Hows the kid doing we got for Kapanen? I forget his name

His PPG isn't anything special, and a lot of it can be blamed on both his SH% and oiSH% being well below average for the league (and lower than his numbers even last year), and the fact he doesn't get PP1 minutes. He's a guy that does very good things for his team, with consistent smart touches, being the first man back defensively, high-effort level, and being his playoff team's best play driver. I'm a big fan, but I might be higher on him than anyone else on this website.

One criticism of tverberg’s game: While he does spring on breakaways, he tends to slow down when he receives the puck, which leads to his breakaways getting broken up.

Tverberg scored his first of the year last night and first NCAA goal with UCONN.

2 points in 2 games.

Very very impressive. If he can even come close to that pace the rest of the year playing in one of the best divisions on a non-powerhouse team he's gonna jump up the prospect lists in my book.

Sandin-Dermott would be a solid bottom pairing too, as long as we get a really good 7th and 8th defenseman.
Honestly was hoping to see this kind of set up by the end of this year but with Holl and Lehtonen in the mix and depth like Bogosian in a year where we'll probably need the depth I don't mind it.

But yes going into 2021/22 an ideal d-core for me would be:
Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Liljegren (shutdown pair)
Sandin-Dermott

Maybe add a couple Bogosian-like meatheads for depth with guys like Kivihalme/Kral/Hollowell with the Marlies.

Riley Woods signs with Utah in the ECHL. Tanner McMaster signed with Lehigh Valley of the AHL.

Any updates on Artur Akhtyamov? He played in the VHL on the weekend (first game in a long time) but both his VHL and KHL teams played today and it doesn't appear he dressed.

William Villeneuve seems to be off to a disappointing start: 6pts/15GP is a drop in pace from last year 58p/64GP.

Seems like Saint Johns has taken a step back in general.I haven't watched them this year so I can't really say much.

I would be very interested in his teammate Joshua Roy, though. 2021 draftee, 17pts/15GP, C, 6' 190lbs. I remember him looking good in U17 last year.

Looks like Jesper Wallstedt is having a strong start in the SHL - 1.83gaa and 0.926sv% in 14GP. Unfortunately, he won't fall to us but I really wish we had a goalie prospect of that calibre.

Villeneuve is playing with Poirier right now. There are major complaints from their fans that the pairing is absolutely ass defensively and that neither should be playing top pairing minutes.

From what I have seen from highlights and such, it looks like Villeneuve is not perfect defensively, but he's having to cover for Poirier a lot... Who effectively acts like a 4th forward. As we have seen with Zaitsev when he had to babysit Gardiner, that is not an easy task and completely saps your offensive production.

Roy has major consistency issues, both with play and especially effort. I guess that reminds me of how people describe Nylander a lot of the time. Sometimes he works hard and can make amazing, high IQ plays, and other times he takes the lazy route.

Saint John needs to add some better defensive players. They are still young, and are extremely talented offensively, but they lack defensively capable players all over their lineup. My one hope is that Saint John adds an OA defenseman this year so that Villeneuve can have a proper, defensively-capable partner on the top pairing and Poirier is stapled to the 2nd or 3rd pairing in a purely offensive role, which is all he can handle right now. We'd likely see Villeneuve's offense go up from there as well.

i can't remember where or when i read it, but i do remember reading that villeneuve was going into this season with the mindset of sacrificing offence to focus on his defence, so it makes sense that the production has decreased. i can't comment on how that's going, but that's all i know lol.

I think that was in an Athletic article

I remember reading it too, he wanted to spend the season rounding out his game so he's better prepared for the NHL a la Liljegren

Honestly, I think his offense will pop out more on smaller ice as well

As long as he can pass the puck, win puck battles and get to the high danger areas there's an opportunity for him even if he's only scoring at a .5 ppg clip

Hell, that could get him in the top 6
