Already interested in Livingston and really hoping that Dubas was following Jaxon Nelson while watching Minnesota play last week.

6'4 220lb Centre who can finish would be an amazing add to our C pipeline depth. Having Knies and Koster as teammates hopefully contributes to him being on the Leafs radar and the Leafs on his radar.

With the draft capital traded recently, I would expect the Leafs to be even more active than they usually are in trying to source talent through the NCAA and Euro leagues. They definitely have an eye for it and invested well, as this thread clearly demonstrates..... :thumbu:

I would be so pumped to see Niemala and Hirvonen on the Marlies.

Besides keeping Knies, keeping Niemala was another priority.
Leafs might appeal to Livingstone with mainlyTimmins ahead of him.
Unsigned C prospects maybe maybe not…..a lot of the C’s might end up on the wings, maybe but there’s a bunch of guys.
Nelson does have 2/3rd *foot* height advantage on most of em tho, and most are distributors.

Haven't notice ... shhh I'm working ... what NCAA free agents are available that aren't in the playoffs?
Tough to guage with some seniors still willing to take fifth year.

Hockey East tournament doesn't start until next week.

Having our AHL team in the same city as our NHL city I think is super appealing for undrafted UFAs who know they'll likely spend time in the minors.

No need to worry about making arrangements for your apartment or whatever if you get called up or sent down. You get to use the same facilities as and interact with the NHL staff/squad to a certain extent.

No clue of we'll get one of the top guys this year, but we generally seem to be in the conversation and every few years seem to get a pretty highly sought after player.

No contract spots this year, so unlikely we do.

Livingstone, at the very least, probably wants a year burned off of his ELC. We can't give that. Same with most other top guys from the NCAA.

However, there are not that many "top" guys in the NCAA market this year anyways, and the second-tier guys are probably fine with a future ELC... And we can be in the market for the much deeper top-end Euro pool.

Ryan O'Connell picks up a 2nd assist (his 3 point of the year) as Michigan Tech gets by St. Thomas into the CCHA semi-finals. Proud of my boy *tearing up emoji*

Splitting Abruzzese's stats in half:
1st 28 GP: 8 G 9 A 17 PTS (50 in 82 pace)
2nd 28 GP: 7 G 17 A 24 PTS (70 in 82 pace)

Random question: what's Niemela's game like? I've long assumed he's Sandin-like, but that's purely lazily associating sort of undersized Scandi defencemen. How's his skating?

Niemela when drafted was known for his defensive IQ and good transitions and zone exits (like Brodie). Since then he has shown a great offensive game as well. He broke the record for U20 scoring for a D man in Liiga. He has shown that he can qb a power play and has an insane ability to score goals through traffic with his wrist shot.

He is a much better skater than Sandin. Really good 4 way mobility and acceleration. He's got good overall speed that I think will get better as he adds muscle and power to his stride. He's got a very sleight build.

Well, it certainly doesn't look like there will be any mystery on what the Knies contract will look like.....

When using the roster builder, it shows us having just over 928k, but on the main page cap space, it shows 850k.
The difference seems to be 78k being attributed to Dahlstrom, but he's been injured all year.
Does anybody know why we get a 78k charge on the cap from Dahlstrom?

This is how cap friendly lays it out. Clear as mud. lol

What is the season opening injured reserve (SOIR)?

If a player who is on a two-way contract becomes disabled during training-camp or who reports to training-camp disabled as the result of a hockey related injury incurred during the off-season, they can be placed on season-opening injured reserve, to possibly obtain cap relief. It is notable that the SOIR equations are not the same as the daily rate equations in CBA 15.6, which is instead used to calculate the players daily salary (as opposed to cap hit).

Discounted Cap Hit

Players on a two-way contract, who accrued 1-49 NHL games in the previous season, count against the teams cap hit; however, the reduced cap hit is calculated as follows:

Multiply the players NHL cap hit by the total accrued NHL days in the previous season, and divide by the total number of days in the previous season.

What an odd rule. Why would you get cap charges for off-season injures, but full relief for in-season injuries?

How did Sahorna look like last night for anyone who watched the game last night.

Are you describing Rielly's replacement?

When can he start?

Havent seen any updates on Minten recently but he is currently at the same point total he had last year, in 19 less games. Still only on pace for 78 pts but as far as I know, he gets secondary usage. Hoping to see a big breakout from him next year when Stankoven isn't blocking him.

Does it matter if he's 220 lbs. and plays like he's 180?
I guess not, that may be a plus if a 220 lb player could play the game looking like 180, but I was talking about Topi who is no more than 170 soaking wet, so I think he needs some mass otherwise he’ll struggle below the goal line and in front of his net. He can’t really be his “replacement” as he’s a RHD and doesn’t play the same kind of game as Mo. But he has shown he’s competent and skilled enough to QB a PP against pro men so in that sense he could replace Rielly. Honestly anyone who can get 1/5 shots through from the point should replace Rielly. Not asking for much!!
