Abruzzese picking up where he left off a year and a half ago I see. Hopefully he can keep it up and turn pro at the end of this year. Big fan but his later age entering college and time missed is scary for development. The more he looks like this the less worried I am
He was name dropped over the summer (or the deadline?) so it sounds like the FO are big fans. Makes sense, smart kid.
Will be curious to hear more about his skating and strength and resilience/compete. Lots of talent.

Scored his first goal on Friday, added an assist yesterday. 2 points in 4 games.
I'm happy to hear. I really liked this guy in the pre-season. His work at the point on the powerplay really stood out to me. I wonder if he can step in as #7 if we make a trade or have an injury.

That rule is Re-Entry waivers. That was abolished in 2013.

Ho-Sang would not need waivers to play in the NHL after signing an SPC. He would need waivers to go back down to the Marlies though, and since he should have a very lengthy stint with the Marlies before getting another sniff at the NHL, I highly doubt we sign him to an SPC any time soon. That is especially the case when we have plenty of quality alternatives on the Marlies who do not require as many hoops and have played just as well, if not better, than Ho-Sang so far anyways (Seney, Anderson, and Semyonov most notably).

I'm not referring to re-entry waivers. That was when a player who was previously waived to the AHL but under contract gets recalled they had to pass through re-entry waivers to be recalled before it got removed with the 2013 CBA. The ROR situation was post the new CBA after re-entry waivers was removed. The lockout was part of the reason he was in Russia past the NHL start to begin with.

If you signed someone today out of the KHL who's not your prospect you'd have to put them on waivers before they could play for you.

I finally found the rule from the CBA however(13.23) and it only applies to players outside North America, and thus wouldn't apply to Ho-Sang coming from the AHL

13.23 In the event a professional or former professional Player plays in a league outside North America after the start of the NHL Regular Season, other than on Loan from his Club, he may thereafter play in the NHL during that Playing Season (including Playoffs) only if he has first either cleared or been obtained via Waivers. For the balance of the Playing Season, any such Player who has been obtained via Waivers may be Traded or Loaned only after again clearing Waivers or through Waiver claim. This section shall not apply to a Player on the Reserve List or Restricted Free Agent List of an NHL Club with whom the Player is signing an NHL SPC or is party to an existing SPC with such NHL Club.

What a debut by Steeves. I like that we have a couple guys in the minors now ready to come up and help our depth situation Steeves, Ho Sang, Semeyonov

Its nice that we have a few guys in Knies, Tverberg and Steeves that are tracking well to be good support players that play a power game.

I think Steeves might make the Leafs next year
Yes, they’re exactly the types this team will need. Those are three guys who can occupy 50% of our bottom six slots within 3 years and play a great role doing it

Did anyone catch what happened with the 5 on 5 line brawl at the end of the game on the 27th for the Marlies? That doesn't happen often. Any video out there from that game other than the Seney fight?

Steeves might even be a Hyman replacement in the top 6. Looks to have a better scoring touch and can motor. Let's hope he keeps it up. Knies looks to have good hands and hard shot as well. looks like he might be able to play up and down the lineup if he progresses well

We need to hire Pronger so he can spend an off-season shooting pucks at Knies like he did with JVR, if he adds an elite deflection game to his kit I could see him flirting with 60 points in a couple years.

That or enroll him in the Chris Kreider school for accidentally-on-purpose falling onto the other teams goalie at top speed.

Pezzetta beat on Seney and then a few shifts later Menell low bridged Pezzetta.

Led to a line brawl with Clune, Gabriel, Douglas on the ice. Douglas went to town on Fairbrother.

clune got a suspension for instigating in the last 5 minutes for this brawl and i have no idea how the refs came to that conclusion from this video lmao beaudin was the one who started the whole thing

Slightly out of the frame, I think he went after Pezzetta. But yes, Beaudin went after Menell while Pezzetta was skating away.

You have to hope that petruzelli hits.

we need.
Niemala/steeves/Robertson/knies/amirov to become something

If 2/5 do we're laughing. We don't have room for our NHL ready guys already even with a couple injuries and a waiver claim, and we have lower ceiling but NHL ready guys like Semyonov/Ho-Sang/Anderson/Menell waiting on top of that. Plus whatever the next draft and crop of Euro FAs turns up.

And that's assuming no prospects from the next tier down surprise us and have a huge off-season. I wouldn't be shocked if one of SDA, Ovchinnkov, or the NCAA guys ends up playing meaningful minutes for us in a year or two.
