Show your work.

Seriously, "as a whole" is a pretty wide reaching statement. Should be able to rhyme off more than half of our top 15-20 guys and show how they've disappointed relative to your expectations.

Edit: Will add my own.

From our pre season poll

1. Rasmus Sandin - 53.2% - Made the Leafs out of camp
2. Nick Robertson - 50.9% - injured, N/A
3. Timothy Liljegren - 56.9% - made the Leafs out of camp
4. Rodion Amirov - 90.6% - injured , N/A
5. Topi Niemela - 62.1% - shredding Liiga
So out of the top 5, 3 fantastic starts to the season, 2 injuries, no disappointments

6. Matthew Knies - 45.4% - strong start to freshman season
7. Roni Hirvonen - 61.1% - offensive stagnation (fair to call disappointing)
8. Mikhail Abramov - 47.5% - slow start to pro career (fair to call disappointing, but reactionary)
9. Mikko Kokkonen - 44.7% - steady eddie in Liiga
10. Veeti Miettinen - 49.4% - hasn't taken the step to dominance we hoped for (Fair to call)
this group has more of a case. No doubt we we were all hoping for more from Hirvonen/Abramov/Miettinen, but it's still early

11. Nick Abruzzese - 40.2% - killing it
12. Pontus Holmberg - 27.2% (tiebreaker - 57.1%) - not quite picking up where he left off, but well ahead of where he started last season, playoffs weren't a blip.
13. Dmitri Ovchinnikov - 27.2% (tiebreaker - 42.9%) - I'm not personally disappointed, disagreed with this placement and had low expectations
14. Semyon Der-Arguchintsev - 29.6% (tiebreaker - 53.8%) - not lighting the world on fire, but solid transition to pro NA play
15. Pavel Gogolev - 39.5% - big time slow start

For me, 1/4 disappointing, 1 that shouldn't have been there

16. Filip Kral - 57.6% - great camp, steady start with the Marlies, better than when he came over last season
17. Mike Koster - 48.8% - injured, but good start before hand
18. Alex Steeves - 17.2% (tiebreaker - 74.5%) - great rookie camp, fantastic start to season
19. Axel Rindell - 40.5% - can't comment, similar to Ovchinnikov for me
20. Artur Ahktyamov - 34% -disappointing

Again, maybe 1-2 out of five

21. Mac Hollowell - 23.1% - meh
22. Ty Voit - 26.5% - producing well and justifying the pick
23. Ian Scott - 33.3% - injured
24. William Villenueve - 39.4% (tiebreaker - 57.1%) - can't comment
25. Ryan Tverberg - 39.4% (tiebreaker - 42.9%) - killing it

This far down the list Hollowell/Scott/Villeneuve could be permanently healthy scratched and Voit and Tverberg would outweigh that.

Here are my thoughts on each prospect from our list:

1. Rasmus Sandin - I'd say he is graduated and probably shouldn't have been on the list in the first place, but great pick
2. Nick Robertson - injured, N/A
3. Timothy Liljegren - I'd also say Liljegren is graduated
4. Rodion Amirov - injured , N/A
5. Topi Niemela - I stated he was one of the few prospects exceeding expectations. Looks like a great pick.
6. Matthew Knies - He's producing about where we should expect. I love this pick.
7. Roni Hirvonen - Definitely disappointing, he should be producing more than he is.
8. Mikhail Abramov - disappointing start in the AHL
9. Mikko Kokkonen - this guy looked good in the AHL and has been OK in the Liiga since getting picked but isn't looking like an NHLer.
10. Veeti Miettinen - disappointing start
11. Nick Abruzzese - only played two games but is producing as expected.
12. Pontus Holmberg - fairly disappointing considering how he played in the playoffs last year
13. Dmitri Ovchinnikov - In a terrible situation and getting a few points in the KHL, I like this guy but hard to judge him right now with very limited ice time so that's not ideal.
14. Semyon Der-Arguchintsev - below expectations as always
15. Pavel Gogolev - not doing anything
16. Filip Kral - I like Kral but he's not setting the world on fire
17. Mike Koster - injured, small defenseman that I doubt ever makes it
18. Alex Steeves - as stated before, he is exceeding expectations
19. Axel Rindell - not producing offense which is all he is good for, disappointing
20. Artur Ahktyamov - -terrible year
21. Mac Hollowell - not really a prospect at this point
22. Ty Voit - - he's at expectations, small guy so he needs to produce
23. Ian Scott - injured, I don't even consider him a prospect at this point.
24. William Villenueve - disappointing start after getting a contract
25. Ryan Tverberg - as stated before, he is exceeding expectations

This has just been a bad start for our prospects overall. I'm just not seeing much improvement overall and their growth has been disappointing. Hopefully things improve as the season goes on.

Some of these picks your evaluating based on player type. We are talking about performance.
I will give you Liljegren and Sandin, but lets look at the others you mentioned aren't doing well.
Hirvonen- he's been fine. Not dissapointing. He is dominating play and his points are now picking up.
Abramov-fair
Kokkonen-his point's pace has actually increased so he's been fine.
Miettinen-fair
Abbruzzese-small sample size to judge
Holmberg-looks like your expectations were too high here. He wasn't going to produce PPG, but he has continued on the increased production from the previous seasons. He's been terrific.
SDA-fair but he's actually played pretty well.
Gogolev-fair
Kral-I don't understand this here. Not setting the world on fire doesn't mean he's been dissapointing. Infact he's been really good and one of the better d man on the Marlies. Marlies people are raving about him.
Koster-judging on player type. He was fantastic last year and was continuing this year before the injury. He's been fine

Fair on the rest.
So really I think your being too harsh. Calling guys like Kral, Koster and especially Holmberg dissappointing just isn't accurate

People are always overly optimistic on prospects, honestly if you remove Lily and Sandin from the prospect list there isn't a lot there.

Niemela - Having a great year, serving notice he's a legit prospect

I'm not high on either Amirov (doesn't push pace or do anything especially well) or Robertson (tiny, lack of hockey sense) to be impact players but there are things to like and some upside.

Knies has interesting tools
Steeves looks like he could be an NHLer in some capacity

Then a handful of guys who have shown a little something (Tveberg, Holmberg) and a few other's who could likely be role players soon (Kral and Rubins)

Miettinen is a good example of someone who got people excited but in reality probably is nothing. He's the same age as Caufield and has a similar profile, tiny, great shot, doesn't do much else. While Miettinen's rookie NCAA season was nice Caufield put up a goal per game at that level, and honestly I'm not sold on him being more than a Journeymen bad team scorer and PP specialist.

The thing is, that's not really a bad list. Unless you hit big or draft high/sell for picks and prospects the prospect pool for most teams is realistically something like that.

1 or 2 guys who can be impact players (Niemela, Robertson), a couple of potential middle of the lineup type of guys (Amirov, Steeves, Knies), a couple of wild cards who could make a big leap forward and surprise (Holmberg, Tverberg) and a few close but unexciting bottom of the lineup guys (Kral, Rubins).

I question how much of the negative evaluations were based on observation, vs simply tracking stats, which often don't tell the whole story. I assume the latter.

It seems most of you here just think prospects need to light each league on fire in their rookie seasons and so forth. Like there's so many prospects people have written off on HF based on point production or weak rookie/sophomore seasons and then boom, in their 3rd or 4th seasons they go on to develop well in the AHL or make their NHL debut and have solid careers so far. Patience everyone, jeez.

Is anyone else having issues with onhockey this whole year? Really forcing me to cut down on prospect/marlies games. Right now the only stream is the canlitr and it's just straight ads.

Anyone wanna pm me a solution/different site?

Same problem, haven't been able to watch any prospects. If you find a new one let me know.

Lol Tverberg with a beautiful pass into the slot his next shift and his linemate puts it right into the middle of the chest.

Tverberg scores a tap in after driving the net.

Between his skating and nose for the net, it makes no sense he fell to the 7th. Thank you Boston.
To be fair, the guy that boston drafted with that 7th is pretty good stats-wise (ty gallagher). What baffles me is that they drafted miller and fucso before tverberg. I saw high school highlights of miller and I was like, "really? That guy?" I kind of get the fusco pick but his development is going to be destroyed by harvard's depth on rhd unless he learns how to play the left side and he's old so I don't think he will transfer. Fusco also has more work to reach the nhl level even as he is older than tverberg.
