?

I'm assuming we're picking in the 20's. At that range I would love one of Ty Nelson, Jonathan Lekkerimaki, Marco Kasper, or Filip Mesar. On the off-chance Lambert falls all the way down to that range he'd be my target. My favourite one of these guys though is Kasper. His skill level is outrageous and he is a speed demon. I think his upside would be hard to match at that range.

I do really like Kasper too. Wouldn’t be mad if lambert fell but that’s unlikely.

He raised eyebrows signing with the Marlies, as most anticipated an ELC. Hopefully he signs with the Leafs at some point. He's done extremely well in a very small sample size. Crazy to think the Leafs have a bit of a goalie backlog at the minor league level. I'm still pulling for Ian Scott. He deserves a chance to shine given all he's been through.

Our forward Dmitry Ovchinnikov has been called up to the Russian Olipy national team! He will go there right after tonight's match.

I'm guessing this is for the World Juniors, not sure what Olipy means though.

Well said. There’s definitely numbers in the goalie pipeline, but it’d be real nice if someone established themselves with good consistent play AND good health.
