What are some examples of major draft fallers panning out?
I'm not sure he was a "faller" per say, but I vaguely recall Barzal dropping down to the middle of the draft because of perceived attitude issues I think. Bobby Mack had him at 9 in his final rankings, and he ended up going 16. So not overly far, but if I recall correctly he was ranked within the top 5 at the start of the year

DeBrincat . Im pretty sure he was ranked top 15-20 by most.

I was pulling out my hair when he fell out of the first round. I don't think I'll ever forgive Hunter for picking Korshkov instead.

I don't know if it was a major fall but I remember Fowler expecting to go top 2-3 and slipped to Anaheim at I think 11 or 12?

Kaliyev, Debrincat, Fowler, but also Chychrun, Liljegren, Kylington (serviceable), Konecny (minor fall), etc.

I think he also had a major injury in his draft year as well if I'm not mistaken

I went to sleep the night before Round 2 thinking we get Debrincat or Carter Hart.

Just think. If Dubas were in charge at that point, Debrincat would have definitely been his pick. Undersized, skilled, OHL. Chew on that Dubie haters.

ok people need to stop bringing up the the hunter drafts ...
i already spent too much money on therapy trying to forgot how garbage he was at his job lol

......... and yet some people wanted him to be GM .........

Me too. I was convinced we were picking Debrincat at 31. It was too f***ing logical.

I remember having the draft on TV but for some reason the pick was made before the broadcast started. I remember looking at twitter on my phone thinking who the f*** is Yegor Korshkov.

God damnit.

There's been a few fallers that have worked out. The one that really stands out to me was Chychrun.

Was suppose to challenge for #1, hype was huge when he was coming into the OHL. I remember everyone souring on him so fast in his draft season, it seemed like it all got to him and he was playing nervous. I remember him getting roasted by analysts in the Top Prospects game which is so silly cause it's one game. He was one of the best skaters I've seen live, he's athletically just a beast. Arizona did so well getting creative to get the pick to choose him and now he's looking like a legit #1 d-man.

on the flip side, there are also the kids who fall, and fall for good reason. Angelo Espisito is the first one that comes to mind when I think of that scenario.

that said, the discussion was raised on the assumption of a Brad Lambert potential falling in the draft rankings correct?

I 100% would take the chance on this kid. He is an elite talent IMO. Skates like the wind, and has buttery smooth hands. Can't teach that level of skill. I don't know where this kid is projected now, but he has a top 3 skillset. If he falls outside of the top 10, it will be a steal. I'd be more than happy moving our first and a package of other pick(s)/prospect(s) to move into a position to select him.

My first time watching him was last years World Juniors where he played as a just turned 17 year old. My impressions of him was that he is a special talent. Elite.

Now I will fully admit I have not followed him in depth since, but when he played against his peers, even though his peers were still older than him, he was absolutely electric. I think people forget that he is still only 17 years old and playing in a mens league. I am not concerned 1 bit at his lack of Pt production.

but maybe that just me.

And Hunter had a whole night to sleep on it as we had first pick 2nd round day 2.

Adds another log to the fire for PICK BEST AVAILABLE always

Going into the "I am old" machine.

Dino Ciccarelli was an awesome goal scorer in junior and went undrafted because of a broken leg. 600+ goals later.

Doug Gilmour after a 177 point season in junior fell to the 7th round

Bobby Clarke for no reason other than he was a diabetic fell to the Flyers in the 2nd round.

Currently our prospect pool is full of guys who should impact The NHL in a way this team desperately needs...

Tough two way forwards: Knies, Tverberg, Steeves, Hirvonen, Holmberg, Anderson
Solid two way dmen: Kokkonen, Kral, Rubins
Potential 3Cs: Abruzzese, Abramov, SDA
Offense oriented wingers: Amirov, Robertson, Miettinen, Ovchinnikov, Gogolev
Impact RD: Topi Niemela

we have a really good mix of everything but goalies (however I believe Petruzzeli is the solution there)

Early season over reaction and thus top ten prospects:

my current prospect rankings are probably something like

  1. Topi
  2. Amirov
  3. Robertson
  4. Knies
  5. Abbruzzeze
  6. Kokkonen
  7. Hirvonen
  8. Holmberg
  9. Abramov
  10. Miettinen
HMs: Steeves/Kral/Tverberg

It's interesting to do this without Sandin and Liljegren finally. My top 15 right now:
  1. Amirov
  2. Robertson
  3. Niemela
  4. Knies
  5. Kokkonen
  6. Abruzzese
  7. Hirvonen
  8. SDA
  9. Holmberg
  10. Tverberg
  11. Steeves
  12. Abramov
  13. Hollowell
  14. Kral
  15. Akhtiamov
HM: Miettinen, Rubins

My risers over the last year: Knies, Tverberg, Steeves, Abruzzese, Kokkonen
My fallers: SDA, Abramov, Hollowell, Miettinen

I just don't see the upside to Miettinen at the pro level. I like him though. Make or break AHL season for Kral and Hollowell, they both need to show another gear in their production and play.

I could see Rubins rising a lot this season in the rankings... the definition of a late bloomer player. I wouldn't be surprised if he was called up first.

Rubins is such an interesting prospect. He's fairly old 24 already, but everytime you watch him it's hard not to be impressed. Just very consistent defensively. Moves the puck efficiently and has good mobility.

I only watched a couple periods so far this year. But, I came away most impressed by him. Probably not a high ceiling. But, I think he looks like a potential NHL player, kind of out of nowhere.
