Wild former leaf pick nugget.
Dakota Joshua. Leafs 5th rounder from 2014 just scored his first nhl goal in his first game for the blues.
Just saw that too. Looked his stats up from his pro years so far and doesn’t even look like he deserved a call up yet has scored. Good for him but so interesting to see which guys with which traits can make the teansition to the NHL

Is Axel Rindell really good or his numbers are inflated?

His numbers with Jukurit Mikeeli looks good

He's an offensive defenseman who is putting up offense.

He is not very good defensively.

Treat him like Duszak, who has 5 points in 8 games right now with the Marlies. Although Duszak's defensive game has made some nice strides. The main hope for Rindell is that when he comes over to the Marlies at 22, he can quickly develop his defensive game and immediately step into a top 4 role along with Kokkonen.

EDIT: With the Marlies, not the Leafs.

He's really not that bad of an NHL defenseman either, if you like pure defensive guys who don't hit. Obviously people don't like that much.

I stand by my Rubins comparison. I think Rubins is a little bit more aggressive offensively, but he likely plays similar to Marincin if he hits the NHL.
I could see that. Rubins moves the puck more efficiently and uses his body better defensively (two big hits earlier tonight), which are areas that limit Marincin.

Rubins' skating and first pass could make him a great stay at home partner for a guy like Liljegren potentially down the road. He definitely looks more confident coming off of his stint in Denmark. Quietly impressive again tonight.

How is Brazeau playing?

I’m still pulling for this guy to continue to develop.

Not great. Only has one point (a goal) in 9 games and he has not looked overly comfortable in many games. Not necessarily terrible, but just a guy who looks over his head right now in the top 6 and should probably be on a 4th line at best. The other AHL contract guys are not jumping off the page or look as good as our NHL prospects, but they at least look like they belong in a regular bottom 6 AHL role on a competitive team. Brazeau does not right now.

Probably the largest disappointment up front, but Hollowell has been the largest disappointment overall by far. Leafs should consider moving him at the TDL if teams want him.

Good for Joshua. That 2014 draft was the last of Burke/Nonis stink drafts with the same formula.

Draft a stud top 10 (though I do wonder if Willy was a Shanahan pick and if Nonis would have preferred Ritchie).

Standard no second rounder.

Draft a stay at home dman in the 3rd over Brayden Point.

Use mid to late picks on college-bound players with little skill who rarely amount to anything.

Bergman special in Engvall in the 7th.

Literally the same formula 7 years that did not work from rounds 2 to 6. Though I'm sure people are ready to say "Well all Doobler does is draft smurfs herderp."

Joshua's 2016-2017 season had me interested in the potential of becoming a useful 4th line centre. After that his numbers fell off. Nice to see he made it.

But players like Piccinich, Nolan Vesey, Kenny Ryan. Such low floor picks. They get to pro hockey and you can see why they don't have a shot.

This post has me triggered.

Thank God we escaped from this non-sense.

As for the Marlies:

What's up with Nick's 12 PIM in 9GP?

He looked really immature the last few games, however last night he looked like he smartened up
Ya I'd echo this. Those 12PIM's were largely ugly as well. Completely avoidable in most cases. Who knows what type of abuse he is hearing being a high profile player in the AHL, but he really needs to be better in that regard. God I just wish he could continue playing there this year, It would be absolutely perfect for his development.

Hated that Marchment for Malgin deal. Malgin doesn’t bring anything if he isn’t scoring. Marchment brings more and points.

Marchment brings size and that is pretty much it. He is not even overly physical, even though he will drop the gloves when needed. He is not talented offensively, he is not great in his own end, and he is not really an exceptional worker like Hyman either. He is just vanilla at everything in a 6'3" body.

Malgin at least works his ass off and brings offense. His defensive game is mediocre and he is not a large body, but Malgin will almost certainly go a lot further if we give him the chance.

Disagree big time. He has a higher ppg with the leafs and the panthers the last two seasons. Panthers fans seem to quite enjoy his work ethic and ability to play the body. I have played against Marchment In Rep hockey and saw first hand how hard he works. Has good hands and a wicked wrister.
